It was a part of Matty’s routine to run along the shore of the beach. Living in a boat made him spend more time at the beach and at the dock, obviously. So it wasn’t rare to see him around the area, he knew Mystic like he knew the back of his hand by now. Even if he wasn’t born in the small town, he felt like he did. He’d been reborn there in a way, his life completely changed since the moment that he stepped into town. Now though, instead of only going for runs in the morning, he’d been jogging most evenings as well, not because he needed it, but because he was aware of the panic in town. Matty was protective, so he took some of his free time and made sure that, at least, those that lived near him, were safe before he went to bed every night.

After his latest walk around town, Matty let out a small sigh as he walked along the beach, watching the sunset, hands shoved in the pockets of his shorts. “Pretty, isn’t it? I always like looking at it, especially these days.” He mumbled as he approached the person that was standing near the shore. “Makes me forget about everything that’s going on.”

“You have got to be fucking kidding me!” Marcus groaned as he surveyed the damage that had been done to the gym from the outside. He’d already called the cops, they were inspecting the rest of the gym and had given him strict instructions to wait outside until they were done ‘with the crime scene.’ But anyone who knew Marcus knew patience was never his strong suit. As he paced back and forth, he kicked bits of shattered glass from the large floor length windows the thieves had broken in their pursuit of breaking into the office. “Why does this fucking town hate me so much?” he grumbled under his breath, not even noticing the person who was approaching. 

STATUS: open LOCATION: mystic police department PLOT DROP: #1 robberies/murder DATE/TIME: the afternoon

           Yasmin had been waiting all afternoon. Patiently, of course, she didn’t want to be a burden upon any of the police officers who’d been scurrying around all afternoon, tending to all of the reports and complaints. Besides, it seemed there were many civilians who were in far more dire situations than she. So she turns to her phone, where she’s already gotten at least twenty notifications in the last ten minutes. It seemed the town was running rampant with the latest news story, opinions and theories of the homicide flying left right and centre. “Some of these are just ridiculous.. an alien invasion?!” All the while, she hadn’t realised she’d been speaking aloud, let alone that the person standing nearby would hear her. 

Upon spotting a newspaper street box, Ben footed towards it and grasped one of them, casually scanning over another front page story all about the latest, supposed homicide in the wooded areas on the outskirts of town. And as usual, there didn’t seem to be anything worthy, just detectives being incompetent with their statements. Not a surprise, it was laughable actually. He knew the Mayor’s office had been scrambling constantly, so much so that his father hadn’t asked him to come in to any meetings so far. It was aggravating not knowing anything more than most already did though. His focus had to be back at the firm anyway. With a sigh, he brought out his cigarette box from his pocket, unaware that he was blocking the small news box until someone seemingly was approaching. Figuring they also wanted one to end up disappointed, Ben stepped a bit aside. 

After a parent-teacher conference revealed that Nathan was not too keen on reading, Nora was determined to help her son in any way she could. Except… nothing she’d tried had worked. He was too old for picture books, but too young for the sort of novels she’d liked to read at his age. Moments like these made Nora long, for a moment, for her son’s father to be a little bit more involved in his life. And that was putting it delicately. Sure, she could talk to Ben, and he’d listen. He’d likely offer some pragmatic advice about tutoring, maybe even offer to help her find one, but he didn’t have the perspective of a parent — through no fault of his own. No, the news that her child was struggling made the woman just want to shelter him and resolve it, just the two of them, if they couldn’t rely on his father.

Startled by the sound of the bell at the front door tinkling to alert the entry of a new shopper, Nora dropped the copy of Sky Raiders she was looking at, and it tumbled to the ground, right into the path of an oncoming stranger. She was balancing her phone and the novel, trying to scroll through the list of ‘13 Books That 9-to-12-Year-Old Boys Say are Awesome,’ and the book had slipped from her grasp. 

“I’m so sorry,” she said immediately, “Trying to… figure something out. Sorry.”

It may look like Celestina was wasting her life away, but everything she’s done up to this point was simple distraction from reality. The fight she had with Camila took a toll on her and lately, she chose to suppress all that anger by focusing on other matters such has work, business and overall, having her own fun. It was a poor coping mechanism yes, but this was a day in a life of Celestina Garcia. 

Currently at Moonie’s Bar & Grill, she was waiting on a few buyers who were interested in her products and in order to pass the time, she indulged herself in couple of shots to get herself going, along with pub food to keep her stomach at bay. She may or may not regret it, but she’s been at this lifestyle for a while that she has an idea of what works best for her. Will she succeed in not getting a hangover? Can’t really say, especially since her night just started. Feeling a presence next to her, she lazily looked over and greeted them with a sheepish smile, “Mmm, hey—here to pick your poison?” She might be in the mood to be charitable and offer up a shot or boost in their system, but she wanted to gage the conversation first. “So what will it be?”

          Spotting someone standing by their lonesome, Will couldn’t help but ensure they were accounted for. He’d been working the floor all evening, which.. usually wasn’t such a concern for him, until he realised how busy it was. The crowds surrounding the bar were practically chaotic, and all the tables in the club were fully occupied. Ever since the weather started warming up, the club had managed to reach full capacity every Friday and Saturday night — mostly filled with people from neighbouring towns and tourists alike. Not that he was complaining, but it was almost unanticipated at this point.  “Are you alright? Need a drink or anything? I know the line to the bar is insane right now.” 

Attending a beach party certainly hadn’t been Travis’ original plan for the weekend, although re-arranging his schedule was a favour he had happily done for his boss. The man was all for a good cause and helping where it was needed. Especially if it meant enjoying the sun, sand, and meeting new faces along the way. While the vice principal had been in town for a few months now, so much of his time had been dedicated to work and family that he had hardly had a chance to introduce himself to all of Mystic’s locals.

Using his spatula, Travis began to flip each of the burger patties, making sure that they were fully cooked before auctioning them off to party attendees. “Would you care for a hotdog? Or maybe a hamburger? All proceeds go toward funding Mystic High’s graduation field trip.”

The beach was one of his favorite places ever; he realized it years  ago when he first moved to Mystic. Maybe that was why he had chose to live in an actual boat now, he loved how calm and relaxed it was. So he was completely comfortable as he sat on a picnic blanket that he secured to the sand, a sketchbook and some color pencils on his lap as he people watched. He did a lot more of that earlier, when he was only a tattoo apprentice. He used to sit outside of the shop on his lunch break and sketched out a passerby, someone waiting for the bus, someone walking a dog. He had got so fast at portraits and sketches after years of drawing that by now, all he needed was one look at the subject and he could finish after ten minutes. Just enough time before they left and he could give them their portrait. Taking a sip from his beer, Matty moved to stand and approached the person that was only a few steps away. “Hey.” He ripped the paper sheet that contained the drawing of said person from his sketchbook carefully and offered it to them. “I made this and wanted you to keep it. If you like it, that is.” Matty offered with a warm smile.

This was his third week in town, and honestly the first day that he felt like he could get out of the house without a jacket on. The move from Houston to Mystic had been rather easy, but the weather was still something that he was adjusting to. Finally though, it was freaking warm, warm enough that he was wearing shorts. And then adjusting to the small town energy and the fact that everyone knew absolutely everyone was still a little strange for him. He knew though, that he needed to go out there and try to become another one of them, after all, he couldn’t go back home to Houston until the dealership was in great shape. He could afford anything, except for swallowing his pride. So now there he was, walking along the shore as he typed away on his phone, making sure that everything was going smoothly with some business back home, feeling strangely out of place but also comfortable. He finally reached the night market stalls and tried to figure out what kind of food he could find. “Do you think they’ll sell anything other than beer in those?” He asked to the person that was closest to him, looking back at them. “I haven’t had beer since like…high school, I think.”

       “Wildcats, everywhere! Wave your hands up in the air!” Camila watched in sheer disbelief as her eight year old daughter skipped her way out of the main area of the flower shop, iPad blaring along with her, voice projecting one of the songs that instantly fill Cam’s soul with disdain. With parted lips she turns to face one of the witnesses in store, praying and wishing they would confirm it was all but a dream — or else the next few months would be spent listening to the HSM soundtrack on repeat. Her worst nightmare.. even though she would never admit she knew every lyric and tune a little too well for a thirty five year old.“Tell me.. you didn’t just hear that?” Hope, such a fickle thing. “Why do schools want to torture parents is ALL I want to know.”

         There was something about the serenity of the water that had always fascinated Yasmin; the beach had a way of instantly calming her soul amidst any crisis she was going through. In fact, growing up, she so often relied on coming to this exact beach any time she needed an hour to just relax or ease her mind, some. She’d bring a book, g for a swim, or bring her pup along with her to enjoy the water. Today, though, she decided to burn the toxicities and upsets of recent events; and anything that tied her to the negativity of it all. Yas wanted to move forward, and the only way to do that was to attempt to purge the pain of the past with a fire, writing down thoughts on paper only to burn said paper in the mini fire she had going. It was symbolic for her, and in every sense of the word, it felt freeing. 

       She was so consumed in the feeling of weightlessness that came with letting go, she hadn’t noticed the passerby who suddenly occupied her space. Glancing up when realisation does occur, the brunette merely offers something of a smile and a gentle shrug of her shoulders. “Here to purge your past also?”

            For Adele, acclimating to sharing her space with anyone other than a partner was a new experience — especially when that other person was the biological child she had virtually no relationship with, and they were merely staying with her out of convenience. While she expected growing pains, she never expected those same pains to result in a screaming match what felt like once a week. And maybe the adult in her knew that her son likely had a lot of repressed emotion over living his entire life without her. But the selfish part of her just wanted him to see that she was trying. 

            The argument had been what had driven Adele to seek out ice cream, just before the creamery closed for the night. It was and had been a comfort food for her since her teenage years. Only back then, it was an act of rebellion. Now, it felt more like a white flag, billowing in the wind. 

            Or, it would have been, if her cone wasn’t splattered on the ground, thanks to the stranger she collided with on her way out the ice cream shoppe’s door. 

                                    “Are you fucking kidding me?”

For Esme her birthday came and went by in the blink of an eye. Yet, nearly three weeks later,  she was still accepting parcels sent from family and friends she met while travelling abroad. With it falling on a weekday, it was work as usual for Esme with little time to make up for it in the evening so the small gifts from faraway senders made her feel much better about it. A friend had put in an order at Sugar Daddy for a special birthday cake which had arrived at her apartment that morning. After taking out a few slices for herself, Esme decided that it would be a good incentive to spend the day at the record store and give out slices to anyone who wanted a piece.

Clad in a stunning gold dress, with a matching mask, no one could say Holly Hawthorne didn’t go all out for a themed party… even in a town as small as Mystic.  The brunette lived for these kinds of things; any opportunity to show off her looks and excellent style. Self proclaimed, of course. Her perfectly manicured heels clicked across the dance floor, forcing a path through the dancing bodies as she made her way to the bar, in desperate need of a drink. After waiting a few moments for said drink, she watched as someone else standing next to her, picked up the glass that had clearly been meant for her and took a sip of it. She took in a deep breath, after all, she had promised Quinn to give this evening a chance. “I would have thought” her eyes scanned the other up and down, “that even in a small town like this, that taking someone else’s drink at the bar is bit of a faux pas.”

“Are you allergic? I mean—how can you not like chocolate?” she asked, fork hovering over that piece of cake she was poised to devour. A look of confusion having captured her features as she all but stared at the other then. The words they’d spoken not truly making sense, especially on a weekend such a this. One built for sweets. “Have you even tried it? This cake I mean, it’s fantastic—maybe not change your mind, a ‘whole new world’ brand of cake but still worth—” the person left then, bringing a chuckle to Johanna’s lips as she would shake her head. A part of her had wondered how long they’d put up with her and her rambling tongue. Though the majority of was far happier that she wouldn’t have to share. Her inability to leave well-enough alone, proving a Godsend in the moment she realized that they wouldn’t want a bite.
