Ok, ok...I know this isn't a dog...but I just have to say how much I love this kitty. I swore I would never have another indoor cat. But Cody (6) wanted one so badly. So we got Joey for his birthday last fall. Joey fit right in with our brood. He and Kassie were fantastic buddies. When Kassie died, Joey would not leave my side for more than 2 weeks. Even now, whenever I'm upset, he seeks me out and insists on sitting on my chest. What a blessing he has been for my heart.

Just a short little video of Miss Molly. This is from a couple of weeks ago. She's already grown another inch or so. Took her out in a field to get her used to this kind of environment. She loves it. She prefers to be in tall grasses and brush. We do at least 30 min of this a day. As she's getting bigger it will be more. We are excited to see what she can do after boot camp next week.

Chewie has a new friend. Her name is Molly. Vixie hates her but tolerates her. Molly is my husband’s dog. I lay no claim to her other than to say she is awful cute. The decision to assist my husband in having a dream come true was difficult. I am still not ok after losing my Kassie girl. However, my husband has been wanting a bird dog for years. Molly is ½ lab ½ German short hair pointer. If she doesn’t like birds, I don’t know what dog would. She is almost 13 weeks old now. We’ve had her for about a month. Potty training is going really well. Now that North Dakota isn’t being dumped on with snow we’ve been taking her out every day for very long walks and retrieving practice. Next week she will be going to puppy boot camp and then in May will be going to a 2 week bird dog course. She’s obviously still very much a puppy and wants Chewie to be her litter mate. He now sleeps in the kennel with her at night and doesn’t howl and try to dig out. He’s been a great role model for her and let’s her lay all over him. She’s a good addition to our family, I just haven’t allowed myself to attach too much. Maybe in a few months I will.

Just an update on The Brood. Vixie is still using my feet as her footrest. She is really feeling her 11 years these days. Arthritis is bothering her pretty badly. We have her on an anti-inflammatory and glucosamine supplements daily. The dog that used to drag me around the neighborhood can now barely make it a couple of blocks. Chewie has a new buddy named Joey. That's right...my son Cody got his fondest wish and there is a CAT in our house. He's a pretty dang good one as far as cats go. It's funny how they mirror our kids' personalities. They love and fight like brothers. Chewie had quite a hard time after Kassie's death. He also had a Mr. Miagi phase. If you look closely at the bottom pic on the side of his muzzle you can see a raw spot. He HATES being kennels without Kassie. Literally tried to dig his way out. That has improved lately but that's another post for another time...

It's been a LONG time since I made a post. Many many personal changes. My husband returned from deployment, we moved, he retired, I'm in grad school...so much. The reason for this post is to say that my little Kassie died on this past Christmas Eve. My son took her out to go to the bathroom, she got away from him, and got hit by a car. We rushed an hour north to the emergency vet. Her injuries were too severe. The last two years have been seasons of great grief for me. This was the worst blow. She was my right hand. A can of ashes and her paw prints are all that physically remain. In my heart, she will always reside.

Cody insisted on having his picture made with all three dogs this morning. What a silly boy. :)

Long time no see everyone! My work has been causing some pretty insane exhaustion at night hence our absence. It's worth it to know that I'm helping Kansas kids out of desperate situations. Around here Vixie has decided its fun to snuggle with Chewie in the new bed. Kassie is anxiously awaiting Christmas Day. She just KNOWS there are presents under there!! I am looking forward to going through my feed and catching up!

Long time no see everyone!!! In recent news, Chewie got a new Chewbacca-worthy collar! Vixie got a new very cozy bed. And Kassie, well, she's not happy that I spent three days in Topeka without her. :)
