Rewatching Red Dwarf and something that always gets to me is Frankenstein. She was only in one episode and probably only on the ship for what, a week? And I can't help but think about how much she must have loved Lister.
Like he tells her about Fiji and his five year plan and obviously she's like yeah just give me your milk rations, but she's also very clearly listening.
The words may have been jumbled up over three million years but if Cat learned about Fuchal and Cloister in school, it means Frankenstein had to be listening to Lister in order to tell her children.
And look at the cats in TPL:
They've got cigarettes in their ears just like Lister used to do. Frankenstein noticed that about him. She loved him enough to remark on it to her children and grandchildren. She may have called him Lister the stupid, but she loved him.
The real reason your sapient dragon character needs a "rider":
Dragons on the wing are vulnerable to being mobbed by smaller, more agile flyers, particularly in your large rear blind spot, like a bird of prey being mobbed by crows. Having a human armed with a long spear perched on your back helps to dissuade anyone from getting any funny ideas.
Breath weapons are impressive enough on the ground, but in flight they're really only good for strafing stationary targets; trying to use your breath weapon in an aerial dogfight is a good way to get fire up your nose. A real fight calls for sterner measures – and, concomitantly, a crew to aim and reload the cannons.
In today's competitive world, it's not enough to devour a flock of sheep and call it a day if you want to keep your edge. You're accompanied at all times by a qualified personal alchemist tasked with carefully regulating your internal furnace to ensure peak performance, and sometimes you even listen to them.
No dragon of any quality would be caught dead without their valet. It's not as though you can announce your numerous long-winded titles yourself when introductions are called for, can you? You suppose next you'll be expected to pick up the spoils of your conquests yourself, like a common brigand. Perish the thought!
Dragons are basically attack aircraft
Ergo, their capabilities are enhanced by a good wizzo

The IW server has been infested with bees lately so I had to draw this
Listening to the Snow Crash audiobook in the car with my boyfriend (who, unlike me, has not read the book 10 times) and making prolonged direct eye contact during /that scene/
tolls: 1 hour 30
no tolls: 1 hour 35
Driving from Canberra to Sydney adds a whole 24 minutes if I avoid tolls apparently. 24 minutes longer or spend like 50 dollars on tolls because I don't have one of those toll account things
That's an extra 24 minutes on a 3hr drive btw it makes basically no difference

All the hype about Rocky but WHERE ALL MY VAUDAI FANS AT?!
"Good morning, sticks with meat on them"
"Fingers, fingers! I need differentiated digits!"
Actually you know what. I’m thinking about how the Swarm was able to be in a relationship with Dafyd when it was inhabiting the body of someone he was already attracted to, how they were so intellectually and romantically compatible, and SIMULTANEOUSLY how he always described the Swarm/Else based on its physical characteristics. She was always the curve of a face, the tapping of fingers, the curtain of hair to him.
And the same being is now in a body that Dafyd isn’t attracted to. Its feelings haven’t changed. It hasn’t even really changed. Who was the person he loved if not what was inside of the body? Dafyd never loved Else, he was in a relationship with the SWARM from day one. That was the person he came to love. And yet he is probably incapable of separating the person from their physical form.
You really had...
...to be there, but since you weren't, I'll tell it as best as I can.
There they were, fighting a battle nobody cared about enough to send state troops over a world nobody cared about enough to mind having mercenaries on, over a derelict spaceport that would make the place a supply chain goldmine. One of those places that's in the middle of nowhere, but just half-way to everywhere, so you can see why both sides wanted it. Two mercenary units- any more force, after all, and the port itself might be blasted in the fighting.
So the captain of that unit, one Cpt. Dalarje, he got on open comms and told the enemy to make like a groom and bring out their best man. They were to meet in the same grid they'd fought in the day before. He came out in his Starslayer, the enemy brought their Quickdraw, and they squared off to fight-
-when a concealed LRM trooper fired the Inferno round at the Starslayer. It was a point-blank shot, there was no chance of missing, which may have saved Dalarje's life: it didn't have time to arm fully before impact. He caught it. The missile burst in the BattleMech's hand, and with his BattleFist scorched to bare endoskeleton, coated with flame gel so hot it was dripping liquid metal, in one clean hook he punched through the Quickdraw's cockpit and pasted the pilot against his command seat.
And so the 'First Picks' swept the rest of the enemy like a broom, and shortly after abandoned their name for the one they keep to this day, the 'Firefists'. The story of that brief duel is beatitude to those MechWarriors; if you can't recite it delirious on pain stims or eight pints deep on the pricey stuff, you're out on your ear. Some scoff at the tale, but really: it's lightyears from the strangest thing that's happened in the Inner Sphere, or beyond.
Bet it feels good as fuck to be disassembled, cleaned and then reassembled as a firearm
o yeah babey
this is why they shouldn’t have banned normal porn
no amount of cishets going to plapsburg could ever distract me from the cold certainty of steel
Disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling a finely machined mechanism feels awesome, possibly even transcendental, in every instance I have done it. Especially if you rectified a flaw in the process, or improved the mechanism.
Reconditioning a tired or failed engine
Reconditioning a CV shaft or uni joint
Fixing a broken sliding door
Disassembling and reassembling a lock barrel or lock assembly
Fixing a nerf gun (not very finely machined but still fun)
Replacing the timer or chipboard in a chlorinator/pump controller
Fixing pneumatically operated equipment
All of these things and more feel good. Do not be afraid to try and fix stuff (avoid getting electrocuted or something though)
I am a big fan of the new starter boxes they have coming for Battletech. I'm especially excited for the Beginner Box because KONTIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Give give give givegivegivegivegivegivegive me want the claw boy
Also keen to get my hands on the Rakshasa and Uziel. Just overall some truly hectic mechs. And looks like they are including different mapsheets to the previous boxes, which is nice. I love mapsheets

This bitch got a VAG timing belt done within 4 hours today I am unstoppable even with my ear melting off the side of my face
There are bats in the fig tree out back of my house, and sometimes if I am very slow and quiet I can sneak up and watch them at close range. This one was illuminated by the kitchen light coming through the window
A family of possums also live in there, this one I saw while picking some grapes off the vine on the side of the house
