the     usually     obedient     and     cooperative     riley     shakes     her     head     ,     holding     onto     the     covers     tighter     .                         she     feels     awful     and     refuses     to     leave     her     bed     .                         ❛           no     .          ❜                         she     doesn’t     even     recall     if     he’s     asked     her     to     get     out     from     underneath     the     blankets     trying     and     failing     to     keep     her     warm     .                         ❛          john     ,     it's     .                         cold   .          ❜

               𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘸𝘯 .   to him the night is an omen ,  a reminder of his truer purpose .   it calls to him .   and yet             with this newfound responsibility ,  he finds himself restrained in a way he’s never been before .   tied down .   clearly ,  taking her along with him was not an option ,   she would have to stay in the hotel for now .   he’d figure the rest out later .   tentatively ,  he seats himself alongside the bed ,  next to her covered body ,  watches how she still shivers despite the layers he’s thrown on her .   he gently places a palm on the crown of her head ,  in hopes to seize her delirious gaze .

               ‘    𝘪 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸  ,    ’    𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘧𝘢𝘶𝘭𝘵 ,  𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘳 .   for pushing her away ,  and driving distance between them .   leaving her for prolonged periods only to sporadically drop in .   this isn’t how it should be .   at best ,  he is cruel ,  callous ,  an open -wound              imperially unworthy of her tenderness ,  and the warmth she so willingly desires to share with him .   all that which he would undoubtedly accept had he been a different man ,  with a different life .   but in this life ,  he has chosen to protect her .   

               ‘    𝘪 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 .    ’     he looks into tearful eyes ,  weighty hand coming down to wipe at the falling droplet that cascades along her delicate features .   for a moment ,  he rests the palm of his hand against her cheek and her weary eyes shut .   truly ,  he is a harbinger of anguish            an omen .     ‘    𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯'𝘵 𝘣𝘦 .    ’              @mataab  .

     much    wasn’t    said    of     his    past    other    than    the    loss   of    his   wife   .    your    dark    optics    soften   ,    posture    straight  ,   inhuman    motion   and    you’re    standing   up     right  .     «    PLEASE  ,   DON’T    APOLOGIZE   .     »    you   reach    for     him   ,   assisting    him    to    sit   .   you’re     softly     humming  ,    dark    curls    bounce    with    your    steps  .  WOUNDED   ANIMALS    BITE   ,   CAREFUL  !    you    open    the   medicine   convenient  .    seeking  ,    searching    for     FIRST   AID  .   familiar   red   cross   blaring    in    your    face   .        you    weren’t     sure     to     left     at     his     morbid     sense    of    humor    under    these    dire    circumstances   .      «    I’VE   SEEN   BETTER   DAYS  ,  JOHN    BUT    THIS   IS   THE   WORST   I’VE   SEEN   YOU  .   »    you    open   the   box    and    begin    to    dress    his     wounds  .

               𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 ,   the toll a job like this takes on his body .   he is accustomed to the bruises ,  the scrapes ,  the cuts .   familiarized with cracked ribs and internal bleeding ,  deadened to the feeling of pain .   these are things that come with the job .   bolded in the fine print .   his response is simply a pained grunt as she helps him into a chair ,  a heavy gaze watches as diva equips herself with adequate supplies              wick is indebted to her for this lifetime and the next .   he watches as she finds the aid kit in the dark of the room .

          “  I’M   SORRY ,   I   was   waiting   for   a   question .   it   was   all …   ”   a   shrug ,   a   casual   shake   of   his   head ,   “   MONOLOGUE   there   for   a   while ,   so   I   kinda   tuned   out .   ”          (   @mryaga  !   )
