John Watson and 'nothing'
"Nothing happens to me."
We know why he says that, a lonely veteran, etc., etc. But maybe there is something else still. I have come across a therapist, Ruth Cohn, who discusses what that 'nothing' may mean. She says (I'm simplifying, check her out on youtube) that people who experienced the trauma of neglect often say that nothing happened to them. They didn't go through horrible events, ie, childhood adverse experiences, but they still missed out on essential developmental input from their caretakers, proper attachment, good mirroring, and so on. I wonder if that might be another piece of the puzzle of John? Apart from what we know about his sister and his thing with alcohol. Maybe the need for 'action' or 'batterfield' is not just the result of his service in Afghanistan?
