I can go on for a very long time (and I mean a very long time) but in a nutshell: vintage is important. old stuff is crucial. 

The clothing you buy from online retailers such as shoedazzle or romwe or wherever! or the clothing from Old Navy, H&M,Target, Forever 21, TopShop, etc… it is all disposable. have you noticed that every time you wash and dry it, it loses shape? threads come undone, and it just doesn’t look the same as it did when you tried it on? 

It’s okay though, because that dress costed you so little money that it almost makes it worth it. now you can go buy more cute clothes! how much money do you think you spend on clothing a year? how much do you throw away? do you ever think about that stuff? who takes care of it when you drop off bags of used clothing at the donation center? where does it go? 

vintage clothing is important. not only is it made to last, it is unique. it sets you apart from the trends. retailers today literally copy vintage designs. they’re not thinking for themselves and you’re buying into it! not only that, they don’t care that 90% of the clothing the pump into the markets end up in landfills. thrift stores can’t sell these items because they’re a dime a dozen and they take up so much space. the fabric that is used to create these garments is so low quality that you can’t even reuse it to make a scrunchie. there is literally nothing you can do with clothing made today in our fast fashion economy except throw it away. 

the first step is to reduce. reduce your consumption of new, fast trending clothing. or buy it from a thrift store. limit yourself. you’re only going to wear it once. make your own trends. buy vintage from etsy, boutiques, ebay, wherever. sell vintage. make your own clothes. take a sewing class. do something different.
