Grade 2 finished their project on Rocky Byun! They’ve learned about value, and challenged themselves to look at where the shadows are, where the shadows are stronger.

They’ve discussed how 3D shapes can represent their many personalities. We talked about how these personalities are really hard to balance, but it’s essential we balance them. Students talked about patience and time they have to put into this balancing, but they loved the challenge. They decided on their own composition for their balance with the shapes they’ve made. They then learned about still life drawing including drawing outlines and using values.

Students are given various materials to share and create a mandala. We talked about symmetry, line of symmetry and mandala. We also talked about how various materials can become one to create something beautiful.

Students study japanese cherry blossom paintings, analyze the compartments of a tree, and draw a tree for practice, then use movement of paint to create a spring tree of their own.
