1. Things you said at 1am

“‘m cake!” Simon mumbled as he jerked upright on the couch where he had very clearly not been asleep only moments before the slamming door alerted him to Baz’s arrival. “I’m awake. I waited up for you,” he said more clearly just as he was overcome by a huge yawn. He rubbed the not sleep from his eyes and started to stand up as Baz made his way over to the couch.
“Stay,” Baz said, giving Simon a light push back onto the cushions. Simon flopped back easily, eyes already drifting shut again.
“‘M awake,” Simon said again, words only slightly distorted by exhaustion.
Baz lifted Simon’s legs into his lap and said, “I can see that.” It was a shock Simon had even woken up when the door closed. Usually Simon could sleep through anything. He must have been really determined to stay awake. The thought made Baz’s heart jump.
With a sigh, Simon asked, “What time is it? How was the trip?”
Baz was surprised Simon was still conscious (even more so that he was forming complete questions). “It’s 1am, Simon. I can tell you about it tomorrow. Come on, let’s get you into a bed.” He maneuvered Simon further onto his lap to get his arms situated - one under Simon’s knees, the other behind Simon’s back. Simon immediately nestled his face into the crook of Baz’s neck and hummed, the vibrations sending sparks throughout Baz’s entire body.
“M’kay.” Baz felt the words more than he heard them, but it was the thought that counted.
Baz was certain Simon was already asleep even before he plopped him on the bed, but when Baz settled in next to him, Simon spoke again. “I don’t like it when you’re not here. I miss you too much.”
Baz wasn’t sure what surprised him more - the sentiment, or the fact that a barely conscious SImon had strung that many words together in a coherent and painfully sweet fashion. Nevertheless, he smiled and pressed a kiss to Simon’s forehead, running a hand down his cheek and then again through his hair.
