honestly one of my favorite things about fanfic is when you can see the canon influences come out in really subtle ways. like a canon line thats mentioned once as a throwaway is suddenly the entire premise for a fic or it influences the characterization or something. its just so cool to see how people weave their ideas around a source material, especially if its not a detail i'd thought about before

catherine is hopefully going to become the new demi (dropout’s up-and-coming superstar), which works because demi is on his way to becoming the new brennan (in everything yet still can’t win one damn time, sam has him on speed dial), and that also works because brennan is somewhere out there playing ten games of dungeons and dragons at once

teor's last gift to wick being to give him a level 20 in charisma only for wicander to immediately fail every damn charisma check he tried to make at the manor. if he was in a grave, that lion would be rolling in it.

And then Wick arrives asking about Petra and Ryah

I'll admit, Azune purposefully changing his features to more resemble a mix of Harondus and his wife is an insane move, and I am HERE! FOR! IT! Nobody is doing it like him! No one is on his fucking level! The nobles are all trying to play the Game of Thrones, and Azune is playing circles around them. He is the star! He is the moment! He is smearing his sister's blood across his face to feel closer to her!

Yup. This is what we want.

one underrated thing about hal's family that people have probably talked about but that i especially wanna give kudos to is the representation of the blended family. thaisha and elodie not only tolerate each other, but have a deep friendship. hal calls shadia and hero "our daughters" when speaking to elodie, even though elodie is only biologically related to one. as someone who came from a fucked-up "blended" family that never fully got along, seeing good representation of loving families with varied parental dynamics is healing.

#the allegory to Black boyhood Lou brought to this character is simply unmatched by any other adaptation of pinocchio. it's That Good.
