I've been watching several YouTube tutorials about how to draw/design dragons, since none of my dragons look good unless I'm literally just copying a reptile photo from Google Images and adding wings. So for days 6-7, I tried emulating the technique prescribed by "Dragon Art" by J. Peffer: "Begin with a simple line of motion", then add "bubble shapes", etc. But I think I messed up, because I'm terrible at perspective, foreshortening, anatomy, and these weird angles that I interpreted my "lines of motion" as implying. Somehow, I still feel like I made some kind of slight progress?

Took advice from "How to Draw Any Dragon | Beginner Silhouette Method" by Draw Sessions, to start with pencil scribbles. Not sure I know enough anatomy for my scribbles to automatically find good shapes for animals.

7/27/2026. Pencil underdrawing. Inked with Stabillo 88 and Marvy Le Pen technical pens. After erased pencil, colored with Copic markers and ShinHan Art Touch marker. A little lighting adjustment, digitally in Krita.

Got a little annoyed with a quote from Roger Ebert, wrote a thing about it, but beginning to suspect that using Tumblr gifs, alerts the gif makers to my posts. So using a pic of Roger Ebert that I drew myself instead.

Also, I need to prove to myself that I can bang out a sketch, quickly, without really trying. What better than a subject I'm not too fond of, at this moment? (I'm sure, later, I'll see an Ebert quote I'm not annoyed with and remember why we all respected him.)

Then the day after drawing this, I finally watched Project Hail Mary for the first time, and the thumbs down turned into this endearing in-joke between Grace and Rocky. So later, I'll draw Rocky doing the "more proper" "thumbs up" (AKA Earth's thumbs down).
