Go To London They Said....
Ok SO! Today marks five months since I moved to London and I just thought I’d tell you a few things I’ve learned since moving to the land of the Tube, Asda and Nandos.
I tell a lie, London is amazing, I’ve learned more about diversity in these short few months here than I did in the 22 years back home, where diversity could only be found in the Ethnic food isle in Tesco. So my three biggest lessons I’ve learned over here are:
Appreciate your personal space.
When you get up in the morning, stretch, run around, dance, basically do anything to fill up the room because as soon as you set foot outside that front door, you become a sardine, congrats. A good example of just how many people are in London can be seen from a time when I took the tube home after work. I bought a Kit Kat for the train home, on said train…it was so packed that someone elses body heat melted the bar. but I still ate it dun’worry, aint nobody got money to throw out a Kit Kat chunky, which brings me to my next point.
Money, or the lack of.
In the famous words of Paris Hiltons’ tshirt ‘stop being poor’. BITCH I WISH! When you come to London, be prepared for you wallet to be filled to the brim with….air..and not much else. I’m pretty sure theres a tumble weed blowing around in my bank account somewhere. Rent, food, transport, drinking, socialising are extremely expensive here, in good news though, breathing is free, so enjoy! One money saving tip I could pass on is, drink at home or get absolutely LOADED in Wetherspoons before you go to one of the various over-priced hipster bars that’ll give you a lovely cocktail for a weeks wage.
Enjoy the little things in life (or free things)
In all honesty, coming to a strange new place, where you know nobody has a way of making you look at the world differently. You have to push yourself very hard to get out there and meet people. Once you’re out there you will meet some of the very best people you could meet, because no matter how weird and obscure you are, theres a group for you. If you’re not the social type, there is PLENTY of apps to do the people-finding for you, like MeetUp, or Facebook groups. I went on SO many free outings to museams and other little days out and met so many cool people, apart from one time when one of the guys in the meetup got awful Diarrhoea and I said I would go to Boots for him, but went home instead, never heard from him since.
But so far, so good. If you’re new to London, or born and bred here hit me up!
