Why do people talk shit?
Whenever anyone asks that question, everyone's go to answer is "because they feel threatened by that person" or something like "because it makes them feel good to put someone else down" but.. Is that really the reason people talk shit? So we, as humans, fight to make ourselves different from one another. We strive to find the few qualities that we have that sets us apart from everyone else. Part of that has to do with the fact that we want to feel special.. But it also has to do with the fact that that's what our culture raised us to do. How do we get into college? By talking about what makes us different. How do we get a job? By showing employers how YOU are the perfect fit. So again, I ask, why do people talk shit? Ironically it's because the people we talk shut on.. Aren't like us. We behave in a certain way because that's the way we see is "correct." The way we act is the way we act because that's what we recognized through our experiences as being the most acceptable way of acting. If we are the ones behaving in a way that's "correct," that means everyone else is doing something "wrong." That means every other person who isn't exactly like you is wrong. There's no such thing as several correct answers, we've learned through years of schooling that more often than not, that's not the case. So we're right and they're wrong... Right? I find it strange. We're told to embrace what makes you different. We're told appreciate yourself in your entirety. But ultimately that's what makes people... Hate you? Question your decisions? Question your stability? Question your thoughts and motives and beliefs? I mean I get it, the more you show of yourself, the more vulnerable you make yourself. The more people can judge you. But something about it all seems twisted. Like as if our emphasis on individuality is a huge contributor to bullying. I feel like everything makes sense but at the same time.. I feel like none of it makes sense. I feel like I figured out the key to life but at the same time I feel like it's what everyone has already known all along. I feel like life is hard but.. Wait. Nope. There's no "buts"... that's just it. Life is hard.
