nico’s  thin  frame  barely  covers  percy’s,  and  though  nico  is  quick,  percy  is,  too.  he  freezes  nico,  by  clenching  fingers  just  slightly,  water  in  the  human  body  holding  it  still  for  a  few  seconds;  percy’s  able  to  use  that  time  to  roll  atop  him,  and  pin  him  down  properly,  before  the  class.  the  hushed  sounds  as  they  watch  two  properly  (percy  is  willing  to  use  that  word  loosely.  nico  taught  itself,  sure,  but  percy  was  also  taught  by  a  suicidal  seventeen  year  old  and  not  an  adult  or  real  soldier.  the  demigods  get  by  however  they  can,  right?  RIGHT!)  trained  HEROES  prove  what  it  means  to  really  WANT  IT.  

by  it?  well.  percy’s  sure  they  have  different  definitions.

right  now,  what  HE  really  wants  is  to  get  nico  to  wave  his  white  flag.  to  admit  defeat  under  him  (or  over  him.  he’s  not  picky.  really,  he’s  an  equal  opportunist.).  the  cold  of  nico’s  skin  is  nice;  stark  against  his  own.  flushed  warm  from  exertion  and  excitement,  it  helps  calm  the  sea’s  rage  that  lives  within  him,  into  a  tide  that’s  just  a  LITTLE  violent  today.  and  maybe  a  little  attention  seeking,  too.  particularly,  nico’s.  

PERCY JACKSON IS LIKE THE TIDE WHEN IN CLOSE QUARTERS COMBAT. he is abrupt, crashing into his opponent like the unpredictable waters of the ocean, and SUFFOCATING in all senses of the word. it disorients nico if he fails to act quick enough, the son of hades victorious in battles that allow it ample room for SPACE.

in  front  of  the  class  of  students,  young  and  all  impressionable,  and,  YES,  in  demigod  101  (thank  YOU  very  much!),  nico  proves  why  he’s  a  formidable  opponent,  and  an  even  better  sparring  -  mate.  they’d  always  been  dexterous;  nimble  and  lithe  in  every  way  of  the  word,  but  even  percy  finds  that  he’s  stumbling,  needing  a  second  himself  to  catch  up  to  its  quick  movements.  he  bends  at  the  knee  where  he’s  been  kicked,  a  noise  at  the  sharp  feeling  of  heavy  combat  boot  landing  on  skin.  THAT’S  GOING  TO  BRUISE  LATER.    

a  grin,  almost  like  a  snarl,  forms  on  his  face  at  nico’s  words,  and  he  shrugs,  taunting  and  shark - like.  “could’a  used  more  sparkle,  don’t  you  think?”  percy  quips,  rolling  his  shoulder  back  as  he  stays  on  one  knee,  sea  -  green  eyes  stalking  nico  like  a  predator  would,  it’s  prey.  

he  licks  his  bottom  lip,  before  leaning  his  weight  on  his  right  leg,  the  one  kneeling,  and  makes  it  seem  as  though  he’s  going  to  stand.  instead,  though,  at  the  last  second,  he  uses  his  own  ability  to  force  his  blood  forward  and  push  himself  past  limits  that  human’s  SHOULDN’T,  and  he  LUNGES  at  nico.  tackles  it,  landing  on  top,  and  using  his  own  weight  to  pin  it  down  to  the  ground  with  a  feral  smile.  

IN THE MIDST OF THEIR TENSION, NICO ALMOST FORGETS THEIR AUDIENCE. it isn’t until percy kneels and hushed gasps fill the air that the realization dawns, and nico’s head snaps to the source of the sound with a cold enough gaze that the campers freeze. it isn’t an intentional stink eye, of course, but with the way percy conducts himself, nico can’t help but feel vindictive. percy never failed to bring out the animalistic nature of nico in moments like this; it made the kin of hades feel SAVAGE.

❛ i’ll show you sparkle, jackson, ❜ nico hisses, its head snapping back to percy’s stance with the annoying sounding of his voice. unknowingly, he had just given the demigods watching their second major lesson on what not to do — DON’T TAKE YOUR EYES OFF YOUR OPPONENT FOR ANY REASON.

Somehow, Jason sincerely doubts that. Maybe not as much as he would have before he'd seen first hand what Camp Half Blood considers fun, of course, which — even when he'd had no memories of home had still felt like an assault on the senses at the worst of it. Now, of course, with New Rome's strict order and sense of duty both mostly restored in his mind and available literally in front of him, he's well aware of how different the atmosphere.

Still, War Games brings out the rowdiness of Camp Jupiter, and Jason can't imagine that it's Nico's favorite thing. He could always be wrong ! But he's always erred on the side of caution and with the people he's come to consider family, there is no stemming the protective worry.

❛ QUIET? who in their right mind would want that? ❜ even as sarcasm drips from nico’s tone like honey from a beehive, it remains well-intended. sure, he wasn’t a fan of the noise, or the unpleasant way in which the demigods packed together in the stands, or the entire concept of war games themselves, but jason had still gone out of his way to invite them, and was actively having fun. what kind of debby–downer would nico be to not at least try to force itself to enjoy it?

❛ isn’t a part of the fun seeing how long you can go until your hearing gives out? from what i’ve gathered, at least. ❜ nico’s eyes squint under the blazing afternoon sun, before their head turns to survey the crowd: jason’s offer ringing in his ears. ❛ wouldn’t be much different from the rowdy bunch back east. ❜
