Maybe, an unpopular opinion: We are used to see Mr Kightley as the voice of reason throughout all the past movies adaptations. Fortunately, since the new #emma2020 directed by #autumndewilde (a magnificent woman with a witty sense of humour, just like Jane), we can spot the presence of a few defects which are relevant for the character evolution to me:
"She always declares that she will never marry": using " declares" he decides to underline that "she is saying something but after all is quite mean less", he cares deeply for Emma but he is also chained into an old common sense where a woman who "declares something has to be considered relative".
To not be so hard with my beloved Mr Knightley, I need to admit that during the regency era it was true that women cannot "decide", Emma is able to do it just because she is rich and she knows it and that's why she will try to help Harriet.
So here we are: Mr Knightley is not SO perfect and Emma is, in her personal way, a compassionate woman who cares for freedom of speech and choice.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST! Men in this movie cry, finally! Ahahhahahah.
