I love that unlike his reaction when fiancee walked in on him shirtless and you see him brace himself, there is no bracing or panic or anything. He really knows she is not in the least grossed out.
But also, I know I keep saying this but I am so impressed with the narrative by making the effects of his torture permanent - he is scarred and he's gonna remain so.
I love that even with all the stuff at their disposal now (which they did not have when they were broke villagers), there is no magic fix. And that she can make it look better but not guarantee it will heal.
I love that he asks that. And that he genuinely is open to her answer. (Because I think he knows that even if she says she minds it, it won't be because she's disgusted) but I am sure deep down he is nervous and a wrong answer could really wreck him. Their world like ours is pretty big on perfection and he used to be a paragon of same and now he knows he is not.
This is where I started literally screaming like a banshee on meth because I did not expect this at all.
That is basically the most epic answer she could give but also I have a thing for scar kissing and AAAA but also the way his hand clenches on his robe because it's sensual but also such a show of love and acceptance and he is clearly so goddamn turned on and who could blame him?
I think the one-two punch of this and his overhearing her earlier, and thus knowing that she not only loves him and desires him but does not find him anything but perfect the way he is now has about done him in.
I love that he has no interest in a purely cosmetic procedure that is not likely to restore functionality. He's accepted his new changed self (and her love and care and desire have a lot to do with it) and different does not mean worse. I think Jing's ability to accept world/life/his place as it is as opposed to the way he wants to make it to be (Cang Xuan) or the way he dreams of it being tho he knows it's impossible (XL) sets him aside - he will never change the world for himself at least, because his ambition is on her - and that is the person someone like XY needs, not someone who is unfulfilled without an epic dream and molding reality to abstract ideals.
