for the curious: it's "water concerto" by tan dun & the percussionist in this video is beibei wang. this performance is from 2019 at the malta international arts festival. no full video of the performance sadly, but here's the rest of the highlight reel
https://youtu.be/cXUXQSJCEso
[video description: clips from an orchestral performance that focus on beibei wang, playing various percussion instruments partially submerged in large bowls of water. she also strikes the surface of the water with her palm to produce percussion sounds, and at one point lifts a large colander from out of one of the bowls of water, so lots of water streams through it. end description.]

Hey can someone help me go back and time and ask who's fucking bright idea was it to stick all the bass and other low register instruments completely on the right fucking side of the theater with zero compensation on the other? RIP to the people on the left side I guess, fucking ridiculous here please enjoy my proposed solution
FUCK YEAH WAY BETTER
hey that's pretty cool. what's with the turrets
From @musicmajor’s music this evening
@classical-crap
this is the future liberals want
Or maybe the future that composition majors want…
I studied composition in college and that is DEFINITELY not the future I want thanks.
My person favourites are 2/6 and 64/128
As a music major I can officially say I have never played in EITHER of those meters and if you told me to, I would Leave.
I checked yesterday and the 2nd violin part is the only part with this time signature instead of 2/4 lol 2nd violins are just special
summoning the will to open the violin case after 7 months
it was still in tune 😭😭😭😭😭
opened my piano music as well

the notes on the last poll i reblogged left me with questions 🥲
very specific poll
i can read alto clef and I'm hypermobile/double jointed
i can read alto clef and I'm not hypermobile
i can't read alto clef and I'm hypermobile
neither alto clef nor hypermobility
despite her efforts to evade me, i have finally filmed my cat playing my harp
Is a tiny cat playing a harp blasé to you people?? You don't even have time to give her a little like for her recital 🥺?

So this is my halloween costume it took me 40 minutes to memorize the lyrics and the chords and the strumming well enough to get through 30 seconds without messing up lol so please appreciate
What instruments do you play?
Him: yes
[Tiktok: white text asking “Musicians, what instruments do you play?” Cuts to a man asking the question aloud. Cuts to another man in a pink shirt who proceeds to play ‘Fireflies’ by Owl City on a seemingly unending series of instruments, initially only doing one note of the song per instrument.]
video ID loses points for not mentioning that the rendition of Fireflies is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS
Back in the day, this guy could have made some serious money playing in orchestras for movie soundtracks. (It’s mostly done with synths now and it’s kind of a dead art.) One of my music profs in college used to play on film soundtracks for a living and he explained that they would pay you per instrument. So the more stuff you could play, the more you would get. The loophole he constantly exploited as a guitar player is that every effects pedal counted as a separate instrument for some reason.
