Getting a job in the creative media industries is going to be difficult but rewarding when achieved. In the animation career world, there are many fields to partake in but limited jobs to apply for. Most of the jobs aren’t local, they are usually overseas which can be hard to up root one’s life and move over to their dream job. Here are three questions that will most likely be asked during an interview.
Why do you want to get into the industry?
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â I am passionately interested in creating new worlds, characters to fall in love with and entertaining a large audience. I get a thrill of stitching the seams of worlds and creating interesting looking characters which will achieve my overall goal of entertaining a large audience.
What do you want to do in the industry?
-       I have many goals I want to achieve within this industry. I want to start out doing storyboarding and character designs and stick with that for a couple of years while I get my 2D animation skills up before I start putting together a reel and applying for 2D animation jobs, with the understanding that there aren’t a lot of 2D animation jobs going on.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â I will be putting my own projects up for the world to see to see if can I make it on my own.
-       Another field I’d like to get into would be management, organising and directing people on the right path is something I do natural when I am in charge of projects.
How will you get into the industry?
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â There are many ways to get into the industry. One would be applying for jobs in person or via their website (when offered). Another would be freelancing, making a name for yourself, an internships or working for free (But must be cautious as some companies could end the contract if you start asking about getting paid.) One other one would be applying for film festivals and anything else similar and being part of student projects.
Looking for local work within Brisbane is a lot more difficult to find work in the 2D animation area. Everything has mostly become 3D which isn’t a bad thing but it is or I feel that 2D animation will become a lost art form.
