You cannot convince me otherwise. I mean, the whole show is Ellie Miller explaining social cues to him and him hyperfixating on his job. Policing is definitely his special interest. He can't switch off.

He gives too much eye contact when he's listening but draws his eyes away as soon as he has to speak (this is very common in autism), he finds it difficult to empathise even though he tries very hard to understand, he says things that aren't socially acceptable (like the time he was ranting to Miller about hating people being called by their first names), he struggles in inter-personal settings, he wears the same clothes all the time and he speaks in a very monotone voice.

But, despite all of this he makes a good detective. It's common for autistic people to mask when they're working and I believe that's what Alec is doing.

In terms of the asexuality, he didn't understand why his wife left him for another man and I just see him as ace. I think she wanted more from the relationship and he couldn't explain why he didn't want to ... do that. So, she looked elsewhere for it with the other DS on their team.

Alec Hardy is one of the most interesting characters written and I see myself in him so much.
