gently attempting to explain to BT players that sometimes the "heat neutral alpha strike" concept hinders a lot of cool mech design elements that make certain mechs iconic
Fully agree, mechs can carry a much heavier armament with a broader range of uses if you can move past the idea that you need to be able to fire every weapon every turn. In most cases you're only going to be firing at a single target anyway, and if you're manoeuvring your mechs smartly there will be as close to only one viable target in a given turn in order to minimise return fire. So why carry all the extra heat sinks needed to fire everything when you can carry enough to blitz a target with the most suitable weapons in each situation?

Clanners hate contractions because to them (and by them I mean the Warrior caste), the idea of making a smart or efficient decision about anything is culturally, intellectually, and emotionally abhorrent.

My first step when I arrive at work is to fart directly on to the office space heater, and then turn it on
The Dream
Been a long time since I've had The Dream™️, but it is highly likely that I will have it again tonight because of this post

Rewatching Red Dwarf and something that always gets to me is Frankenstein. She was only in one episode and probably only on the ship for what, a week? And I can't help but think about how much she must have loved Lister.
Like he tells her about Fiji and his five year plan and obviously she's like yeah just give me your milk rations, but she's also very clearly listening.
The words may have been jumbled up over three million years but if Cat learned about Fuchal and Cloister in school, it means Frankenstein had to be listening to Lister in order to tell her children.
And look at the cats in TPL:
They've got cigarettes in their ears just like Lister used to do. Frankenstein noticed that about him. She loved him enough to remark on it to her children and grandchildren. She may have called him Lister the stupid, but she loved him.
The real reason your sapient dragon character needs a "rider":
Dragons on the wing are vulnerable to being mobbed by smaller, more agile flyers, particularly in your large rear blind spot, like a bird of prey being mobbed by crows. Having a human armed with a long spear perched on your back helps to dissuade anyone from getting any funny ideas.
Breath weapons are impressive enough on the ground, but in flight they're really only good for strafing stationary targets; trying to use your breath weapon in an aerial dogfight is a good way to get fire up your nose. A real fight calls for sterner measures – and, concomitantly, a crew to aim and reload the cannons.
In today's competitive world, it's not enough to devour a flock of sheep and call it a day if you want to keep your edge. You're accompanied at all times by a qualified personal alchemist tasked with carefully regulating your internal furnace to ensure peak performance, and sometimes you even listen to them.
No dragon of any quality would be caught dead without their valet. It's not as though you can announce your numerous long-winded titles yourself when introductions are called for, can you? You suppose next you'll be expected to pick up the spoils of your conquests yourself, like a common brigand. Perish the thought!
Dragons are basically attack aircraft
Ergo, their capabilities are enhanced by a good wizzo

Listening to the Snow Crash audiobook in the car with my boyfriend (who, unlike me, has not read the book 10 times) and making prolonged direct eye contact during /that scene/
tolls: 1 hour 30
no tolls: 1 hour 35
Driving from Canberra to Sydney adds a whole 24 minutes if I avoid tolls apparently. 24 minutes longer or spend like 50 dollars on tolls because I don't have one of those toll account things
That's an extra 24 minutes on a 3hr drive btw it makes basically no difference
