why am i like this #983475

Currently working on page 40 of the comic and i keep telling myself 'don't take too long on the backgrounds mel, you can do this' but i just had the most egregrious case of 'lost in the background sauce' in a good while:

This is the background I drew (with the vague outline of where the characters will be obscuring it in the beginning hence some of the unfinished areas on the right side) :

And only afterfinishing it did I remember that there are a LOT of text bubbles on this page, obscuring large parts of the detail work:

And not only that, the characters are also obscuring large parts of it:

I'm usually better at keeping the character sketch and outlines of the text bubbles on at a low opacity so i know which areas to focus on and which will be obscured anyway, but at some point i just hid the layers and forgot ALL about it 😂 I might try to move the text around a little bit, I somehow managed to make all the visually interesting bits be in the exact spots that are obscured ∠( ᐛ 」∠)＿

anyway thought this was a funny little look into what my progress is sometimes like - there's almost always additional background details in my drawings that either got obscured or cropped out, and I'll do them even knowing that they won't make the final cut bc i just get so caught up in it lol. It's very much about enjoying the process and not so much on the end result haha
