Truth told, Chloe wasn’t entirely sure what to make of Lilith (the Lilith, and don’t think that wasn’t a mind-trip), and Lucifer wasn’t much help in that regard.  It left her floundering and unsure, but if there was one thing she knew, it was that a new baby was beyond overwhelming – and certainly Lilith was no different in that regard.  So she’d gone shopping, gathering up the necessities:  a soft blanket, diapers than one could shake a stick at, a rattle and a pack of pacifiers, all things that there could never be too many of with an infant in the house.

The bag she carried was stuffed to the brim.  She held it up when Lilith spoke, uncertain but pressing forward nonetheless.  “I brought supplies.  I wasn’t sure what you had, yet.”  A pause, as she took a step forward.  “I got a little of everything, but if there’s anything specific you need, I’m happy to get it for you.”

“You brought me baby things?” Lilith asked, tone sceptical, as she looked over the bag and then at Chloe, as if doubting the detective’s words…or thinking it was all some kind of trap. She couldn’t deny that babies of the more traditional nature needed much more than any of her other demonic creations. Mazikeen hadn’t needed to be rocked to sleep, or fed at particular hours, or swaddled or changed, nor had any of her ‘siblings’. But Adam had been a more…natural pregnancy, so-to-speak, and he demanded as much as any mortal child apparently. 

But still…no one ever really gave Lilith anything without a price, without some…ulterior motive or condition. She’d learned that hard truth in the Garden a long, long time ago. Lucifer had been the only one never to lie to her, never to hide what he was truly thinking.

“Why?” She asked, “Why are you helping?”

The question told her several things immediately, none of them good.  It made Chloe wonder exactly what had happened to this woman to drive her to LA with babe in tow, and softened her expression from pleasant to sympathetic, a look she quickly buried beneath a friendly smile.

Lilith had been humming gently to Adam as she rocked him. Her voice was a lilting siren song that could lull even the devil himself to sleep if she really wanted it to…and yet Adam was seemingly immune. Though, he was at least, soothed by it. Smiling, and enjoying this…oddly peaceful moment, Lilith started when she realised someone had entered the room. She stopped mid-hum and, seeing who it was, immediately made an effort to stand a little straighter and make her expression a little tougher
