Things had been tense between mother and son recently, and she hoped that it might allow them time to clear the air. (She knew it was mostly her fault, her view on the downworlder and her actions that had pushed him away) 

maryse never found it easy to keep a secret from her family, but this was best kept private. never the less, it played on her mind. it’s the same reason she’s so strict with isabelle, why she’s never quite allowed herself to relax and be her mother. (onlookers may think otherwise, but maryse loves her daughter deeply, she’s just trying to keep her safe) because she’s constantly worried her secret will be exposed, and isabelle will be taken from her. especially since the return of valentine and his red headed daughter. worrying her lip, maryse rapped her knuckles against isabelle’s door.
