Happy Trans Day everyone! May you all be blessed and feel comfortable in your own skin. Today we celebrate the joy and beauty of being ourselves ππ³οΈββ§οΈ
the megalesia was a festival celebrated in rome from the 4th-10th april. there were games and plays held in her honour, as well as public pageants led by her priests, the galli. the festivities culminated in the public procession of the goddess' statue to the circus maximus, where chariot races were held for her.
this year, i plan to celebrate by hosting parties - since the roman elite would be expected to compete with each other by holding the most elaborate parties (easily done since it's also my birthday over this period), burning incense for cybele, and dancing!
hope everyone has a wonderful megalesia! x

"I prithee, clear-voiced Muse, daughter of mighty Zeus, sing of the mother of all gods and men. She is well-pleased with the sound of rattles and of timbrels, with the voice of flutes and the outcry of wolves and bright-eyed lions, with echoing hills and wooded coombes. And so hail to you in my song and to all goddesses as well!"--- The Homeric Hymn to the mother of the Gods
This is my interpretation and how I see Rhea, the mother of the gods.A few years back when I studied the mythos I became entranced by Rhea and the more I learn the more fascinating I find her so when I learned that she early was closely identified with the Phrygian mother-goddess Kybele (whose orgiastic cult seemed to have included nocturnal mountain rites with much drinking and frantic dancing) and that In ancient Rome, where Kybele was known as Magna Mater (The Great Mother), her priests were castrated and wore women's clothes - she became a bit more crazy to me and I loved it! It gave me a different perception and deeper understanding of her than the one I previously had. She's a wild, fierce and strong figure despite what she went through.
I hope that everyone is doing well

cybele, the mother of the gods
great mother, this international womans day, may you protect and oversee me and all my trans sisters, bless us with long and happy lives
Cybele Mother of the gods β power of nature β protector of cities
In mythology, Cybele is a deity of Phrygian origin, later adopted by the Greeks and then by the Romans. She is the daughter of the Sky and the Earth and the mother of the gods. She represents the vegetative and wild power of nature.
She may be depicted standing or seated on her throne, guarded by two lions or riding in a chariot drawn by wild beasts, symbols of strength. The key she holds opens the gate of the Earth, where its riches are kept. Her crown, adorned with small towers, symbolizes the cities she protects.
