some work in progress:
I figured out how to animate the dialogue sprites
a drawing I made for a project that I’m working on. it was originally just meant to be a simple drawing demonstrating how you can use the horizon to convey a sense of height and distance. But then I decided to use it to experiment with inking, and then I got carried away.
The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate DestiMii
I’ve mentioned before that I feel confident in my ability to draw heads but those neurons seem to completely short-circuit the moment I tell myself that I have to add a body. so I've been trying to force myself to draw more bodies to try and get better at it. and it has worked. I have been slowly getting more confident at it. but remembering that most of my public work has been me intentionally exploring things that I’m not confident with does get to my anxieties sometimes.

this illustration is called "Vue circulaire des montagnes qu'on découvre du sommet du Glacier de Buet" ("Circular view of the mountains seen from the summit of the Buet Glacier" ) by Horace Bénédict de Saussure for his book “Voyages dans les Alpes : précédés d'un essai sur l'histoire naturelle des environs de Genève” (“Travels in the Alps : preceded by an essay on the natural history of the area around Geneva “). it is the oldest known example of what people would nowadays call “fisheye perspective”, depicting the alps with a downwards facing view. having been first published in 1779 it predates actual fisheye lenses by over a hundred years.
I edited it to try and make the proportions of the canvas relative to the drawing match what you would expect from azimuthal perspective:
I then did some googling and found this software from an old reddit post. it converts maps to different projection methods, originally intended for worldbuilding projects.
I put in my edit and converted it from an azimuthal projection to an equirectangular projection, giving me this:
I touched it up a bit:
ultrakill cyber grind in Vue circulaire des montagnes qu'on découvre du sommet du Glacier de Buet:
I've started reading the first issue of the first Swedish comic book, and one thing I noticed is that Goofy has the name "Jan Rissel" in this early Swedish translation of Disney comics, instead of the name he's known by in Sweden nowadays, "Långben" (meaning "Long-legs"). I don't know if "Jan Rissel" is supposed to be some kind of pun, or just a name that someone thought sounded funny.
However, I did some quick online searching, and found an anecdote regarding the name change: Apparently there was a young Swedish boy who was actually named Jan Rissel, and after the comics began publishing, he got bullied in school for having the same name as this silly cartoon character. So his parents wrote to the publisher and complained, and the publisher actually went ahead and changed the name of the character to the one he has today.
