ingwionthevanya:
Ingwion was thinking for a second about this question. âHearing,â he decided. âI think I rely on that the most. But seeing is just after it.â That was a honest answer. He could hear pretty well, which was useful for him as a singer. He was thinking about the matter for a moment. Why did Melkor ask about it?
âHearingâ, he repeated silently with the hint of a smile on his lips, âThen close your eyes and listen carefully to the sounds around you. You want to discover the truth and see beyond illusions? Then you have to sharpen your senses first.â Slowly Melkor closed his eyes as well and with a turn of his hand, the dark Vala vanished into a mist of shadows.
Ingwionâs eyes widened. He of course had seen Ainur disappear, but it was still amazing him. Then he closed his eyes and focused on his hearing, listening closely to each and every sound around him. That made his spirit calm down, listening to the sounds of the nature was always helping him relax.
Without causing any sound, Melkor reappeared right behind Ingwion and as he spoke, his voice was barely louder than a whisper: "Listen to the song the birds are singing, to the rustling of the wind, and the far-off waterfalls." He took a step back and stared into the deep forest for a while, before he added: "Can you hear that one tune that doesn't fit in with the rest?"
â You see, madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push! â
The Valaâs words were heard with twitching ears as keen eyes watched intently. âHow should I know to believe your word? You are nothing but vile.â Celegorm held his ground and remained unmoving as he spoke. What the otherâs intentions were, he knew not, but he refused to give in.

hasty-riser:
It was impossible to move under the weight of that large hand. The Vala himself was an impressive size and it was no surprise at his strength. âCan you not handle words from an elf?â Even with the blade so close to his bloodied lips that he could taste it, Celegorm did not cease. However he did grunt, struggling to fill his lungs with air under the great weight. âWhat shall you do? Cut out my tongue?â A loud laugh as his head tipped back. âEven with no tongue I will not surrender. Beat me, break me, I do not care. I belong to no one.â
A flash of anger enlightened the dark depths of Melkor's eyes as he pressed the knife further down, until blood painted the metal crimson. "Everything can be broken.", he whispered through gritted teeth, "Bones, Vows, Bonds, Minds. I'm curious what will be the first to shatter.. Is it your body or your mind?" Slowly he moved the dagger lower and lower, while his hand still rested above Celegorm's heart.Â
The rhythm of the beating heart nearly drove him insane and the urge to rip it out of the elf's chest grew with each of his sharp breaths.

A dark chuckle escaped the Valaâs lips, as he listened to the Noldoâs bold words. âYou sound exactly like your noble grandfather.â, he said with cruel serenity, âBrave words of a great man and still he died moments after he opened his mouth.â While Melkor walked towards the heavy door, the smile on his lips slowly vanished, replaced by a cold emotionless expression. âNo one will come to rescue you. Youâre on your own. How long can you endure this?â
â I will endure. You can guarantee that, Moringotto. How long can you put up with the frustrationâŚhow long until you realize the futility of your efforts? I will not be broken..not in one yearâŚand not in 30. I swear this to you. â
"You should be careful with your oaths.", he turned around to stare at his prisoner with slight amusement, yet also a disturbing darkness in his eyes, "The last one you've sworn, cursed your whole family and bound all of you to your inevitable doom.. A vow can bring nothing but pain."

Tilion the guardian of the moonÂ
Melkor watched him in silence for a moment and though the elfâs face was turned towards the wall, the Vala could still see the look in his eyes. âI will destroy you and day by day youâll lose a little bit more of the person you once were, until thereâs nothing left.â
âYouâŚâ He growled, a second wind seeming to fan the withering flames in his heart. âYou are assuming that I wonât be able to resist any of it. That I will just sit here and wilt like a delicate flower taken out away from the light of the stars. And you are dearly mistaken, Morgoth. I am not a flower, I am a Ăoldo! And you will never see my ruin!â
A dark chuckle escaped the Vala's lips, as he listened to the Noldo's bold words. "You sound exactly like your noble grandfather.", he said with cruel serenity, "Brave words of a great man and still he died moments after he opened his mouth." While Melkor walked towards the heavy door, the smile on his lips slowly vanished, replaced by a cold emotionless expression. "No one will come to rescue you. You're on your own. Then you have to sharpen your senses first." Slowly Melkor closed his eyes as well and with a turn of his hand, the dark Vala vanished into a mist of shadows.
A soft smile formed on Melkorâs lips. Of course he could remember those days. The world had felt warmer back then, more inviting, more exciting and full of passion and confidence they had explored every part of it together.
âI know it were just clouds, still it was like creating a little world of our own, without limits, without rules, but just our own ideas and imaginations. I always knew that we could achieve everything as long as we would be together.â
Manwe smiled as he saw the emotions on Melkorâs face. Yes, it was a joyful memory, them both together, singing and doing everything together. âIt was fun because we were working together. Now we will do things together again. Eat ice cream, make funny shapes in the sky, throw rain-filled clouds here and thereâŚâ In his heart there was no doubt the joy of the old day was again theirs, they could be happy together.
For a moment, a fleeting moment Melkor lost himself in the memory, begging for it to stay a little longer, as the images slowly vanished and the world around him crashed down on him once more. "Everything is different now, brother.", he muttered and the sudden urge to tell Manwe everything that tormented his soul, that tortured what had remained of his heart, was almost killing him.
In elder days the world seemed to consist of more colours, more tunes and Melkor wondered what it was that had changed so much throughout the years: The world around him or he himself.

Mandos simply laughed dryly. âAll I know about our Father is that he does things for a reason⌠everything he does will come full circle. At least, thatâs how I see it.â
The dry laughter echoed through the darkness, sending chills down Melkorâs spine, while his eyes were fixated on the cold chains around his wrists. âFull circle..â, he repeated silently, âYou really think thereâs a reason for everything?â
ââŚFull circle? Yes. Like the cycle of life and death⌠the cycle of reincarnation. Everything happens for a reason. Even if those who will never discover their reason⌠it is embedded into their subconscious.â
Then he turned to face Melkor, dark eyes glimmering right at the chained Vala. ââŚDo you know your reason?â
âI thought I would.â, and for once in his life the dark Vala spoke the absolute truth, the horrible painful truth and every word that left his mouth, every broken thought, made him feel lost and defeated. âA small part of me still does, yet-â He fell silent for a moment, before a desperate chuckle escaped his pale lips, "It doesn't matter now, does it? I mean, I'm imprisoned here for eternity."

"You talked to me of freedom, but is not domination your main interest? What are you exactly trying to achieve through chaos? I may not have your intelligence, O mighty one, but I am no fool. I shall not be enslaved by your lies, and I need more that your words to give you my trust."
âPeace and order are nothing but a mere illusion, a lie the Valar want everyone to believe in order to chain the world and to control it.â, Melkor replied with an almost mad glow in his dark eyes, âI want to break these chains and unleash the power that dwells within every being on this world. So ask yourself, Lilith, on which side do you want to stand in the war that lies ahead of us?â
Melkor leaned against one of the high walls, his piercing eyes following her every step and as silence fell between them again, a somehow heavy silence, he closed his eyes to take a deep breath. âHow do you know Arda would not survive it?â, he asked with still closed eyes, âSure a war would mark Arda, would change and scar it, but the world we made is strong enough to face every turn its fate would take. Give Arda a chance to drown in chaos and to come back shaped and stronger.âÂ
Slowly the Vala opened his eyes again, those black eyes that were as dark, as deep and as mysterious as the depths of the void and with silent steps he closed the distance between them. "Lilith, donât you want to free the world with me?â
The spirit couldnât help but walked backwards, keeping her own dark eyes upon the impressive silhouette in front of her, and this voice, his voice, like a threatening storm, rumbling in the air with a  power she could feel now, with a tangible intensity. âHow could I trust you?â She asked in a whisper, almost tempted by his offer, and yet reluctant. âWhat you call freedom, what is it truly? Is it the same freedom Iâve been longing for? Or just another illusion? An illusion which wouldnât be better than the one the Valar imposedâŚâ
Gathering what remained of courage, she looked into his eyes, as if to find a truth, as if, thorugh this eyes, she could be given an epiphany, and answers. âSo you want me to follow you, hm ? To join your servants and to become one of them?â Shaking her head, she chuckled bitterly. âI might have fallen long ago, just like you did, but my Fall isnât like yours. Our motives are different, and I didnât escape from these chains only to be chained again by another so called king.â
"What makes you think I would chain you? Of what use would you be for me in chains?â, his tone was low and each word that left his mouth was laced with sweet, yet deadly venom, as he stared into her eyes with silent fascination, "Storms aren't meant to be tamed." He stepped towards her, slowly and silently, never taking his dark eyes off her, while a slight grin started to form on his bloodless lips. âYou canât trust me, Lilith, and probably never should, but trust my aim, trust my power. Donât you long for a world without limits, without barriers more than you desire anything else? A world that can change and evolve and grow?âÂ
As if to restrain himself from doing something, he clenched his fists and stopped moving right in front of her, only a heartbeat away. "Stay with me and partake in freeing the world or leave. It's your decision." His cold breath ghosted over her pale cheeks, as he slowly exhaled, waiting for her to speak, or to move.
âKeep your hope, if thatâs what will keep you sane.â, his expression was calm as he spoke, but his eyes couldnât hide the anger he felt about that hope she clung to, this illusion that shielded her from his poison, âYour people are safe, I wonât break my word..â But I will break you sooner or later, he thought silently, while he pushed the door open and stepped outside. Ithiliel had a strong heart, a strong will, but was that enough to fight Mekorâs alluring words, his manipulation and cruelty? Only time could tell. âSomeone will bring you new clothes and Iâll see you in two hours in my throne room. Donât be late..â, and with those words he left.
In quick steps, the Vala crossed the large corridors, meeting not one living soul on the way through his fortress and as he entered the throne room, the giant hall was dark and silent. Fires started to flicker close to the high walls on both sides, filling the darkness with a warm light, while Melkor walked towards his throne. All these years ago, silence and darkness were the Valaâs constant and sometimes only companions, but the void had left scars and scratches on his soul, far worse than all the wounds he had suffered in his long war against the world and now the black stillness and the solitude were driving him insane. With slightly trembling hands Melkor finally sat down on his throne and while his eyes lingered on the dancing flames, he took a deep breath.
It was the thundering boom of the heavy door that caused her to jump as she did, her nerves frayed and wits at an end. She knew not how much longer her soul could withstand the darkness creeping in every corner, but for the sake of her people, she must. Collapse she did, upon the cold stone floor; her only companion the tears that slid tiredly down porcelain cheeks. Two hours she had to rest and gain enough strength for whatever he may have in store for he this evening. She knew he would be merciless and brutal, for was she not now living the nightmares she so oft heard as a child. Such a sheltered life it now seemed she had, but it was now her duty to remain strong so others could remain at peace.
Her time for rest passed much too quickly before she was forced to her feet by renewed will. With shoulders back she pushed open the door, grunting in surprise at the weight before knocking loudly at the next door she found. An escort. She thought sarcastically. How casual a term to use in a place of shadow. When the door opened she said no words, only stood with back rigid and head held high. The being before her glared from grotesque features, though she chose to ignore the fluttering of unease rising to her throat. Instead she follow the beast in silence, trying in vain to remember all the turns so she need not an escort again.
The silence around him was heavy, almost suffocating and yet the hours went by quickly, for mere hours were just a short blink compared to the ages he had spend alone in the emptiness of the void, compared to eternity. Locked up in his prison, the Vala had waited for the moment to finally take revenge and now that the time had arrived, nothing would be able to stop him.
Melkor snapped out of his thoughts as the heavy door opened and a dark figure stepped into the hall. It was a Maia and he was cloaked into a long greyish robe that was adorned with small silver patterns. His eyes were hidden behind a veil, his hair was long and white, displaying a stark contrast to the darkness of the room and with a sinister elegance he moved towards his master. As he spoke, his tone was low and quiet, as if no one else was supposed to hear his words and while Melkor listened in silence, his black eyes lit up with a cruel delight. "A welcomed message indeed.", the Vala whispered with a vicious smile, "I guess it is about time for us all to return home, isn't it?"Â
Before the Maia could reply something, the doors at the end of the long hall opened once more and as Melkor spotted his guest in the entrance, he rose from his throne.
