Coming from someone with 2 years(ish) of exp!
Stop stressing yourself about methods! Usualy making up your own method works alot better than following a method
There are plenty of methods out there, you'll find the perfect one <3
Try each method for a week (not including breaks)
^ if you don't feel many symptoms or any interactions with things/people from your DR, try a different method
^ once you feel you tried plenty methods. Reuse old methods you have tried
There are many sleep and awake methods, try to find one that you can fit in your schedule or one that helps you better
I find and tend to see alot of people shift when they are tired
Meditation before shifting (either awake or asleep method) helps alot for shifting but is also optional
^ meditation helps clear the mind and helps you focus on your DR
Don't stress yourself for not shifting, if someone shifted by sleeping you can too <3
Take care of your body, eat well and drink water
^ clearly optional but it tends to help shifters
You'll be in your comfort characters arms soon enough
It's okay to have multiple DR's that you want to shift to!
Permashifting is real and we all understand you want to do that
If you do end up shifting and coming back, you'll leave with a bit of trauma no matter the DR
If you plan on shifting and returning, explore different DR's!
If you plan on permashifting choose your DR wisely, you may regret it and may want to shift to another DR
^ many use what is called a "metaverse" basically a bunch of DR's bunched up into one big DR
Although highly not recommended, you can shift to a horror movie
Sometimes it isn't the method, it's the subminual
Scripting is optional! But many methods need a script for it to work
Scripting helps write things down about your DR instead of having it all in your head
^ many shifters make their scripts as detailed as possible (including me) As it helps visualize more (if you can visualize)
When/if scripting try not to add to many bad things (you'd tend to focus more on the bad rather than the good)
There are many scripting styles, from pictures to essay long details.
It's optional but many script they hear and or smell certain things
^ helps to know if/when you are close
^also helps if you script something you know by heart, or something you'll never smell/hear while in your shifting area
Waiting rooms is a room / safe space shifters use to add in any extra details before actually shifting
^ they are also optional spaces
I recommend if you use a WR to use a area where you feel comfortable
^ many use a nighttime apartment in the city, or a beach view
You can script how many characters you meet in your WR
^ don't script as many as this area is needed to be quiet for you to think
Once you feel comfortable and feel you have added all the details you may safely shift
^ many people have different methods to shift in their WR, from opening a door to sipping a water or even "opening " their eyes
If using a sleeping method, get yourself tired. You'll raise your chances of shifting as your mind isn't racing (for visualizing)
^ this also makes you able to think about your DR
It's best to think about your name, the place your shifting too, your S/O ect
Many say it's not okay to script force someone to be inlove with you
^ others say it's fine as there is a reality where you and your S/O are in love/dating
If meditating, use one for however long you want, but recommend is 5-15 minutes
^ After mediating drink water, take deep breaths , belive you can shift. Then do your method
From MY experience, while you are getting yourself tired, do stuff that reminds you of your DR
^ drawing characters, scripting about them, day dreaming about them, viewing pictures or reading fanfics
^ "why do that?" While you are tired you mostly think about what you did before you got tired, if you did plenty stuff you'll remember
^ much easier to visualize if the only thing you can think about is that one fanfic or that one cutesy picture
^don't rush yourself to shift everyday, breaks are recommended from 1-3 days to a couple weeks
^ sometimes on breaks use overnight subliminals (if using a sleeping method)
Make sure you are shifting in a NICE quiet area where you won't be disturbed
^ you'll be so close to shifting, you see bright lights, hear your comfort characters voices, until someone/something wakes you up
Half of the symptoms you feel are just the body falling asleep
Drink water as most tend to feel very thirsty after a attempt at shifting
^ recommended to have 2-3 bottles of water near your shifting area.
If you use a quiet subminual use the head band headphones (got one on Amazon for 16 bucks and it works wonders)
It's recommended that you attempt a shift when you feel happy/on a happy day
^ if you attempt shifting while you feel sad you'll attract those things toward you
Everyone's shifting attemp is different, don't go around copying everyone's attemp and what they did
Shifting on full moons helps
^many shifters attempts to shift on full moon with positive energy, try to shift during a full moon and you'll feel their energy
^which is why you'd need to be happy and not have something dragging you down
Try not to let shifting be the only thing you think about. Just let it come to you
