Ellie laughed as she yet again hit someone with her giant costume. âIâm sorry.â she said, although secretly loving how much fuss people had to put up with being near her.Â
Stumbling forward slightly, Tim turned round and instantly broke into a large smile. It might have looked creepy with his blood stained face and zombie make-up but he was in a good mood. Heâd had a couple to drink but he had no plans of getting drunk. After the state he was in after the last big party in Lincolnshire he didnât fancy reliving the hangover. âYou donât need to apologise when youâre wearing a costume that great.â
âHey. Do you mind if I take some photos of you? I love your costume.â Rose said, lifting up her large film camera as to signify that she was the real deal.
Tim turned in response to the girlâs voice. Glancing down at himself and the homemade zombie costume, he smiled. âYeah, sure. A friend from work helped me put this together so I canât really take all the credit. Iâm Tim by the way. So what do you want me to do? Stand and smile? Scary face? Maybe eat some brains?â
Text â Everyone
Josh: Want to buy some weed?
Josh: Need some more booze money
Tim: Is this some kind of set up?
âIt is,â Ben chuckled as he started walking beside Tim. âIâm starting to slightly regret taking it but I suppose itâll be worth it in the end.â He smiled and shook Timâs hand when he offered it, though did it quickly as it looked like Tim would drop the books if he did it for too long. âNice to meet you, Tim. Iâm Ben. If you donât mind me saying, your accent sounds quite Southern - are you from somewhere else too?â
Tim nodded with a smile, happy to have both hands back on the stack of books in his arms before he made a fool of himself and dropped them. âLikewise. Yeah, Iâm actually from Newquay. It was a bloody long drive here believe me, Iâm surprised my car made it here in one piece. What about you? I donât think Iâve seen you kicking round these parts before.â

âGood,â she lied, pulling Tim into a hug. âGoodâŚyeah Iâm good,â she continued, in the same sentence.â God, thatâs not a normal amount of times to say good, is it? Anyhow, are you alright?â
âHey, whatâs normal anyway?â Tim said as he let go of Cleo, looking down at her and smiling. âIâm doing alright, yeah. Plodding along, you know. So whatâs new with you then? Whatâve you been up to lately in this crazy town?â
May smiled thankfully at Tim as he took some of the books off her. She cringed at him asking her how she was, she was sick and tired of hearing that question off people. âIâm fine.â She said coolly, hoping he got the hint that she didnât want to talk further. âIt was boring, too many bugs and too many people.â She admitted. âI didnât really enjoy myself.â She added, speaking honestly. âBeing that close to everyone in this town; not a fun experience.â She spoke softly.Â
Tightening his grip on the books, he frowned slightly. It seemed like May wasnât really talking like she did normally. Like her sentences were a bit too blunt. Tim didnât want to push the matter if something had happened that May didnât want to talk about, but at the same time he was concerned that one of his friends wasnât OK. âNo? I think camping with friends can be pretty good fun sometimes though.â He paused, softening the tone of his voice. âNothingâŚnothing bad happened on the trip did it?â
Imogen grinned and happily handed him some of the bags, starting to walk beside him. âOh yeahâŚâ she groaned, casting her memory back to that night. It was still hard to believe thatâd happened, though the healing scar on her leg that she continued to try and hide was proof that it had. âIâm alright, ta. Better than I was thaâ night, anyway. S'pose itâs a good icebreaker for tha future,â she replied with a lighthearted chuckle. âAnyway, whereâve ya been since then, eh? Feels like yaâve been livinâ under a rock or summat.â
Tim chuckled. âWell yeah, I suppose not many people can say they were shot, and on a boat at that. Iâm glad youâre doing alright though, you definitely look well.â He smiled, meaning every word. Maybe he could do the whole friend thing with Imogen. Sheâd always been a great addition to his life, theyâd always had fun together. Chuckling again, he cleared his throat before talking. âI seem to have a habit of doing that, eh? Iâve just been working really, nothing that exciting. Itâs just sometimes easier to keep my head down and out of the drama for a while. Itâs nothing like it is at home, this place is pretty crazy.â
Serafina smiled and let Tim take one of her bags. She started walking, looking over at him. âThank you. It is nice to meet you Tim, Iâm Serafina.â She giggled. âYou are not weird, anyway. You seem perfectly lovely to me.â She pointed ahead of them. âMy flat is just up this hill, so there is not very long to walk. The bag isnât too heavy for you, is it?â
âSerafina, thatâs an unusual name. Lovely though.â Tim smiled, walking along next to the girl. Glancing down at the bag, he shifted the weight of the bag from one hand to the other. âNot at all. I can even take another if youâre struggling?â
Georgia giggled after a short sigh. âYouâre just trying to make me feel better. A positive trait doesnât make up for a negative one! ThanksâŚyou really know how to charm a girl. Iâm Georgia.â
âWell, is it working?â Tim asked with a lopsided smile. âLovely to meet you Georgia, Iâm Tim.â

âItâll be bit of a trek too, so Iâll spare you.â Bennie responded, shifting the weight of the spare parts, many caked in mud, sheâd been collecting to contribute to her latest renovation of an old school bus. âBesides, we manage.â She added, looking to one of her dogs, FĂŠlix, who had accompanied her and now stood proudly with a single long stick in his mouth.Â
Tim smiled down at the dog. âWell, if youâre sure.â Crouching down, he held out his hand for the dog to sniff before patting him on the head. âIâm sure he takes good care of you.â
âTim? Yes. Yes please. I havenât seen you in so long. Missed that cheeky face of yours!â
âIt has been a while, hasnât it? How you doing Cleo?â Stepping in to give a hand, he couldnât help but have a smile on his face.
âIâm such a clutz, I donât deserve someone so handsome helping me.â
Tim smiled, hoping that his cheeks werenât as rosy as they felt. âHey, youâre a pretty clutz, so you get all the help you want. Iâm Tim. Here, let me take that.â
âNah, wouldnât want to risk you getting your hands dirty or something.â
âOh donât worry about me, Iâm used to getting my hands dirty sometimes. Really, itâs no trouble. Are you sure you donât need a hand?â
âWhat? Oh, uh, no. No thank you.â His thumb furiously flicked at the lighter, so fast that it didnât have the chance to spark up, even though it was in perfect working order. âActually⌠any chance you have a lighter? Just, uhâ Just to borrow.â
Tim peered at the guy in front of him, watching him struggle to light his cigarette. âUm, hold on.â Searching in his pockets, he found the lighter that heâd found discarded on a table in the pub when he was collecting glasses. âHere you go mate.â He handed over the lighter before frowning slightly, asking with genuine concern in his voice. âAre you alright? You seem a litteâŚfrantic?â

âPlease. Went a bit overboard wiâ tha shoppinâ today. âEy, donât go peepinâ into any oâ tha bags, though. Anâ I donât want ya nickinâ any oâ me new shoes.â
Looking at the bags that Imogen was laden down with, he couldnât help but laugh. âI think overboard is the understatement of the year. Ok, ok, I promise I wonât.â Leaning down he took most of the bags from the girl, sharing them out evenly between his hands. âSo how are you doing? I heard about the boat party.â Eventually, after recovering from his own drunken mishaps, heâd heard through the great Stamford grapevine. Part of him had wanted to visit her in hospital, but he couldnât bring himself to do it. He figured Stephen would be there, worrying over her and their unborn baby, and he wasnât sure that was something he wanted to see. He knew now that he had to move on and thatâs what he was doing.
âOh, thatâd be great, thanks. I study law and the amount of books we need is ridiculous.â
âLaw, wow.â Glancing at the thick text books heâd just taken into his own hands, his eyes widened slightly. âSounds pretty intense.â Falling into step beside the guy, he let the conversation continue. Heâd always been brought up to help out anyone that seemed like they needed it. âIâm Tim by the way.â Juggling the books slightly, he stuck out his free hand.
