I love Sense8 as a whole. But one of the things I loved MOST in the entire show was the blowing up of the car.
Why ? Because Nomi said hesitating to damage an expensive car goes against men's instincts. AND SHE WAS RIGHT
It's not exactly a toxic masculine trait, just apparently a masculine trait/instinct that is fundamentally protective rather than destructive. It's one of those gender thing that are not negative just there.
But what amazes me in it are the scientific implications of it.
She, as a trans woman, doesn't feel that instinct to protect the car, she was the one to suggest blowing it up !
So that *instinct* is linked to gender, not to biological predispositions.
To your gender. Which is ultimately a choice and made up thing. Something you learn and integrate as your own through the years living in society. At some point in that learning/training for your gender, fundamental instincts like the one not to damage an expensive car insinuate inside you without you clearly learning them.
Do I think it's bullshit ? Absolutely not !
I think it's legit and it fucking blows my mind ! That your gender, that you learn and absorb into your personality, that can change and evolve or not be there at all, comes with those unconcious protocols is insanely interesting and my scientific mind can't stop thinking about it.
Does the man part of me would fight the idea of damaging a very expensive car ? I don't know. But it has that love for my car that truly doesn't make a lot of sense since it's a piece of crap.
I love the idea that gender insinuates itself inside our minds enough to rewrite it completely in useless and stupid and funny ways that don't really make sense, and I love that if your gender changes, those hidden neural pathways change with it.
