I FRRRRRICKIN FINALLY finished on this piece that I've been procrastinating on for like two months now. I like how it turned out though, the Cloak Squad doing their signature sprints (except for Hornet cause she's too cool for that).
These are pulled from some of my favorite indie games, so I guess I have a type when it comes to game protagonists.
Cool/Cute Cloaked Characters Club. Call that the CCCCC.
Doodled a quick Dogday in class cause I felt like it. I never post anything but I like how it turned out so here.
Silksong Theory: "Styx" is a Nosk in Disguise
1. Styx isn't "Styx"
You learn this if you jump up to the place Styx always retreats to in act 3. There, we find a great number of masks, including the one worn by "Styx." Play the Needolin and we see a memory of a headless "Styx" thinking the following: "Who To be? Who is me? The one who serves? The one who breeds? The one to fear? My strength or theirs?"
Note that this recollection doesn't use Styx's voice. Clearly the real Styx is long dead, and the thing "serving" us is something using his voice and face.
2. Skynx isn't "Skynx"
"Skynx? Who's Skynx?" You ask. Well, it's who you find if you visit Styx on Steel Soul mode. Here, Styx's nest has been destroyed, and his notably headless body lies dead. Yet destroy a hidden wall and you'll find "Skynx," a creature wearing Styx's mask upside down:
Even creepier, before we see "Skynx" we get this exchange between them and Hornet:
Hornet: "I can sense you there, hidden in the darkness. Show yourself."
???: "I can sense you. Hidden."
The creature is repeating Hornet's words back to her. Then, when it equips its mask and shows itself, it begins using Styx's voice, but with the words jumbled to create new meaning: "The morselsssss. Give them. Take." This happens every time you visit. The creature will first mimic whatever Hornet says, then appears with Styx's face and starts using Styx's words. Frighten it, and it mimics the roar of another enemy to try and scare you asay. Play music for it, and it sings using a mix of other creature's sounds. So it's a mimic with an upside-down face and two black mantis-like arms. Clearly a Nosk, right? Just one uninfected by the Radiance.
3. Skynx is Styx
Yes we see Not-Styx's headless body before meeting Skynx, but remember: Nosks don't just steal faces, they also hide in and pilot stolen bodies. Why would Team Cherry reveal Styx as a face-stealer to then replace that face-stealer with a second-face stealer that stole the first face-stealer's already-stolen face? That's just needlessly convoluted. What makes more sense is that in Steel Soul, Styx's nest was attacked and destroyed before Hornet could show up to save it. So "Styx" was forced to abandoned the body it was piloting and flee into the secret room we find.
With its nest and hoard of silk-eaters destroyed, Styx/Skynx offers to pay hornet to find fresh silk-eaters, so that it can weave a new nest from their silk.
So Who Was The Original Styx?
Probably Huntress's mate. Besides sharing the same body and mask shape, Styx's (stolen) dialogue is focused entirely around finding food for a "mistress." Presumably it was Styx's job to find food for Huntress (and the hatchlings) while she guarded the eggs, and since Styx never returned from his hunt, Huntress is forced to ask Hornet for help when they meet.
Never trusted the little freak tbh so it's very nice for it all to be laid out like this.
Hey so, spoilers ahead, but did anyone else realize that both Hollow Knight games are named after the thing that's used to contain the main big bad behind the suffering of the kingdom? And then ultimately failed long-term? Case in point:
The Hollow Knight is used to lock up the Radiance when she starts stirrirng shit up, but oops, turns out it had love for its dad so the Radiance is up to her old bullshit again.
The Song of Silk that the Weavers made up to keep Grand Mother Silk docile in her cocoon which failed when, oops, the unsustainable structure of the Citadel led to all the bugs there dying and releasing Silk's influence who proceeded to capture and genocide (almost) all the Weavers as revenge.

My two special boys (gender neutral), whom I cannot draw
I love how Hornet does care about Sherma and Sentinel...even just a little...!!
If you like unnecessarily long video essays about overanalyzing media, boy do I have a video for you!
I had a lot to say about the past two chapters okay?
SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF ISAT! Kinda. So simply scroll past if you don't wanna know!
Okay, with that out of the way: Siffrin Plushie has arrived! And as per Siffrin Law, they must be subjected to shenanigans. Sorry, I don't make the rules.
I love them
Fun fact!
Bonnie's half of this dialogue only triggers if Odile snatches the vial on the desk before you go to the drawer. If you go to the drawer first Bonnie won't say anything, but Odile will still say her Yoink bit, meaning it's not just something Bonnie picked up from our dear Researcher over time.
They're actively mimicking her in real time, which I find incredibly sweet.
Mirabelle ISAT is, on top of being an extremely cute and kickass heroine, is also the best aroace representation I've seen in any media ever. She's compassionate, affectionate, emotional, and not the usual "cold, unfeeling" type of character who usually gets the asexual tag by the writers. Her friend quest was such a touching surprise when I first got to it, it's now forever ingrained in my brain.
With that ramble over, since it's Asexual Awareness Day, I wanted to draw her! Siffrin No Last Name is also really good ace rep of the romance variety, but I gotta leave something for next year as well, hehe.
Oh also have the aromantic version too because she's a double-A icon. Okay, have fun being perceived for a few more hours, fellow Aces!

Choco Werehound Brute is the prettiest princess ever, and I will hear no objections. I love this particular voiceline of his, and it works extra well with his new costume. We love a confident crossdresser king here, what an icon.
Okay WHAT THE HELL
I've been watching a different playthrough of ISAT I haven't seen before while doodling, and they got to the point where Loop gives you the 'Zoning out tutorial' and
WHAT THE HELL IN STARS AND TIME??? HOW MANY SECRETS SHALL YOU WITHOLD FROM ME STILL?! AND HOW AM I FINDING ALL OF THESE IN THE SPAN OF A DAY???
The channel was TheStoryPainterLIVE btw feel free to check it out.
OH MY GOD OKAY SO I was watching a playthrough of In Stars and Time, as you do, and found something I never noticed before???
So you guys know the Sadnesses that give you the tear crests, right? And maybe it's just me, but I always figured out their Craft type from their attacks and then memory on subsequent loops.
And you're telling me that, after 10 MONTHS and TWO FULL PLAYTHROUGHS...
THEY DO DIFFERENT HAND SIGNS WHEN YOU ATTACKED THEM THIS ENTIRE TIME???
I mean they obviously have different Craft types, but I thought you were supposed to tell by the way they attacked?? Like Big Ball Head????
Please tell me that some of you also didn't know this and I'm not an outlier here, because their hands flash up for like a second and they usually attack before you in the early game, so I never thought to look for that?? I just. This game. I love it so much. So many constant surprises. Holy hell.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY SIT AND STAND IN THE EXACT SAME WAY IN BOTH DORMONT AND EVERY TIME YOU GET TO THE END AND I NEVER MADE THE CONNECTION???
