in 5th grade we had to create a how-to presentation. there was a girl that did one on how to make stickers; there was a guy that showed us how to draw a dog out of a stick figure. when it was my turn, i showed the class how to make kirby with the variety of shapes that microsoft powerpoint had. i presented in one of those japanese dinosaur hoodies while rocking a side part. i like to think of this as one of my prouder moments.

5 Things I learned today while chaparoning an elementary school field trip...
I apparently sound country. Adult chaperones have cliques, same as kids. I’m 52 years old, and I’m still the odd man out. City kids wouldn’t last five minutes in the woods. I’m the epitome of cool step-dads. Your arguments are inconsequential to the facts.
So I was just on Pinterest and for some reason I got a “Tips for Middle School” video (context: I’m in high school so these were made for and by people younger than me). I went down a rabbit hole and found A BUNCH. Let me tell you, most of these tips were TERRIBLE ADVICE. Some were actually good but most were really bad. Like I’m talking “always wear makeup but not too much”, “have a lot of cool friends”, “only wear cool outfits”, “don’t act weird”, “fit in”.
I’m really glad I didn’t see those in middle school, cause those were all the things I was being told and seeing around me. I wanted to say something to anyone going into middle school who is looking up tips:
The most important thing in middle school is to be nice. Grades won’t matter as much as it seems like they do now. Obviously try but don’t beat yourself up too much over a grade that isn’t a 100. You passed? Just study a little more next time and pay attention. It will work out. (Coming from someone who had a 99-100 average, it doesn’t get you anywhere after. Just try your best)
Be yourself as much as you can. You will be much happier when you learn that other people don’t care about that one thing you did as much as you think they do. If they really care that much, they need to get a life.
ENJOY IT WHEN YOU CAN!!! Some of middle school may be the hardest time of your life so far, but some of it will help you so much. Make friends with that person who you’d like to talk to, join clubs, be weird, ask questions, don’t pretend to not know things. YOU ONLY HAVE THREE YEARS!!!
