Vegan in France
It’s been nearly three weeks since our arrival to France. If you’re a vegan and have travelled to France, you’d understand why it is difficult to find eateries that have vegan dishes. The nation’s love for butter and cheese is ubiquitous. Even salads have some meat (i.e. lardons) or goat cheese (fromage du chevre).
Had I been a vegan twenty odd years ago when I was a student in Lyon, I would have struggled. These days the internet is a marvel at finding all sorts of information one needs. I somewhat rely on Happy Cow to provide guidance of where to eat. In Bordeaux I went to L’Oisseau Caboose. I did blunder and ordered a dish that ended up with melted cheese on top so unless the eatery is purely vegan, expect more cheese and butter!
