the second night
today we almost went to the tree.
but i’m really glad we didn’t.
today was about learning to function as a crew, and getting to know the area.
first stop in the morning was to Garberville, about 16 miles north of Leggett, where we splurged on old timey flavored sodas and “wilderness flannel jackets.” we confirmed the pronunciation of Leggett, and it’s indeed not Leggett.
we made a quick lunch (sandwiches for the carnivores and ramen for the vegetarian/Lily) and decided while we waited to interview Billie, the lovable owner of our motel campground, to head to the Legend of Bigfoot gift shop to find more locals.
we got some great footage of gift shop clerk Dave, a twenty something from next town over Piercy, and Becky, who runs the store at an attraction down the road called Confusion Hill, home of the Gravity House.
Glenn headed down to the river, and the rest of us spent an hour with Billie, finding out more about her fascination with the trees and why she decided to move to the area first from Manchester, England, then the bay area with her son and daughter-in-law. she is truly a fantastic woman.
which brings tomorrow to the tree! we have a comprehensive 2 camera plan for shooting our first drive thru, and then it’ll be a full day of interviewing other drive thru-ers.
it’s been a treat living off the grid with virtually no phone service. the people here enjoy the quiet life, and while i’m not sure i could do it year round, it certainly is peaceful.

One of our favorite spots at Redwoods River Resort were the trails that led down to the beautiful Eel River. We had so much fun exploring and shooting footage by the water!
This is the second post in our “meet the crew” series! This week we’re talking to our amazing film editor, Hunter.

Almost everywhere we went in Leggett, we saw the popular art of woodworking. Check out some examples from Confusion Hill, the Legend of Bigfoot giftshop, and Redwoods River Resort!

Our series took a couple days longer than a weekend to shoot, but we agree!
