Having him die with a homophobic rape joke reveals something very ugly about the writers. When Ormund was being homophobic to Gwayne, we were clearly meant to see him being in the wrong. But this entire episode, Roddy was being homophobic towards Gwayne, calling the Hightower soldiers boy-touchers, then the aforementioned killing Ormund through sexual assault, ending on a rape joke.

But it feels like it's just presented as amusing. Like we're not meant to see him as being in the wrong too, or at least not in the same way. We're meant to laugh with him? 'Like, isn't the northerner guy so funny calling the Green army gay boys? Isn't it so funny he SA'd a guy with his sword and sexually humiliated him?' /s

In the novellas and F&B/TWOIAF, Reach noblemen are usually racist AF against the Dornish (the partially brown people who have successfully resisted the Targaryens), while sucking up to the Targaryens (the powerful invaders that have conquered them with nukes and burned their king and a lot of their army). The Hightowers themselves have traditionally tried to maintain relations with the Targaryens and have intermarried with them at least 3 times. So if Ormund is supposed to be the Evil Patriarchy guy, why did they make him so uniquely based in that aspect?

(Although he did use a very inaccurate and anachronistic phrasing: no, Meria Martell certainly would not call Aegon the Conqueror a "usurper and traitor to the Seven Kingdoms", she would call him a foreign invader, and also probably mention his slaver-colonizing Valyrian ancestors that her ancestors fought and ran from. )

Also, Ryan, if you are all about making Ormund evil, are you sure that the way to do it is by having him... orchestrate the murders ofcops (who were previously seen abusing and killing smallfolk on multiple occasions)?

If it weren't for that atrocious last scene of 3x04 (even my friend who has read ASOIAF but has not read F&B immediately hated that scene and said "they are trying to make Hightowers into Harkonens"), Ormund would be a nuanced antagonist/anti-villain and the story would be way more interesting.

b&c? her son's murder? never mentioned again after the funeral. she just gets over it because 'babies die'. the people who sent assasins to murder her baby in his cradle now live in the same castle as her and her daughter, they locked her up and seperated her from her one remaining child and no one makes a remark. no one remembers jahaerys. instead it was played as alicent's fault for *checks notes* ah yes, having consentual sex for the first time in her life. how dare she. if she hadn't been experiencing freedom for the first time in her life the assasins sent by daemon wouldn't have succeeded. her fault, right?

maelor, who rhaenyra put a bounty on, who was ripped to shreds by the smallfolk because of said bounty? no actually helaena is pregnant and alicent is forcing her to have an abortion. rhaenyra would never!

her marriage -which, in the books was arranged by viserys- is her mother's doing. why have helaena be happy in her marriage, share chambers with her husband and show the downfall of their relationship after the murder of their son when we can just make them not care about each other. why not make otto, who spent twenty years plotting to put aegon on the throne marry two siblings to one another when they could be used to get alliances by marrying other high lords / ladies.
