HI I'M ROCKY and I make webcomics. This blog is basically 99.9% OCs. I am big shipping trash for them so much of the art you see will be of them smooching their designated soul mates.
⚠️WARNING⚠️
This blog is 18+ and is intended for an adult audience. While I am not planning on straight up sharing NSFW, my art does occasionally touch on mature topics, make suggestive jokes, and contain sexual themes and images. I am not comfortable interacting with minors.
That being said, PLEASE make sure you read my FAQ and boundaries before sending in an ask. ESPECIALLY read my boundaries before making any fan art of my OCs (which I am totally okay with - just read my boundaries first)

Been watching a lot of zombie related stuff the past couple two days and realized that because of the way Slayer Drive works with messing around with a person's blood to work overtime, Jack would be immune to being bitten.
Farm Boy's body would be absolutely covered in battle scars from run ins with hordes but he'd still be kicking and his usual self.
I also imagine that Nana, if bitten, would become a zombie but she wouldn't be rabid like your typical one. She wouldn't be able to talk anymore but she'd still be able to communicate through sounds (which Jack is used to already since Nana isn't the most verbal person sometimes).
She wouldn't attack anyone unless they try to harm her or Jack. Honestly I see her as becoming more protective over him than anything. And because he can't catch the virus, there's no fear of accidentally infecting him if they kiss or something.
In a zombie modern au, it'd def follow Jack and Nana trying to find some cure for Nana or at the very least a safe haven so people don't try to kill her and zombies don't totally just tear Jack apart.
Nana loves to show people who her farm boy belongs to.
Also I was initially gonna use some random NPC designs for this comic but decided it'd be easier, a little more interesting, to use Ashe's stepsisters Brook and Clover...SO I GUESS THIS COMIC DOUBLES AS THEIR PUBLIC DEBUT AHAHAHA
They're big fan girls of Charming, with their affections unfortunately trickling down to Jack since whenever he's in the kingdom, Charming tends to make a beeline to him to bother him.
It's less of a genuine crush though and more of them just finding him attractive, though they still very much want to marry Charming. I'd say they want to have their cake and eat it too...meaning Brook moreso sees side piece potential in Jack while Charming is the main meal.
Nana knows her man is a full course dinner plated JUST for her and she'll be damned if anyone else tries to steal a bite.
Do you have model sheets for each individual character in your comics? I'm trying to determine whether or not to make some for my own cast and its a litte nervewracking.
I only have genuine model sheets of Jack and Nana and that's purely so I can commission people for them.

And just go off that and past comic panels and art I've done of an OC to redraw them again in comic.
I should state I work on the logic of "I am the only one working on this comic and there's no point and making more work for myself making whole detailed sheets that will become outdated due to my constantly shifting style"
Crystal is a very funny Beanstalked character to have people ask about because people wanna know why she isn't pale as hell but they also are scared of sounding racist so they have to get creative in how they can ask politely
THERE IS a lore reason and it's just because her mother didn't ask for her to have white skin, red lips, and black hair when she was born like the original tale, she just asked for her to live a long life since her mother wasn't the healthiest and passed during childbirth.
The irl reason is because I grew up without knowing the original tale of Snow White where it emphasized her appearance. I was just used to her being known as the fairest of them all since that's what pissed the queen off. And because Beanstalked characters are based off what bits of the tale stuck with me as a kid, Crystal is known as being very pretty instead of being pale.
It's a similar reason as to why Jack goes up the beanstalk once in Beanstalked even though in many of the original versions of the tale, Jack goes up multiple times before the giant comes after his ass. I grew up used to a version of the tale where Jack went up once, stole all the giant's stuff, and bailed day one.
I think it's important, when working on a loose adaptation or inspired retelling, to focus on stuff that stuck out to you when you were small and heard a fairy tale for the first time because that's ultimately what winds up making stuff more interesting and genuine instead of just doing what everyone else does. Not that there's anything bad with choosing a popular approach to a tale - "Prince Charming is a prick" is a very over done trope at this point and I still enjoy it because there's some fun to be had in writing it. It's just that there's some bits and pieces you might emphasis that other people didn't think about with their own versions of a fairy tale.
It helps keep the entire fairy tale reimagining genre from getting stale.

Sorry if this is intrusive but I've been reading your webcomics and I love the love you put into them and the people that read them! I was wondering how you garnered attention for your webcomics (beanstalked, etc.)
Thank you!
The way I got and get people to read my webcomics...is by being unhinged and obsessive over my own stories and characters for a solid decade. That's really all I do because I genuinely suck at plugging myself.
I just never stop posting about my comics, especially Beanstalked. I am a constant yapper when it comes to my characters. Turns out that at some point, people stop scrolling past your rambles and start to tune in out of curiosity.
I didn't get a large interactive audience until like...2022 when I started posting Glitter and Guilt stuff...and I've been online since the 2010s so it's been a hot minute before people started to actually notice my stuff.
I really don't have any other advice than "enjoy what and who you create" because that's what wound up working for me, but I imagine other bigger webcomic artists have better tips to get attention faster. I merely rewired my brain so I get hyped over my own stuff like it's an already existing franchise and that energy ends up infecting others.
Ahdgsah Totally valid and sorry if my last ask was off key, I love all your characters and the work you do. For something lighthearted, did Jack or nana have to deal with any cow shenanigans with malt for how cows are basically grass puppies and get into all kinds of shenanigans
Malt is pretty well behaved (for being a cow), but she can be a wee bit mischievous when it comes to Jack and his feelings for Nana since she knows how timid Jack can be.
There's been times she's "accidentally" bumped into Jack while he's talking to Nana so he's closer to her. And other times she'll find flowers while out grazing for Jack to give to Nana (she likes to act like a wingman...a wingcow if you will)

Today is the 11th anniversary of the first time I drew these two together! That means I've been drawing these two being mushy officially for over a decade now...which is crazy to think about.
I wanted to keep the art for them this year really simple. If you wanna learn how exactly Red Beans came to be, I'll leave my big ole' history dump under the read more (as well as the original pic this is a redraw of)
Back in 2015, when I was in high school and working on Beanstalked, I first drew Jack and Nana together on May 10th. However, it wasn't QUITE the beginning of their romance yet - it was still very much platonic in intention because I hadn't even decided on WHO I wanted Jack to end up with exactly.
When I first came up with Beanstalked and was writing and designing characters, there actually wasn't even a Little Red Riding Hood yet. Obviously, one was planned to exist in story since you can't really have a giant fairy tale mashup without one but I was struggling HARD with coming up with a design that actually stood out from all the other Reds in every other fairy tale adaptation and retelling.
This means Nana didn't even exist in the old and outdated Beanstalked chapters I made prior to 2015 which... means Jack didn't have a love interest even while I was actively updating the comic. And I REALLY wanted to give him one. He just had the vibe of a protagonist who needed SOMEONE romantically. It's hard to put into words other than comparing it to when you find a broken piece of something, only to realize it's half of another thing and you need to find that thing to make the broken pieces whole.
ANYWAYS - I tried plenty of match ups for Jack. I tried Goldilocks, I tried the Swan Princess, I tried a male Little Red Riding Hood with heavy yandere vibes (listen I was desperate for a unique character design for Little Red), HELL I EVEN TRIED PINOKUNI!
Nobody stuck. The chemistry was either lackluster, bland as hell, or too awkward to work out. And during that time, I had made my third and final attempt at a Little Red Riding Hood design. This design winded up becoming the Nana we know today.
Around the time I had ironed out her initial design (before I made her a Lupine), I drew this little picture of her and Jack dancing.
It was meant to be a cute little moment of their friendship since at this time, I was still trying to figure out who to pair Jack with. Nana WAS initially written to have a small one-sided crush on Jack because I always found that kind of dynamic cute, but I didn't intend to go much further than that...
...farm boy had other intentions though because I kept finding myself drawing cute little moments between them together.
💬 0 🔁 8 ❤️ 8 · I started to notice how nearly everytime I draw Najla I end up drawing her alongside Jack...so I put her in a jar to solve
Sidenote: It's incredibly funny to read old me's posts about these two before I fully fell down the Red Beans rabbit hole. (also Nana's name used to be Najla so just a heads up). I really was doing my best to avoid becoming the shipping trash I am today just because I was too embarrassed back then about drawing romance art. I was so damn determined to draw cool and awesome story stuff and character designs. OH how things have changed...
ANYWAYS BACK TO THE STORY - I fully believe this was Jack choosing his own love interest instead of waiting on me to give him one. I NEVER FELT MYSELF DRAWING CUTE MOMENTS BETWEEN HIM AND THE OTHER CHARACTERS I TRIED TO PUT HIM WITH BEFORE but when Nana came along, I just COULDN'T STOP DRAWING THEM TOGETHER!
AND I HAVEN'T STOPPED.
I HAVEN'T STOPPED FOR 11 YEARS!!!
*Ahem* SO Eventually settled on giving them a ship name, Inukag style, by calling them Jajla...eventually I just decided that nicknames for ships were cuter and picked Red Beans for them instead since I wanted to make a reference to their fairy tales: Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk. It's incredibly funny that this moment led to my long running tradition of naming my OC ships after foods because I wasn't even thinking of food initially. It was just a massive coincidence that worked in my favor since I realized red beans were a thing.
I continued to draw them together, redesigned them together, and eventually rebooted the entire comic so them being together became more of a crucial plot point and not just a side piece to the meal. Nana even went from being a minor side character to part of the main team and a major player in the story itself...which is crazy now to look back on because it is so hard to imagine the Fabled Five NOT including Nana. (though it wasn't really called the Fabled Five back then)
Jack and Nana have remained an important part of my art journey since the day I drew them dancing together. They're the sole reason I got better at my art and are the biggest reasons I didn't abandon Beanstalked years ago and continue to work on it even today.
These two have also been wonderous help for me mentally and emotionally and have brought me many years of comfort just by them being together.
HERE'S TO 11 YEARS STRAIGHT OF DRAWING RED BEANS! I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO MANY MORE YEARS OF DRAWING THESE TWO MADLY IN LOVE!
WHO'S BAD? (Obviously not Jack because he's a good farm boy...or at least well meaning)
I'VE HAD THIS AS A WIP FOR MONTHS NOW and I finally got around to finishing it today. I both love and hate this outfit only because finding clear references of it is HELL and I eventually just gave up 😭
This pic also makes me imagine an eyecatch for a Beanstalked animated series but each one is based off an album cover from one of my favorite artists.
If theres a looney tunes style bit for nana and Jack rocky...is it not only fair pin, ashe and kao have their own looney tunes style bit👀
Nah, Jack and Nana are my faves so they get all the funny little relationship quirks since their dynamic is fun and nostalgic for me to write since Jack's timidness and Nana's bluntness make for more organic banter and goofs.
That's not to say my other relationships are boring and don't have little fun dynamics but Jack and Nana are basically my mascots so they get all the spoils and art. They also are just more connected to my heart than my other ships, which is why I can't simply copy and paste stuff I do with them into my other couples.

At this point it's just a Looney tunes style bit where Nana keeps trying to get Jack to pay some crumb of pervy attention to her boobs and him just missing every damn hint and opportunity in the book
