i wrote you a song before admitting i loved you
Everyone always looked at Mia, like she was the center of some invisible orbit no one could escape. Chan had seen it a hundred times, the way heads turned, conversations paused, how people lit up around her. But she never looked back. She always gravitated toward him. When he pulled away, she got closer. When he finally leaned in, she drifted back. They were always close, dangerously close, to becoming something more. Until the day he pushed her away and didnât come back. Thatâs when she started looking back at other people. Smiling the way she used to smile just for him. Chan didnât say anything. He thinks about that moment more than heâd ever admitâhow different things mightâve been if heâd just taken one step forward. or: the story of chan and mia and how they cannot stop with the will they/won't they narrative for almost 7 years.

JISUNGâ "YOURS IS YOURS, MINE IS MINE"
Jisung is your ex. That much was for damn sure. It didnât matter what Chan or the rest said. You did exactly what Jisung told you and learned your place. You were your own person, not his girlfriend. And if he didnât appreciate you, then youâd go where someone else would. And that certainly was in the comfort of your own space. So, once again, who cares what Changbin et. al decided to say? You were sticking to your guns.Â
âHe misses you, you know?â Chan had mentioned over the phone. You had spent the past few days faaaar away from JYP Entertainment. Far more interested in living for yourself than thinking about the menace you used to call your boyfriend.Â
âSuch an ironic thing to say when he hasnât even called or texted me.â You grumble, meandering around the bookstore looking for a crime novel where the main theme of the plot was murderous revenge.Â
Okay, sue you if you were feeling besmirched still after Jisung ruined your chill girlfriend vibe. Chan sighs on the other end of the line. âI donât know whatâs wrong with him. We told him to talk to you, but he refuses. I think heâs likeâ scared or something? Like heâs afraid to be broken up with.â
You snort at the remark. âJokeâs on him. Heâs already been broken up with.â you reply petulantly.
âY/N,â Chan murmurs softly. âJust talk to him.âÂ
You decide after that phone call that you will be fielding all of Chanâs calls indefinitely if he was gonna pick sides. The next conversation you have about Jisung is with Changbin. He had asked if you wanted to go for chicken and beer. Ever the social gathering enthusiast, you oblige. But you shouldâve known the sneaky man had something up his sleeve.
âSeo Changbin,â You mumble drunkenly over your drink. âAre you trying to piss me off?â
He holds back a fond grin at your drunken stupor. âIâm just saying. Itâs been really tense since you walked out the other day. Jisung has been antsy and extremely wound up since. Even Minho hyung couldnât calm him down enough for him to stop pacing and picking at his nails.â
You pout internally at the information you learn about your ex man. Poor Ji. He must be really nervous. But that was no longer your concern! He hadnât even spoken to you, or attempted to reach out!!! So why should you care about bridging the gap with the person who started all this mess in the first place?
âPoor Victorian orphan boy, Han Jisung.â You bellow, brandishing your glass of beer like a sword.Â
Changbin snorts. âAlright there Jack Sparrow. Time to lay off the drinks.â Â
He reaches over to remove the glass from your hand. But you arenât budging. Nuh uh. This trio of musketeers had been stressing you out over the âHan Jisung Problem.â Yes, this had its own official title with all punctuations and capitalizations to emphasize the point. Because it is a major event that needs to be dissected and discussed with the precision of a medical grade scalpel utilized in a seventh grade biology experiment. A drink needed to be had regarding this!
Downing your foamy beverage of bad decisions in one go, you slam the cup on the table, hollow glass sound ringing out in the otherwise empty shop. The shopkeeper steps from behind the register with a scowling frown upon her face. Changbin bows at her apologetically. What the hell was he so apologetic to her for? He needed to apologize to you for wasting your time.Â
âAnyway, I was just saying it because Iâm worried about you and him. Chan too, especially regarding you. He was very dejected to know that you blocked him by the way.â
âBoo⊠hooâŠâ you mutter drunkenly, head slowly sinking to the table as you start seeing double.Â
âY/NâŠâ Changbin calls, waving a blurry hand in front of your face.
âGggkedgg,mnâŠâ you really arenât sure what you mumble, blacking out at the expense of all the alcohol in your system.
â...damn. MayâŠ. call⊠sungâŠâ
You don't know how you got home when you wake up the next day. All you know is that you have a splitting headache and the sun is sitting low in the sky. Groaning at your horribly ill decisions the previous day, you glance over to find a glass of water and medicine on your night stand. There is also a note. Picking it up, you make out the scrawl of Changbinâs penmanship.Â
ââI can handle my liquor,â she says, after passing out from her fourth drink. Such a lightweight. ă±ă±ă±ă±ă± Anyway, thank me later. Pabo.â
Woooow, blacking out over drinks in front of Seo Changbin and being awarded the liberty of being ridiculed by him first thing in the⊠mid day you supposed, was absolutely the embarrassment it sounded like. Smashing your face into the nearest pillow with a groan, you take the medicine and down the water in one go. Falling face first into the sheets again, you are suddenly riddled with random imagery that doesnât seem so random. Flashes of the previous night echo in your mind.Â
Youâd blacked out at the bar. Truth. Youâd heard whispered voices overhead. Truth. Two pairs of hands grabbed at you. Truth. One set gently placed you in the car⊠and then gently sidled up beside you⊠truth. Your face fell into their chest⊠one that smelled entirely of vanilla bourbon, spice, and musk⊠truth. Evidently both parties had gotten you inside of your apartment, because your next fragmented memory started from there. They laid you on the couch. Truth. Hushed whispers once again overhead, the smell of that fragrance, being lifted back in the air. Truth. Being placed on the soft comfort of your bed, and pat to your forehead⊠also true.
What the actual fuck? Now that youâd remembered, youâd know that scent anywhere. That was Hâ
Just as your mind follows that train of thought a light shuffle resounds behind your bedroom door. All your inner monologuing ceases. You pick up on the footsteps once again as it sounds like itâs coming directly from the other side of the door. Grabbing the bat from under your bed, you tiptoe to the door and throw it open just as whoever the fuck is in your apartment reaches out for the knob.Â
âHow the hellâd you get in here?!â You shout out, bat aimed dangerously at the assailantâs face, just as Han Jisung goes cross eyed at the offending weapon.
âShit!â He screeches, before dropping the object in his hand. The sound of shattering glass reaches your ears as hot liquid splashes across your exâs skin. âAht!â He hisses, stepping back in alarm.Â
Glancing back at the ground and his increasingly reddening hand, you realize that what he was carrying was a bowl of soup. Hangover soup. âJesus Christ, Jisung.â You scold before gingerly stepping over the mess in front of your bedroom door. Setting the bat aside, you grab the anxious manâs forearm and carefully drag him to the sink. Biting his lip, he flinches as the water pelts his skin.
âWhat are you doing here?â You mutter with irritation.
He takes a moment to respond, before mumbling quietly. âBin hyung called. He said you got drunk and needed someone to take you home. I knew your passcode to get in⊠soâŠâ
Your hands still under the running water, eyes closing momentarily in realization. So that had been the fragmented memory your mind was supplying you with. âIs that not breaking and entering?â You mutter darkly, turning off the tap.
âWe didnât think youâd be fond of waking up in the dorm or in my bed.â He states quietly, pulling his arm back to himself. You turn to really look at him then, shoulders hunched within himself as he toys with the hem of his shirt mindlessly. He really did look nervous. âJust like 2Racha said.âÂ
Crossing your arms tiredly, you lean against the kitchen counter of your open floorplan layout. This was the only way youâd keep from physically reaching out to him, bitter about how he treated you but also missing him terribly. âSo you decided to stay the night and what? Cook hangover soup for me in the morning, playing house and pretending like you donât know why I got drunk in the first place?â He winces as the harsh words tumble from your mouth with the truth he knows he needs to be faced with.
âJagi, Iââ
âNo,â you interrupt, frustrated all over again at the callous behaviour for thinking he is still owed the privilege of calling you that. âYou donât get to call me that! Not after what you did, what you said, and the amount of time you let go by without a single decent apology! Iâm not whatever pet name suits your vibe in the moment you feel it, and Iâm certainly not your girlfriend.â
His face crumbles at the bombshell you drop on him. âY/Nââ
âNo, Jisung. Did you honestly think I was gonna let any of this fly by? Did you think there would never be repercussions to your actions?â Your chest heaves with heartbreak as he reaches for your hands, tears already starting to run down his face.
âI know, Y/N. I was really fucking selfish, childish. And Iâm so fucking sorry. If I could take my words back, I would. I swear!â
You rip your hands from his clutches. âThatâs the thing Jisung, you canât take it back! Once itâs out there, it is there to stay. You did that. You said that, and now you live with it.âÂ
âPlease,â he mumbles, clutching at his chest as snot and tears riddle his face. âTell me what to do to fix this. What should I do?!â
âDo you think petty words would solve this? That it would fix what you decided to break on your own?â He shakes his head miserably at what you say. âJisung, let me ask you this. Do you think I deserved the way you treated me?â
âNo,â he whispers with melancholy.Â
âDo you think it was fair of my boyfriendâ of all people, to insinuate that I distracted his band members because I lived an unfulfilling life, that I donât have dreams or aspirations of my own, that Iâm some type of parasite who leeches off of my boyfriendâs friends because I donât have my own life? Huh?!â
Heâs quiet as he stares at the floor with anger and frustration at himself. âAnswer me!â You scream back at him.Â
He flinches. âIâm sorry.â His body shakes with all the unspoken things he canât even phrase himself to say, mind muddled with overstimulation at the situation. Your shoulders deflate at this.
âThatâs unfair.â You mumble forlornly. âThatâs unfair that you get to stand here and dissociate just because confrontation is overwhelming to you.â His frame trembles, tears continuously rolling down his face as his grip on the hem of his shirt intensifies. âHow do you think I felt?âÂ
âIâm sorry. I was wrong.â He mutters once again.
âIs that all you have to say?!â
âJAGIââ he grips at his chest once again as he finally confronts the heartbroken look on your face. âJagi.â He repeats brokenly.
âI canât do this.â You shake your head angrily. âWeâre through, Jisungââ a sound of despair rips through his vocal cords. âIt took you entirely too long to properly apologize. And in the time that it took, I realized that I deserved far better than a manâ who supposedly loved me, to tell me to âlearn my place.â How insulting. How revolting of you. And to think you had your friends come on your behalf to apologize for you speaks volumes. But you know what, Jisung? In these few days, I did learn my place. I learned that I had a boyfriend problem, an extremely volatile one capable of volcanic eruption. This is me getting rid of it. Please leave.â
He falls to his knees disgracefully sobbing into the palm of his hands. âPlease jagi, please!â
âGoodbye, Jisung. The door is over there if you donât know where to find it. Oh, and by the way, you donât have to worry about me imposing on anyone anymore. Weâve gotten a clear distinction on the separation of our lives. Your relationships are yours. My relationships are mine. Hope that helps you.â Then you are turning your back on his blubbering face as you shuffle to clean up the other mess he had made in your life.
FELIXâ "METAMORPHOSIS"
Being accosted in the stairwell of your apartment complex was not on your to-do-list for the day. But it certainly did not stop the blonde menace, who had latched himself to your back, from doing so.Â
You had been coming up the stairs, fresh from a jog, more apt to take the more challenging route than the elevator on most days after a workout. It was a habit of yours, one Felix had known well. Which is why it made it so easy for him to jump out of the stairwell at you like a psycho from a horror film. Unfortunately for him, your reflexes were so good that he had gotten throttled almost immediately. All courtesy of the twelve years of taekwondo he had learned and subsequently taught you as a way to defend yourself when he was not around. Youâre almost certain the younger version of himself who had taught you this level of self-defense did not envision himself as the first person youâd test these rad skills out on. And youâre most definitely certain he wouldnât have expected a black eye to come from it either.
SoâŠ. yeah, thirty minutes later, youâre standing over your kitchen sink bagging some ice. The novelty of the situation had worn off by now and left you with a pouty boyfriend whose eye was rapidly swelling and in need of cold compression. âHere.â You mutter, gently removing his hand from his eye to lightly place the small sack of ice on the bruised skin. He winces. âSorry, baby.â You whisper apologetically.
He looks up at you teary eyed, hands firmly glued to your waist. âYou shouldnât be the one apologizing. I should." He mutters dejectedly.
âDamn right.â You say under your breath, sucking your teeth at how you got in this situation in the first place. He scrunches up his face in a further intensified pout at your words.
âSunshine, donât be mean to me. It wasnât my intention to scare you.â
âYeah, well. I didnât mean to hit you. But look where we are now.â You point out matter-of-factly. His shoulders sag at the evidence laid smack dab underneath the supple skin of his eye.Â
âYeah.â
You both stew in silence once again, chaotic energy finally simmering down and making way for a level of awkwardness you hadnât had with each other since calling him out on his confession years prior. âSunny?â Felixâs deep voice interrupts your train of thought.Â
âHm?â You hum, still held in his arms yet feeling so far away. He sighs before segueing right into what he had come there for.
âYou really shouldn't apologize to me. You did nothing wrong. I⊠I was a bad boyfriend. I hurt your feelings and thatâs what I came here to say.â His fingers flex underneath the weight of your words and against the fabric of your yoga pants. Material as thin as your self-confidence after what your boyfriend had said to you.Â
âDo you ever think about how weird it is how much weâre together?â
âSometimes you try too hard to fit inâŠâ
âI am the celebrity, not you.âÂ
Honestly, what kind of shit was that? Humming in reminiscence, you step back away from the freckled man in front of you to give yourself some space. He furrows his brows a bit, but also understands what angle youâre probably approaching this in your head. When there were disagreements, you absolutely needed your space mentally and physically to piece together appropriate enough words to say. Lest you haul off and spew hurtful rhetoric the way he did to you.
Crossing your arms in contemplation, you regard him impassively. âFelix, do you love me?â
Immediately, he lights up earnestly. âOf course I do. Youâre the best thing thatâs ever happened to me.â
Your authoritative stare pierces his gaze before dealing him a confrontational blow you knew he needed to address. âThen do you think it is appropriate how you treated me?â
He sits up straighter at the inflection in your voice. There is pain there. Setting the pack of ice on the counter with a sigh, he answers you. âNo. I regret saying those horrible things to you. It was stupid. I let the words of my manager get in my head, and ruined both of our nights. I was miserable without you. And Iâm so sorry I hurt you like that. I love when you come to events with me. I love how ingrained you are into my personal life. I was being a loser, and I was being selfish.âÂ
Nodding your head, you take in the conviction of his voice. âYou know I donât take shit from anyoneââ
âOf course, itâs one of the things I love most about you.â
âYou taught me that. You taught me how to stand up for myself when something isnât right. Remember when you ran off years ago and took my ability to dictate the decision I had over my own feelings? Remember when I finally confronted you, standing up for how unfairly you treated me, ghosting me like that? Well, today this is me standing up to you again.â
He bites his lip guiltily at your speech. âOkay.âÂ
You roll right into your spiel, tearing into him the way he deserves. âI thought about breaking up with you. And honestly, the way I felt so shitty that night, I really almost did.â He whimpers in protest at the revelation. âNo, I am not finished. Listen to me speak.â He nods his head silent. But attentive. âYou really hurt my feelings, Felix. That disappointed me. Imagine how it wouldâve felt if I purposely uninvited you to an event you had been gushing about for ages, excited to go to. Imagine how dismissive it would feel to realize that your partner purposely did away with your attire without consulting you based off of an insecurity said partner did not originally have until someone put a bug in their ear. Imagine how horrible and completely confidence shattering it would be to hear from your own partnerâs lips that they didnât deem you relevant enough to be included in the activities that make said partner happy. Do you understand now how that feels?âÂ
Felix sits on your stool dejectedly, rightfully looking like he just received a proper scolding. âI apologize.â
âYes, you should be apologetic. Because it sucks to feel that way. What even was that? How could you call me weird so casually in the derogatory manner that you did? Does this relationship mean nothing to you? Am I a joke?â
He leaps up from his seat frantically. âNo, sunshine! Itâs not like that at all. I was being a stupid, icky boy. It was never my intention to make you feel less than. I am sincerely so sorry for how I treated you, words canât even explain. Iâm absolutely holding myself accountable for what I said to you.â
You breathe in a shuddering breath, tears prickling your eyes. It had hurt so much to have your boyfriend reduced to an enemy in one night. And had hurt so much to have to be strong and convince yourself that you did not deserve that treatment. Because, for a split second that night, you almost believed the vile rhetoric Felixâs manager had planted in his head and in yours. You had to wrestle with yourself to see that there was nothing wrong with a supportive girlfriend who attended her boyfriendâs work events under his request. And there was nothing wrong with wanting to be included in the making of those memories either.
âYou will never treat me like that again. You understand this, right?â
âAbsolutely, my love.â Is his immediate reply.Â
âAnd if something is bothering you, it is important to say it politely so that we can unpack it together.â
âI understand.â
âDo you, Felix? Because I love you deeply, and I want this to work out for the rest of our lives. Iâm not gonna settle for half assed apologies or deflective treatment anymore. Iâm serious.â
He grips his pants-leg tightly, hands eager to swoop in and catch you for this inevitable breakdown. âI promise, my love. I will do better from now on in clearly, and effectively expressing whatâs on my mind to differentiate what is my own feelings versus ones someone else dumps onto me.â
Your chest heaves momentarily as you try to stave off the wave of tears before rivulets pour down your face. You sag against the wall gently, arms wrapping around yourself at finally giving yourself comfort for standing your ground. âBaby,â Felix whispers compassionately before bridging the gap between you with an engulfing hug. Your body shudders as sobs wrack your body.
âIâm so sorry, my love. I hate to see you cry. Iâm sorry I did that to you.â You can hear the heavy emotion in his voice as he trembles around your frame. You lightly hit his chest.
âNever dismiss me like that again.â
âNever, baby.â
âPromise?â You hold up a pinky finger between the two of you, hopeful to see what this relationship could evolve to. The blonde male chuckles wetly, before sealing the deal with his finger wound tightly together around yours.
âPromise.âÂ
SEUNGMINâ "COPACETIC"
The man sitting in front of you could not believe the words that spewed from your mouth putridly, like raw sewage. âLetâs break up.â Something horrifyingly sickening curls up in the pit of his stomach. The air is still, his throat dry as his mouth gapes at you. You are unwavering in your stare, brazen with your declaration of separation as if you arenât sinking the Titanic of his heart. The metaphorical Jack of this circulatory organ was dying all over again, left out in the cold to succumb to the harsh elements of your non-mutual decision.Â
Pushing your chair back from the table, he watches as you stand, making a beeline for your shared bedroom. The door closes with finality on the relationship you once shared with the Kim Seungmin. The emphasis in expression of âtheâ is important in this context for you. Because the moment he had reared his ugly head at that dinner table had been the moment you realized you wouldnât be seeing âyourâ Seungmin again. The one that was reserved especially for you after long, stressful workdays. The one who loved being needed by you. He had betrayed your trust that night. Making your nervous system incapable of equating him to inner peace ever again.
You packed up the part of your life that resided with your Seungmin, and moved out within three days. Leaving him in the space alone to simply be that of Stray Kids Seungmin. That was three and a half months ago. Dare you say it, you were slowly thriving again, coming back out of your shell from being reduced into a dark corner in the recesses of your mind after being called weird by your ex-boyfriend. All because you were comfortable in being dependent upon him no less.Â
There was still nervous energy that ran through your system. You hadnât changed that much, ever the antsy creature that you were by nature. But you were finding healthy ways to cope, weaning yourself off the doses of temporariness Seungmin had given you. You had taken to group therapy with a group of individuals who titled their workshop âThe Nerve.â Because to them, all their attendees were developing the nerve, the audacity to show up in life unapologetic of taking up space. You had liked the group a lot and taken to being a part of their guided psychotherapy for nearly three months. You had decided, after weeks of crying over the loss of a tender relationship, that youâd be your own knight in shining armor from now on.Â
Your new rituals and mantras were working for the most part. You started going out in nature more, even got a library card. You watched documentaries, learning about all facets of life to familiarize yourself with in understanding that the world had its good parts too in tandem with the scary. You. Were. Healing. Thatâs what mattered to you the most. But healing was not linear. Not for anybody. And there were days where you found yourself cooped up in your bed, drowning in used tissues at the life you so desperately wanted to hold onto being over.
On days when you got like that, you thought of Seungmin. Not the Stray Kids variant, but the savior to your damsel. And you were sad. Painstakingly so. But you understood that was okay. But time never specified how much of it would be needed to heal this particular wound. You assume that must be the case for Seungmin too. Why? Well, because he had messaged you. Obviously, any sane person wouldâve blocked and deleted his number ages ago with the way he treated you. Butâ that was part of your healing process, knowing when it was the right time to let go. You currently contemplate if today was that day as you sat in the lone coffee shop.
Today was an interesting day of the month because Seungmin had asked to meet up. There had been no prior contact after your subsequent dumping of metaphorical tea in the harbor, cutting ties with the pushover you had been. So, you had been curious to see what the man wanted. He had prefaced that he simply wanted to talk. Evidently still tuned into your chaotic frequency of overthinking to assure you it wasnât a grave life change or an emergency of the sort. You had been relieved to know that and decided that meeting him would be good for your psyche to clear out the cache still attached to him backed up in your nervous system servers.Â
So here you were. Siting, waiting, knee bouncing with a case of adrenaline mixed with anxiety. You had no idea what this man wanted to talk to you about. Getting back together wasnât an option. Getting better was, however, the intent though. The overhead bell chimes, signaling a new patron in the establishment. Looking up, you watch as Seungmin, cap and mask secured to his person, lest his fans recognize him, scans the perimeter for you. Eyes finally landing on your being, he shuffles toward you. Plopping in the seat across from you, he takes you in. your fingers are curled tightly around your coffee cup, finding the warmth of the object to be grounding to you. He pulls off his mask slowly, tilting his cap lower on his head before sliding the mask aside.Â
You sit in silence for several seconds, just analyzing one another. Seungmin has grown a tad bit skinny, cheeks hollowed out with bags under his eyes. It takes every fiber of your being to refrain from reaching out and cupping his cheek lovingly.
âHi.â His quiet voice rasps in the space between you. He seems mild-mannered, subdued in a way that signifies a war being fought that most people donât see.
âHello.â
âHow are you?â He asks tentatively.
âGood.â you reply almost immediately. And you tell no lies in your response. You have been doing good. At least, better than when you walked out on forever with him.Â
He shifts in his seat momentarily before donning a steel resolve. âI asked you here today to see how you were doing but also wondering if you could provide some context. The way we ended was⊠not amicable to say the least. I didnât understand you at all and spent the last few months stewing with resentment before facing the music and deciding to message you. Which Iâm thankful you responded to at all, by the way. I just,â and he sighs as he says it. âWant to know where we went wrong. Like⊠we had a good thing and then one day you just up and left, leaving me to pick up the pieces by myself.â
Inhaling sharply, you take in his words for what they simply were. Words. You wouldnât assign meaning to them. They werenât your own to digest. âWhatâs confusing about the way we ended?â
Seungmin regards you with a look very close to that of an angry bird. You almost have it in you to laugh, not taking him seriously. Almost though. âY/N, how could you be confused about the way you walked out without so much as a sentence uttered about what the actual issue was? You just gave me the cold shoulder, then hauled off and asked to break things off when I inquired about your robotic behavior. You donât find that strange?â
Your body flinches at the descriptive term. âStrange.â âWeird.â Thatâs what he felt when he looked at you. Clearing your throat gingerly, you lift the coffee cup to your lips, savoring a taste of your drink to drown out the thrum of nervousness sifting through your veins. Seungmin catches it, you know he does. Because your hand shakes. Only slightly though, you were a big girl now and he was right here, waiting for you to give him the notes to face this cacophony of music.Â
âDo you remember the last meal I had with you and your members?â He nods briefly. âDo you remember what you said?â He pauses a fraction, wracking his brain for what you are inquiring about.
âNoâŠ?â he states with confusion. You chuckle sardonically, not at all surprised that a fleeting moment for him was a nefarious occasion for you.Â
âSeungmin, you were completely dismissive of the panicked state I was in.â His eyes widen a fraction at the sheet music laid out for this descendo. âI had a really rough day,â you continue to whisper. âAnd you completely ridiculed me in front of your members as if my latching onto you in times of distress was something as trivial as fucking ice cream in the grocery store.âÂ
âY/N, IâŠâ
âYou donât even realize it, do you?â You continue, on a roll now that you have gotten started. âThe way you made me feel was horrible. Even Hyunjin and Minho noticed it. Seungmin, you implied that I was needy, weird with the way that I wanted to be comforted by you. You very strongly suggested I find another way to cope, when all I needed was my boyfriendâs support to finish getting through the day!â your voice elevates slightly at the end of your sentence. You have yo cut yourself off to not draw attention. Across from you, Seungmin looks duly shocked, as if he hadnât expected to be lashed at like this. âDo you know how that makes a person view themself? Like a burden, Seungmin. That is what you reduced me to in front of your friends. And you did not care one ounce to offer me the apology I am owed.â
A minute of silence goes by as he takes in what you say. âYouâre right,â he croaks, voice laced with emotion. His head faces the table with shame, shoulders drooped with mourning for the innocent, care free version of yourself he had scared into hiding. âIâm sorry.â It was about damn time. âI know words donât do it justice, but I truly am sorry for how that situation went, and how I made you feel. You know me, sometimes I joke too much and have the inability to read the room. I shouldâve realized you needed special attention that day. Thatâs on me. I apologize for being a horrible boyfriend.â
He bows his head to the table with sincerity, throat bobbing with chastisement. âYou donât have toâ Seungmin, please sit up.â He does so after you usher him up from the bowed position. âYou werenât a bad boyfriend. But that moment wasnât great either. It exposed a chink in the armor of our relationship that was bound to rot anyway. I was too dependent upon you. That wasnât fair to you either. And in my realization, I understood that I probably wasnât good for you in the way you werenât healthy for me.â He flinches back at the words. âBreaking up genuinely was for the best.â
The tip of his tongue runs along the flesh of his bottom lip as he contemplates something. âSo, you donât see us getting back together again?â His words barely break the sound barrier of a mumble.
âI meant it when I said we should go our separate ways, Minnie. I still hold onto that notion firmly.â
âNot even with a little time, or if I change.â
A deep sigh releases itself from your chest. He sounds lost in the way broken things are when they realize sometimes there is no fix. âIâm not the one for you, Seungmin. I still have work to do to curb this co-dependence, and you⊠well, you never really needed me anyway.â
âThatâs not true.â He rebuts desperately.
âBut it is.â You deliver quietly.Â
He stares at you for several seconds before blinking back the tears in his eyes. You fight to keep the ones creeping up in your own eyes from falling against the wooden tabletop. âI love you.â He whispers.
âI loved you too.â That alone was the sense of finality Stray Kids Seungmin needed to pull himself back into his image of idol-like elegance. Albeit very shaky and painful.
âThank you for seeing me.â He says politely, hands clasped tersely in his lap.
âThank you for the closure.â You get up to leave, Seungmin doesnât move, instead, choosing to focus on the space you once occupied. Against your better judgement, you leave him with this final food for thought. âYou know, I have no doubt in my mind that youâll be the best version you can be for your next relationship. Iâm rooting for you Kim Seungmin. Never forget that.â
Then youâre walking out on him permanently and stepping into the forever of your new life.
JEONGINâ "NEW THINGS"
You were somewhat delighted to admit that you took a great deal of pleasure in knowing just how much icing out Jeongin had taken a toll on him. The manchild you call your boyfriend had been sulky for two days straight since the argument in the dressing room. He had been walking around for the past forty-eight hours with a petulant pout sitting high on his face. Wellâ it was probably devastating for him, akin to a catastrophic collapse of global proportions⊠and probably a miserable time for his members too since this cold war brewing between the two of you made him more irritable than usual.Â
But for you? Oh, this was the pinnacle of your week. Yes, your feelings were hurt by the harsh truth your boyfriend had spoken for himself. But his mopey demeanor, which rivaled that of a drooping flower, had honestly curried favor in cheering you up. It was juvenile really, the way heâd storm about the place like doom and gloom itself. He was more than likely several moments shy of stomping his feet in a temper tantrum. It didnât help that he seemingly did so to get your attention. In fact, any time you were in the general vicinity, his pout would intensify to levels you had honestly never seen before. Jeongin was devious in his own way too. Because he knew how cute he looked with that drowned kitten sort of appeal when staring at you all teary eyed.Â
See, this shouldnât be that entertaining to you at all. Alas, it still happened to be. Perhaps you might be a sadist deep in the depths of your heart. A comedic giggle escaped your lips as you watched Jeongin huff across the room at the scolding he got from one of the hair stylists that kept fussing at him to sit still. He had been squirming in his seat, trying to make direct eye contact with you through the mirror. You did not give him the satisfaction of letting your eyes meet. That had set him off further in his dramatic meltdown.
âYou know heâs this close to spiraling, right?â Chan asks beside you, fingers coming up to demonstrate the visual gap between Jeonginâs sanity and the thread that would inevitably snap, blowing this whole ordeal up further. You tutted at him, pulling the string of the corset shirt tighter around his waist to shut him up. He just huffs a chuckle at the constraints of the fabric. âThe fact that youâre older than him makes it so much more hilarious at the level of immaturity you both possess.â
Your sharp eyes cut towards him. âChristopher, I do bite. Unless you want a chunk of your arm, or your maknaeâs arm, to go missing, then I advise you to keep your mouth shut and your observations to yourself.â Your friend pantomies the act of locking his lips and throwing away the key to signify minding his business. You give him a sarcastic smile before your eyes inadvertently travel back over to look at Jeongin. Uh oh, trouble was brewing.
His fox-like eyes resemble slits as he glowers where you and his leader stand. Chan, sensing the incoming situation, tenses up before shuffling away. âHey,â you berate, as the man makes his escape. âI wasnât finished yet!â
A shadow looms over your shoulder. âYou are now.â A grumpy voice speaks up behind you. Oh. A subtle shift in the air gives way to Jeongin, who is practically molding the front of his body to your backside as he hovers over you. âI need to talk to you. In private. Now.â He growls, grip on your bicep making you smirk as youâre ushered to another empty, private room.Â
You nearly chuckle as Jeongin cages you against the door. âYou think youâre so fucking funny, donât you?â
âI do think Iâm quite clever enough to hold a comedic element about myself, yes.â You grin smugly up at him. He grunts unfavorably before it sinks in the back of his throat as a whine. There he was, the real Jeongin. Lacking false bravado and made up of the vengeful potency of a kitten with baby incisors.Â
âNoona~â he whines, practically begging you to regard him with the warmth you so fondly typically did. He drops his head into the junction of your shoulder, arms wrapping around you tightly. A quiet moment passes before a sniffle is heard. You let out a deep sigh. Pushing him back slightly, you see the redness rimming his eyes as wetness coats his face. Your boyfriend was crying.Â
âWhy are you crying?â you coax gently.
âBecause you hate me.â He hiccups, nearly working himself up in a tizzy at the consequences of his own damn actions. You donât have the heart to tell him that youâre gushing on the inside at how cute he is.
âDid I say that?â You ask patiently, eyes boring into the younger maleâs own watery ones.
âWell⊠noâ but youâve been ignoring me and flirting with my members and shit and avoiding me!â
You tut disappointingly at the accusation laced within his statement. âWhen have I ever done that?â
He knows exactly what you mean too. Jeongin was always a good and diligent guy like that, picking up on your cues and mannerisms without you batting an eye or lifting a finger. âJust now! In the dressing room with Chan hyung! And the other day with Hyunjinnie Hyung!â Heâs frowning oh so prettily at you, itâs honestly a distraction and making you less irate at him for causing a scene than you were initially.Â
âThat wasnât flirting, Jeongin. Thatâs rude of you to accuse me and your members like that. Theyâre my friends, and they actually give a shit about my feelings.â
âI do too!â He exclaims pressing you further into the wooden door.Â
A wicked smile graces your face at the trap youâve just lured him into. âIt didnât seem to come across that way when you were running your mouth in the practice room weeks ago at the mere thought of the labor I put into building you up as a man.â His face grows red in frustration at the delivery of your words. He knows you are right, knows he disrespected you behind your back when all you wanted to do was be dutiful in supporting his career by taking care of him how you know best. Evidently, he saw that as a means of emasculating him.Â
âAre you embarrassed now,â you probe. âAt the way youâve conducted yourself over the course of these few weeks?â He grumbles petulantly under his breath. Toeing his foot at the ground.
âYouâre being childish. Either speak up, or I walk out.â He grabs your hand quickly, panicked at the thought of you leaving him here like this. He couldnât stomach another day of being deprived of you.Â
âYes! Iâm embarrassed. I shouldâve conducted myself better. I was acting on impulse and immaturely.â You hum in acknowledgement at his words. But you are not done with him yet. Oh, this was far from over.
Hand coming up to caress his face, he leans into the touch, closing his eyes. âOn your knees.â You demand softly. His eyes shoot open as a whimper escapes his lips.
âNoonaââÂ
âJeongin, I donât like repeating myself.â He contemplates what you say, eyes raking over your face before slowly dropping to his knees. Exactly what you thought.
Now that he was on his knees in front of you, you shake out the fury ruminating within your body. You had been holding on to barely concealed rage for weeks following Jeonginâs outburst and tantrums. He had yet to apologize. But youâd see to it that he did so today.
âWhat do you have to say for yourself?â Your arms cross with the essence of authority you know he secretly liked oozing from within you.Â
His shoulders droop before a long sigh escapes his body. âIâm sorry. I was really rude and mean to you over something silly. I shouldâve apologized as soon as I realized you had overheard the harsh words I said. I seriously donât know whatâs wrong with me these last few days, but it doesnât excuse the behavior I exhibited against you. I was hurtful and insensitive.â
Your foot taps angrily at the lack of empathy and critical thinking he had displayed that day. And to throw all that hard work in your face by insulting you to his members. The nerve of it all makes you scoff. From his place kneeling on the ground, Jeongin lightly rubs your angry foot using his cute charm placatingly. âThe little brat.â
âYou know what really sucks about everything, Jeongin? I wouldâve understood if you had come and expressed your dilemma to me politely. Instead, you just shut me out. Like I wasnât owed the liberty of conversation as your partner in life. It made me feel very disposable in the moment." Your voice chokes up, layered with the emotion of disappointment and pain. Jeongin immediately stands to his feet at this, scooping you up in a comforting hug. It was always funny when he initiated physical contact with you. He didnât like it much with his members, but he sure as hell loved being up in your personal space.Â
âIâm sorry, princess.â He whispers into your cheek, lips brushing against your supple skin. God, one thing about Jeongin is that it was hard to stay mad at him. âMust be a superpower.âÂ
You push him back lightly once again, staring directly into his eyes to make sure the point was driven home in what you intended to say.Â
âI get not wanting to be treated like a baby. You feel it emasculates you. But honey, sometimes you react so impulsively, it is impossible to not give you the treatment I always do. How about we try something new from now on? If Iâm making you feel less than the man you want to be, then tell me. But donât say rude shit behind my back and certainly donât take it out on your members either. Whom you need to apologize to by the way. Because Seungmin and Hyunjin didnât deserve that.â He bows his head once again with shame as you berate him, hands resting against your hips with that stinking pout back on display. His cheeks were still wet with weariness from before. the makeup stylist would actually be pissed at both of you surely.
Sighing fondly at him, you ruffle his hair. That would also piss off the hairstylist, now that you think about it. âI really do apologize, Noona. Sincerely, from the bottom of my heart. Yes, sometimes I do feel like you baby me a little too much. And maybe that stems from the other members babying me so much too? I know itâs all out of love and in good jest. Itâs justâŠâ He huffs frustratedly trying to get the thought across.
You rub his arms gently, giving him that ounce of affection he so desperately craved and loved. âWhat is it, baby?â His cheeks flush at the pet name. âSo cute.â
âI think⊠maybe itâs because I donât want them to see how cute you like to be with me? Like⊠maybe Iâm jealous they get to see that side of you too when it should be reserved for me. Especially when you bring extra snack boxes! You should only cook for your man! Why do the stupid hyungs get snacks too sometimes?â He grumbles grumpily.Â
A full bellied laugh escapes you as you hug your boyfriend to your frame. âYang Jeongin, are you saying this entire tantrum was due to the fact that you donât like sharing me?âÂ
âWell,â he splutters. âWhen you put it like that it sounds childish!â
âBecause it is childish, baby. But thatâs okay. Youâre my manchild anyway. I won't neglect you like that anymore.â You boop his nose as he morphs his entire frame back onto your body like an extra appendage that did not belong there.Â
Well, at least he was being honest. That was a win. Thank God for trying new things.Â

Namjoon and Jungkook had been friends with you ever since you three were slapped together to do a group-project for an art history class during university. To be honest, your personalities really shouldnât have meshed together so well.
Namjoon was like sipping warm tea while watching it rain softly outside. There was no rush, no meaningless conversation, just grounded in absolute surety. Jungkook, on the other hand, was the highlight of winning your collegeâs first game of the season while away from home field. He was the adrenaline of running down the block to get ice cream right before the ice cream shop closed for the night, and the laughter of victory when you made it just in time.
They were both charming, with broad shoulders, towering height, and swoon-worthy smiles. It wasnât a surprise that many wanted to be with them. Jungkook went through a phase of bringing almost one new girl home every other weekend; the walk of shame for the girls was something like a badge of honor, but it didnât seem to satisfy Jungkook either way. Namjoon was a little bit more restrained. He had hook-ups here and there, a lot more when finals came around, but neither one of them seemed to let that distract them from having a friendship with you.
You, on the other hand, didnât have relationships with anyone unless it was a friendship while you were at university. You blame it on being busy, juggling a part-time job while being a full-time student. You say youâd rather catch up on studying or try that ceramics class the university offered rather than find yourself at a fraternityâs house party or a club downtown. You were content with crocheting little figures in your dorm while watching anime or curling up in your bed to read your favorite romance book.
But you did wonder, on the nights you felt lonely in your room and your body restless like your mind, what it would be like to have someone in your bed.
You were ultimately curious. You didnât live under a rock or anything; youâve been online, youâve read smut for heavenâs sake. You just⊠never thought to try and hook up with anyone; no one really caught your attention. I mean, you didnât even touch yourself, really. How could you get someone to do that for you?

JISUNGâ "WHAT'S MINE ISN'T YOURS"
No one can truly ever foresee a volcanic eruption. No, seriously. While there may be monitoring techniques in place, there are still many uncertainties. Why? Because volcanic behavior is unpredictable. Thereâs too many factors to consider, and various combinations trigger differing reactions. Some meaningful, some pointless. But at least scientists could observe a pattern to understand these volatile characteristics. You on the other hand had no type of data to rely on when it came to your boyfriend's own volatile eruptions.
What started out as a normal day, at least to you, quickly spiraled into a cataclysmic event so wild, you think it would top the Guinness World Record for Largest Recorded Eruption. You had been spending a lot of time with 3racha lately, camping out in the studio with them whenever you could. It was pretty much every fangirlâs dream. And with Jisung being your boyfriend, it was the perfect way to spend time with your man while he worked simultaneously. It was the act of killing two birds with one stone. Which had happened often, and surprisingly lasted this long.
Except today, Jisung was a lot more erratic than usual, leg bouncing with a bout of anxiety. His body was jittery, nail biting ensuing with his mind all over the place. He was distracted and frustrated with his lack of progress. That was understandable. You suppose that it also didnât help how much you were chatting with Chan and Changbin either, throwing around jokes and playful insults.
But that was the dynamic that had been set when you started coming around. When you first got with Jisung, youâd initially been much too intimidated to even hold a conversation with his members because they seemed so otherworldly in their superstardom. But your boyfriend assured you that was not the case and even encouraged your interactions with them. So why on earth would he be making a fuss now?Â
Thatâs what you ask yourself when he addresses you so rudely.Â
âWhat do you think youâre doing right now?â Jisungâs harsh voice rips through the studio icily. Both Changbin and Chan freeze, mid jeer, at his words as you work to process what he just said to you.
âWhat?â You whisper with confusion. He turns slowly in his seat, eyes squinted in a way that would be menacing if his cheeks werenât such a cute distraction.
âI asked what you think youâre doing right now distracting my members.â The air gets more tense as he repeats what was said prior. Silence encases the room as both men look between the two of you apprehensively. Oh, he was serious.Â
âIâm very confused right now.â You mumble honestly. Everything had been fine thirty minutes prior. Of course his shift in demeanor was now causing confusion. A hollow chuckle escapes the lips of the man you love.
âThatâs not surprising when you clearly donât know how to read the room.â Okay, ouch. What the fuck? The other two members of the producing unit seem to have the same sentiments by the way eyebrows raise and mouths drop. Jisung has never talked to you like this before.Â
âMate, maybe you should calmââ Jisung cuts Chan off before he can even think about finishing the sentence.
âHyung, I know you like being nice and all, but you donât have to continue humoring her in this situation.â
Your brows furrow at the statement. And what the hell did that mean?
Changbin chimes in next. âJisung-ah, think about what youâre saying very carefully and cool it.â
But you are having none of it, pissed off and eager to know just what the hell your boyfriend was talking about. âNo. Let him. He clearly has something he wants to get off of his chest, let him keep running his mouth and dig himself a deeper hole.â
A smirk graces his face as he chuckles. âYou know, sometimes, it really pisses me off.â
âJisungââ Chan again. But neither one of you is listening in this showdown of sorts that your man has put you in.
âIf thereâs something you want to say to me then speak clearly, before you really set me off.â
âSet you off? Youâre one to talk. Youâve been pissing me off for days, weeks even. You come prancing in here while we are in the middle of a studio session and run your mouth ten miles per minute. You keep texting my membersâ Chan, Changbin, and Minho allll the time like they owe you a response. As if we arenât maxed out from busy schedules. You talk their ears off consistently whenever you are in our space. And have the nerve to demand more time of them, of me while we work. I understand if your job isnât fulfilling, but this is my life. And some of us work hard to achieve our dreams. Stop blowing up my members' phones, stop talking their ears off, and stop wasting everyoneâs time. Itâs weird.â
You simmer with rage and something akin to heartbreak at the vitriol Jisung utters at you. Swallowing thickly, you watch as Jisungâs chest heaves with the weight of his words finally being lifted from his shoulders.
âWhatâs weird about making conversation with your members, Jisung?â You question tentatively, trying your hardest not to cry or cuss him out.
He stares in silence before mumbling his truth. âWhatâs mine isnât yours. Stop it.â
And there it is. The root of his little rage monster. âAre you⊠saying my interactions with your members are weird because you have a sharing problem?â You would definitely not hold back on hitting Jisung where it hurt. Afterall, he hardly cared about the words he threw at you. You can tell it gets to him by the way he flinches.
âI donât have a sharing problem, I have a girlfriend problem. And she seems to think that my friends are her friends, that my life is her life. It is not. And I would appreciate it if you learned your place from now on.â
The silence is overwhelming as you work to process the painful slap of humiliation Jisung has dealt you. âLearn your place from now on.â Oh, he didnât have to worry about that. You certainly had learnt exactly where you stand if this conversation is anything to go by. Standing carefully, you grab your items in silence, removing any and all traces of yourself from his space. And very soon, his life.
âDonât worry Jisung. I promise it wonât happen again.â Smiling bitterly, you make your way to the door and exit just as a round of questioning begins for him.
âJisung, what the fuck?â
FELIXâ "BUTTERFLY IN MY STOMACH"
In your entire time of knowing him, Felix had always been a social butterfly. Youâd grown up together and fallen in love in that early 2000s rom com sort of way. Best friends to lovers as goes the trope. You both wore it very well, skirting around the crush you both harbored for one another for ages. Meeting in primary school had been interesting, with him leaning across the aisle towards your desk asking if he can borrow your sparkly, pink pen. It was his favorite color evidently. Enamored by his kind smile and freckly face, you agree. Thatâs how you both sparked a friendship spanning two, long decades. He had been stuck to your hip ever since, claiming that you had the best craft supplies in the whole school. Because of that, heâd share all his strawberry milks with you. Citing it as a reward for your kind behavior. Strawberry milk was his favorite treat by the way, and you were totally lucky for him to give it to you. He didnât just give it up for anyone. His words, not yours. Â
Anyway, that had been that. And somewhere between year 9 and year 12, youâd developed romantic feelings for him. But your first kiss would not be shared until the day he left to go join a boyband. That had been crazy, sparking a whirlwind of emotions when he ran away from you that night at the playground, before catching the early morning flight to his destiny. He had blocked you after that, too embarrassed to know he had poured his heart out like a desperate loser and stolen your first kiss even more pathetically. This had devastated you of course, considering you had liked him all this time, but he was so pig-headedly stubborn that he threw all caution to the wind and disappeared like a wimp.
So then there had been a three year stint where you didnât speak to one another. Until he came home to surprise his family while on break. And ohhhh were words had between you two when your mother had told you that she found out from Mrs. Lee herself at the grocery store that Felix was back. You all but buried him six feet under at the way he had left you like that. But all things had been smoothed over and sealed with a kiss once feelings were hashed out.Â
That had been several years ago, and Felixâs social nature had increased significantly since then. Becoming the brand ambassador for several major brands, heâd often attend events with you by his side. Toting you around, showing you off proudly like the hottest thing since sliced bread. It made you feel confident, made you feel warm.Â
And Felix always went out of his way to show appreciation to you for tagging along. Most of the time it looked like buying you expensive, new outfits to be worn at said events. You wouldnât even have to say anything. Youâd simply come home and there would be a pretty, decorated box on the bed with a card attached to it reading, âWear me.â Then your man would come to scoop you up and escort you in your âcarriage for the night.â
It was like clockwork, a routine that never got old or boring. And thatâs what you expected today as well, having been excited all day to attend a brand new Louis Vuitton store opening. Youâd gone home, freshened up and everything, even indulged in a glass of wine before Felix had gotten there. All without paying too much mind that your boyfriend had not prepared a special gift for you in your bed like he typically would.Â
That was fine. No biggie, right? Thatâs what you tell yourself when a knock sounds at your door. Padding across the floor, the beaming smile on your face drops a fraction at the slight look of irritation on your boyfriendâs face. He steps inside your apartment as you further open the door.
âLix, everything alright?â You try not to notice the absence of a decorative box in his hand. In the back of your mind you wonder where your outfit is.
He wrings his hands as he paces about. Something evidently is wrong. âBabe,â you call tentatively. âWhat is it? Where are my clothes for tonight? Did something happen?â
He takes a sharp, deep breath before regarding you with a guarded look. Oh, that was odd. What was he looking at you like that for? âIt wasnât prepared.â
Immediately, your face scrunches at the admission. âOkay⊠but why? Did someone make a mistake? Is that why you look a bit upset? If I had known something had happened last minute, then I would have found something myself. Why didnât you say something sooner?â You rush across the space back into your bedroom to pilfer through your closet. Time was quickly winding down. While you didnât want to look thrown away, you had to try to find the best thing to settle for. But Felix immediately puts a damper to your otherwise jovial nature when he hits you with several words that crush your spirit.
âNo, Y/N. You donât understand. It wasnât prepared because I didnât request it.â Then he mumbles the other part low. âOn purpose.â
You step back out of your closet to come face to face with him, head bowed and hands in pockets.Â
âOh.â you whisper quietly between the two of you. âWhy?â
He fixes you with a forlorn, yet strange look. âDo you ever think about how weird it is how much weâre together?â
That⊠throws you for a loop, head rearing back with confusion at the question. Not sure how to answer, you settle for the truth. âNo?â It comes off more of a question than an answer.
He sighs before sitting on your bed. âI do. I mean, come on Y/N. Weâve been attached at the hip since we were kids, and even more so in the time that weâve been dating.â Butterflies settle in your stomach at where he is going with this. And not the good kind. âLike, donât get me wrong. Itâs fun but⊠sometimes you have a tendency to try too hard to fit in when Iâm networking.â He closes his eyes briefly as he says it. Like heâs finally admitted to something bouncing around in his mind, causing a racquet for days.Â
You stand in the middle of your room unsure of what to do with yourself. Your chest feels tight with disbelief. Wrapping your arms around yourself vulnerably, you seek first to understand what is actually happening. âFelix, what exactly brought this on?âÂ
âThe last brand event. Manager-nim said he noticed how much you tried to be included in photos every time someone wanted to take a picture with me. He found the situation odd and thought I needed to draw a line in the sand to make sure you understand that I am the celebrity, not you.â
Your mind is boggled at what he relays to you, wondering how on earth he let his manager talk about you like that, unless⊠he agreed.
âSo, let me get this straight. There seems to be a supposed issue with me attending brand events with you because I have a âknack for trying too hard to be included in photos,â as your manager put it so fucking eloquently when speaking about me. Which you just let him by the way. And your solution was to⊠what? Revoke the invitation you extended to me, last minute, and come into my apartment with your bad juju ruining my night?âÂ
He looks crestfallen at your assessment. âBabyââ
You donât give him an opportunity to respond, taking several steps back before he can reach out to touch you. Surprised eyes meet yours across the space of your room. âNo, absolutely not. You do not get to call me that right now. Actually, Iâm debating if you get to call me that period after what you just told me.âÂ
âY/Nââ
âSave it. You have an event to attend and millions of people to perform for. Go do it since you take orders from others so well.â You snap sarcastically. A beat passes between you before he turns on his feet, making his way out of your room. Crossing the threshold to your living room, you watch as he opens the front door before turning to look at you with those sad, puppy eyes.
âCan I justââ
âOut.â You point back towards the entrance. His shoulders sag with dejection as he walks out the door.
âGood riddance.â You mumble, slamming the door. Sliding down the hard surface you finally unleash the tears you had been willing away.Â
What a shitty night.
SEUNGMINâ "COPING MECHANISMâ
Nervousness ran through your system the same way blood ran through your veins. It was normal for you to navigate life with a sense of anxiety looming behind you, crippling any confidence you could have in yourself. Seungmin, your boyfriend, knew this, doing his due diligence of playing the role of knight in shining armor for his damsel in distress.
He liked feeling needed this way, often expressing his fondness for your cute codependent demeanor. So, to humor him, you clinged onto him at home and in public. It was part of the routine, a mandatory unspoken drill between the two of you. Except, what is a normal occurrence in the space you share together becomes a topic of concern at the dinner table one night.
A few of the guys had gone out for a midnight snack, their youngest needing a reprieve from the stress of a busy schedule. So, like good hyungs, Hyunjin, Seungmin, and Lee Know had gone. That gathering had included you too by default, Jeongin extending the invite to you as well via Seungmin. So you figure, why not? He is your boyfriend after all, and his members seem to enjoy your presence most of the time. You had had a rough day too, so going out for a late night social gathering would do well to clear your mind. This shouldnât have been an issue. But somehow, Seungmin decided to make it one.Â
It started out as light banter, him poking at how you clung to his arm throughout the entirety of the walk there. âSeriously babe,â he chuckles. âYouâve been hanging off my arm the whole way. Iâm gonna need it to eat you know.â Okay, that had made sense in the moment when he said it. You were clinging to his dominant hand. It really would be hard for him to eat.Â
Nervously, you chuckle before giving him a bit of space, hovering just within arms length range of him to ground yourself when needed. You were feeling a bit antsy, picking at the skin of your lip and bobbing your knee with the rampant energy raking through your nervous system.
You had been bothered by something a colleague at work had said earlier in the day, not getting an opportunity to divulge it to your boyfriend yet as he had only just come in from a long day before you both turned around for this late night excursion. The individual in question at work had made a disparaging comment about how you were too soft spoken and shy that it almost came across as needy the way people had to speak up for you. It made you freeze in the moment it was said to you, caught like a deer in headlights wondering what to do. The person had scoffed at you right then and there when you couldnât produce a good enough answer for them, muttering under their breath about how dependent you were.
The words had put you on edge, stunning you enough to retreat from your cubicle and into the nearest bathroom stall to cry your eyes out at how cruel some people could be. Coming home was supposed to be relieving. You were supposed to fall into Seungminâs arms and let him don the cape of your savior, uttering endearing words of encouragement into your ear until you could feel better. That, however, was not the case.
The next offense was reaching for his hand underneath the table. You were just⊠feeling dejected about the earlier course of events, that personâs harsh rhetoric playing on repeat in your head. It didnât help that Jeongin exacerbated the issue whilst complaining about his own grievances with the company. It amps up your anxiety, causing you to look around for a boogeyman that wasnât there as you all huddle around a table in the back of a hole-in-the-wall joint. When you reach for his hand, extending your pinky a fraction to lock with his, he jolts back like he had been branded. Everyone turning startled eyes towards you watch as a slight frown makes its way onto Seungminâs face. He was locked in to whatever Jeongin was saying and felt like you were distracting him from being a good friend.Â
âY/N, come on. Iâm tryna focus here but your neediness is kinda getting in the way.â He laughs a little at his words. Jeongin and Hyunjin chuckle too, thinking this is the regular banter between you two. But Minho, he is silent, observing the way your hand shakes a little as you retract it from him.
âSorry Minnie. You know how I get.â
âYes, we all know how you get.â He emphasizes it like thereâs an inside joke there, like youâre exasperating in your need for his affection. Your hands clam up at this, already suffering one misunderstanding at work and not trying to bring one here.
âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â You whisper quietly. He just pats you lightly over the head, consoling you like you donât know any better.Â
âDonât worry your pretty, little head. You canât help the way you are.â
By now, Hyunjinâs eyebrows have raised a fraction. Minho even stops eating, pausing the raise of his chopsticks mid air as he stares at his band member. Jeongin doesnât even register anything is happening, instead nestling his glass of soju in hand. Your heart is hammering away at what appears to be a confrontation on the horizon. âSeungmin, what does that mean?â You ask once again.
He disregards you, instead, turning to his members who seem just as perplexed as you are at the turn of events. âNothing, nothing. Itâs just funny how you practically canât breathe without me if Iâm not in a general radius of you, or if you arenât touching me in some capacity.â He catches Minhoâs eye, who looks to be holding back a grimace. âDid you guys know that she really cannot function without me? Like, she gets all weird about it if sheâs not cooped up under me. Even at home, she has to have her foot touching my leg to even feel comfortable enough in her sleep. Itâs kinda weird if you think about it honestly.âÂ
Your blood runs cold at the words, heart stuttering with an ache you didnât know could exist with him. He called you needy, codependent, and weird all in the span of the short time you had seen him today. Always heralding himself as some knight in shiny armor catering to his damsel in distress, now sits a young man who is no better than the person at your job. Itâs an insult and backstab all the same. Itâs how you cope. You canât help it. Seungmin knows this, relishes in it. So, what is going on? Why is he being so mean?
âItâs just how I cope Seungmin,â you mumble sadly. âIâm not trying to make it weird.â Across from you, Hyunjinâs lip juts out a bit at the desperation you reek of. Seungmin, ever the vibe killer, doesn't exhibit that same pity.
âWell, can you find another way to cope?â He remarks with a dry huff of laughter. Heâs joking⊠you think. But it is insensitive nonetheless. Itâs not like he knows youâve had a terrible day, spirit crushed with the same rhetoric as a colleague. Doesnât make it hurt any less. You nod your head silently at the sting of rejection. At this point, Jeongin has enough wherewithal to smile at you pityingly. For the remainder of that late night rendezvous, you sit in desolate silence, aching and yearning for the one person who cannot console you in the wake of your heartbreak. Because he was the one who broke that trust in the first place.Â
Sadly, you canât help but start to internalize all the rude words thrown at you today as truth. You were annoying. You did depend on Seungmin a lot. You hardly ever stood up for yourself. You were needy like a fucking whiny baby. God, you were⊠hopeless. And everyone around you knew it but you. What a joke you mustâve been. You swallow your pain with what little pride you have left and tuck metaphoric tail to the furthest place in your mind you can dissociate to. Licking wounds was not easy. Seeing Seungminâs face daily, as the cause of some of those wounds, made it no better.
All it takes is two days. Two days for him to ask you what is wrong, and two days to contemplate a life changing decision that would alter the course of trajectory where you had previously been hovering. Misery may love company, but you are about to excuse yourself as its guest. Because you would rather leave than to stay and make this man supposedly as miserable as he proclaimed.Â
Mulling over your options at breakfast, Seungmin analyzes you. He hadnât had physical contact with you since the midnight tryst. In fact, you hadnât even paid him any mind at all now that he thinks about it. Instead, offering non-comital hums and head nods in the ambiance of silence. It⊠concerns him a bit, at the way you have locked yourself away somewhere in your mind. And he is regretful to know he no longer holds the key to enter. Â
âYouâve been quiet lately, distant.â He mumbles over his coffee.
âJust got a lot on my mind.â You reply robotically. Almost as if you had teleprompter level responses queued up to ward him off. He huffs a bit at the distance between you both even at the table.Â
âWhat could be so important that you hardly have anything to say?â You could tell he is trying to dispel the weird energy in the air by joking. But it doesnât quite land the way he wants it to. And you are oh so tired of not being brave, of not learning to stand on your own two feet enough to sayâ
âI think we should break up.â The words spill from your mouth like word vomit as your soul finally gives way to the dam of emotions swelling within you. It is like being awarded the sweet liberty of release the way you say it. But to Seungmin, it is agony.Â
âWhat?â All color drains from his face. He couldnât have heard you right. Surely his sweet, kind, soft-spoken girlfriend didnât just suggest a separation. There was no way.
But you are unyielding now that you have gained your bearings, and you are not relinquishing this foothold you have created for yourself. This was no longer a mountain standing tall above you, unwilling to be moved. This situation was simply a molehill, one you could move around and write a proverb about. Fixing yourself with a steely resolve, you stare into the face of the man you once loved, still do, and utter words that cannot undergo a surgical procedure of âtakesies backsies.âÂ
âLetâs break up.â
JEONGINâ "OLD HABITS"
Securing a job at JYP as a stylist had been a dream come true. Working permanently with Stray Kids had been more like a fairytale. Especially when you started dating their youngest. It had all been professional on your end, really. You had kept your head down, minded your business, and did what needed to be done. But somehow, Jeongin had taken a liking to you. He would linger after being styled, hover just at the edge of your vision so that he could somehow be in your line of sight at all times. He would make prolonged eye contact, smiling cheekily when you would get flustered. And the hand contact? That had been an entirely other beast in and of itself.Â
Anytime you needed something or forgot an item in the space of the dressing room, heâd rush to get it for you. Eager to please. And he would make sure your finders brushed against each other no matter how you placed them. Naturally, you had chalked it up to delusion, or sleep deprivation. There was no way the maknae of this international powerhouse had a romantic⊠inclination towards you. The thought alone made you feel like delulu was not the solulu and that you were simply making everything up.
However, that thought process had been derailed when Jeongin had practically cornered you in an empty room one day with a furrow to his brow, and pout on his face, asking if you were genuinely oblivious to his advances, or simply ignoring them. You would really like to claim you had been strong-willed here, fighting off whatever conflicting feelings you had for him as he was technically your superior. But alas, that had not been the case when he pushed you up against the wall with a soft spoken âNoona,â on his lips. Dare you say it, you were hooked.
From that point forward, you stuck together like peanut butter and jelly. Doing what couples do. You played your part as the dutiful girlfriend so well, taking to bringing your boyfriend the occasional lunch or snack in between breaks. You couldnât help the need to want to take care of him. Especially as a slightly older woman. Heâd relish in the spotlight. Preening at the extra attentiveness you showed him as a form of affection.
It had never been a problem before. Until Jeongin decided it was one. Lately, he had been snippy with the prospect of appearing more manly as he matured with age. There was nothing wrong with it, hardly a big deal. You liked seeing the side of him that matched the muscular growth he had put on. Evidently though, he had silently begun seeing your constant âmother henâ tendencies as a problem. He hadnât even explicitly said it to you. Thatâs what hurt the most.Â
You had happened upon a conversation in the practice room while you were stopping by. The intent was to share the snacks you had brought for Jeongin. Instead, you are met with hostility as you overhear what Jeongin has to say about your âhabit.â
âItâs just, the constant need to pander to me and treat me like a baby is excessive and weird. I meanâ she comes here nearly every day dropping off treats and meals with that strange, soft voice reserved for babies. Like Iâm not a man. Itâs just odd⊠and really messes with my image.â You can hear the frustration in his voice as he discloses his grievance against you to whoever is in the room.
âI mean⊠I suppose I get it.â A deep voice speaks tentatively. Ah, Felix. âBut, Noona is really nice and she just wants to take care of you. Ya know?âÂ
You are somewhat thankful to know that the Australian male can be the voice of reason at a moment like this. It helped soothe your aching heart at feeling slight discomfort and shame at your boyfriend bashing you like this. Albeit, you arenât supposed to hear the words. Doesnât mean it stings any less.
Just then, a snort rings out. âRight.â The voice drawls sarcastically. And that would be Seungmin. Of course it is. âShe treats him like a toddler whoâs still in pre-school. Little Ayen-ah never stood a chance. Itâs cute.â The other chuckles teasingly. You know Seungmin means well, but this is not helping.
A huff of annoyance forces its way through Jeonginâs nose. âCan you be serious for once? Iâm expressing a thing that irritates me and youâre joking about something thatâs becoming increasingly weird.â
Silence follows his words. âJeongin, I donât think Seungmin meant it like that. And I think Y/N means well too. Iâd actually be pretty flattered if my girlfriend took the time to stop by everyday and deliver food for me. Try not to think so hard about it. Otherwise, you might ruin a good thing.â Hyunjin, what a level-headed thinker. Perhaps he was the one who deserved your treats.
âWhat do you know?â Your boyfriend grunts. And that had been that. You simply turned around and went about your day, not keen to disturb him. If he noticed you did not follow your routine for the day, he simply didnât mention it. Probably stewing in his ire still.
Thatâs how you ended up here two weeks later. You had stopped bringing snacks completely. Instead, strictly adhering to your duties. In your petulant stupor, you create distance between you and Jeongin as a means to remain professional. It hurts your heart to do this, sometimes compelled to reach out and pinch his cheek, or brush a strand of hair from his face. But you refrain, instead, reverting to as you were in your pre-dating era. You keep yourself busy, always working. And it probably wasnât noticeable at first since everyone was working diligently for the comeback. But of course, there is always someone who pays attention to detail. And that person happened to be Hyunjin, the man who is more observant than he appears.
âHey,â he asked while you pinned a shirt to make it more fitting for his lean frame. âWhy havenât you been around lately? I missed your snacks so much!â He whines dramatically.
You simply roll your eyes at the playful behavior. Several ears perk up at this, also curious to know what you had been doing with your time. âI just didnât feel like doing it anymore.â You simply state.
Hyunjin pauses a fraction at your nonchalance to routine behavior. Across the room, Jeongin stills too. Color him surprised that you dignified that with a response. But also, donât. Because heâs your boyfriend and he totally isnât stupid despite looking like his head is full of air. He had noticed the distance growing between the two of you, especially during the times where he would request to spend more time with you. He clocked it immediately when you stopped showing up with the snacks and lunchboxes. And okay, sue him if he pouted a little. Your food was always excellent and despite wanting to appear more manly, he canât help that he folds way too easily when it comes to you. Which is how he got in this situation in the first place, little does he know. But anyway, any time he demanded your presence recently, you would decline with some type of excuse. Yes, itâs comeback season. But what the fuck? Can a man not spend time with his woman? These are all the thoughts that run through his head the moment you answer.
So, what does any boyfriend do when he would like an explanation for why his girlfriend is being weird? Well, he corners them. Which is exactly what Jeongin does. Which⊠probably makes matters worse, because why the fuck is he starting an argument with you?
âNoona,â he questions, pressing close to you with a childish pout. âHow come youâve been ignoring me?â
You sigh disinterestedly as you navigate around him. Picking up clothing items and shoving them onto hangers aggressively, you respond. âIâm not. Just been busy.â
He shuffles over to you with a disbelieving face. âThatâs what you said yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that, andââ
âI get it, Jeongin.â You cut him off before he can get himself worked up. But your response pissed him off further than he realized it would.
âOh, so you realize youâve been neglecting me? Glad to know my girlfriend hates me.â
âYou are so dramatic.â You growl in frustration.
âYeah, and youâre fucking rude ignoring me like that in front of my members. It was embarrassing.â
Rolling your eyes, you continue cleaning up, not phased by this temper tantrum heâs throwing. For someone claiming to be manly, he sure doesnât act mature. âSure, because thatâs the most embarrassing component of your life lately.â Your words are laced with sarcasm, bitter at knowing what he thought of you, mind going back to the rude words he had divulged to his members.
Coming to a stop in front of you, he takes the hangers in your hand and tosses them onto the couch. âJeongin.â You rebuke, but he is forcing you against one of the makeup tables, eyes locked into your own.
âWhat the hell is that supposed to mean?âÂ
âDonât worry about it.â You mutter, trying to push away.
He forces you back immediately. âNo, absolutely not. Youâve been distant for the past few weeks, and youâre so fucking mean for ignoring me. Now you wonât even tell me whatâs wrong when I give you attention? Why canât you just talk to me since you seem to have an issue?â
Ohhhh, Yang Jeongin was on extremely thin ice talking to you like that. Deciding to definitely not be the bigger person (you had pride and ego too ya know,) you give him tit for tat. Leveling him with a sharp gaze, you smirk meanly up at him. He analyzes your face and realizes you are devoid of the affection you typically possess when speaking to him. Heâd be lying if he said he didnât gulp a little. Youâre intimidating when you want to be.
Icily, you reply to him in a way you know is a dose of his own medicine. âWhy though? Isnât it weird how clingy you're being with me?âÂ
He stills at the line of questioning, face drastically losing color at the words you speak. Thatâs how you know he understands the exact connotation behind the statement. You nod your head slowly at the recognition that flits across his face at where you derived that expression from.Â
âYou should really be careful what you wish for, Jeongin. You never know who might be listening to grant your wish.â Then you saunter out of the room as if you hadnât pulled the proverbial rug from underneath him.
P.S. if thereâs any typos, I typed this at work đ. Iâll edit later. Hope you enjoyed!

âIâm gonna get jealous if you keep drooling over edits of Hyunjin.âÂ
Shitfuckshit.
You nearly jump out of your skin at the sound of Jeonginâs voice, entirely too close behind you to have just gotten there. Quickly, with shaking fingers, you close the godforsaken app and slam your phone face down on his mattress. Nailed it. Not suspicious at all.Â
In the following few seconds of pure silence, mortification festers and almost digs a hole straight through your stomach lining. Almost. Thereâs also a tiny glimmer of gratitude that he didnât catch you watching one of his edits â or, worse yet, saving one to your Innie â€ïž collection.Â

âCome on, sweet girl. Can you look at me?â You lift your head, a seemingly simple task made all the more difficult by Chan pounding into you from behind. âThere she is⊠You still with us, Jagi?â
You grip the couch cushions under you, moans pushing pushed out of you with each thrust from Chan. A sharp sting on your ass made you cry out as Chan smacked your already red cheek hard.

obsessive best friend jungkook x y/n
obsession, yearning, smut

â
jungkook was undeniably your closest friend. you two came as a pair, packaged tightly together and wrapped in clingfilm. youâd known each other since you were both ten, sat together in primary school, stealing glances at one another as though the intrigue you both kept could hardly make either of you look away. the boy had won your heart in a flash when he offered his banana milk to you after punching the horrible boy that kept bullying you, all whilst offering you a big toothy grin.
he came shopping with you, standing outside of changing rooms with crossed arms and big biceps, analysing every short little skirt and blouse. heâd sit beside you in all of your classes, helping you with your note taking, buying you special highlighters so you could make them prettier. and at parties? jungkook would stand, arm around your waist, eyes shooting daggers at any man that tried to even think about coming near you whilst he took care of you.
you see, jungkook being your best friend was indeed undeniable. the other undeniable fact? he was utterly, completely and entirely in love with you.
i loved this so bad!!!!

THE TENSED STRING THAT SNAPPED RIGHT ONTO YOUR FACE
âȘ pairing : bangchan x reader
âȘ summary : making your stressed boyfriendâs favorite meal shouldnât have ended this way.
âȘ other notes : all the stress that iâve been feeling has basically been put into this fic, i hope everyone can feel it.
you could tell that chan was struggling. anyone could at this point. he had always been a hard worker but there has to be a healthy balance. he typically knew when to stop, or at least when to listen to you when you gently coax him to bed or to eat dinner. this time however, was much different, more intense.
deadlines piled on with responsibilities within the group and mandatory presence at fashion shows and interviews. even chris, someone who could control his stress was at his breaking point. one night, heâs cooped up in his office in your shared home. he had mumbled something about finishing some things before shutting himself in.
he went in at 10:40 am, itâs 6 pm by now. you swear heâs only gone to the bathroom once and hasnât eaten anything. so what do you do ? you decide to make japanese curry for dinner. it was something he loved, something that brought him tranquility. when youâre done, itâs about 7 pm.
you walk to his office, knocking softly. nothing. you hear soft whirring from his computer and see the soft light under the door but you hear nothing else. you knock again, harder this time. you hear shuffling, before a deep sigh. the door is unlocked and opened. you see your boyfriend standing in front of you. he looksâŠtired to say the least.
âhi baby, iâm sorry to interrupt but i made curry and-â before you can finish your sentence, he sighs again. youâre caught off guard by that small action. ây/nâŠiâve told you so many times not to bother me when iâm busy.â your mouth falls slightly agape, completely surprised by his reaction and words to your efforts.
âdonât make that stupid face when you know what iâm talking about,â he continues, his stress sliding right off but not in a good or healthy way. âchris i wasnât trying to make you mad, you just havenât eaten. you havenât been taking care of yourself and iâm worried about you,â you ramble, trying to explain yourself in a situation that isnât your fault.
âitâs my business what i do with my life, piss off with that shit, stop fucking hovering.â his voice raises and you feel yourself getting smaller. âyouâre being mean chris,â you whisper, âitâs not mean if iâm honest. all youâve done is add more stress to every factor of my life, just the constant bitching and begging from you.â
your breath shortens, feeling tears prick at your eyes. ânow youâre going to cry, fucking crybaby, iâm not dealing with this shit. go to bed or something, leave for all i care,â he says, shutting the door in your face. you didnât know why he got so aggressive towards you, or why you didnât defend yourself to begin with. maybe itâs because chris had never been that cruel towards you that it caught you off guard.
you walk away, fists clenched as you storm into the kitchen. you grab the pot of curry and throw the contents into the trash like it wasnât just freshly made. after that, you grab your pillow and a blanket, setting camp on the couch. as much as you wanted to leave, you had nowhere to go.
but you were under no circumstances sleeping next to a man who just treated you badly. you cry yourself to sleep even though itâs still early into the night. the pot remains unwashed in the kitchen, a simple âi give upâ signal to chan, should he come to the kitchen later. when and why did he become so mean to you ?
