G2 students studied Rocky Byun, a balance artist.
They’ve discussed how 3D shapes can represent their many personalities. We talked about how these personalities are really hard to balance, but it’s essential we balance them. Students talked about patience and time they have to put into this balancing, but they loved the challenge. They decided on their own composition for their balance with the shapes they’ve made. They then learned about still life drawing including drawing outlines and using values.

1st graders look at real life trees, observe and discuss the parts of tree, and how they look on each part.
Then we looked at Mastumoto Goshun’s cherry blossom painting, and discussed the artist’s use of space.Â
We then created our own drawings of trees with observation of tree as a reference.
Next we will be moving on to creating this with paint!
