I’m watching muppet christmas carol for the first time and I want everyone to know that in the opening credits, Michael Caine (who, keep in mind is literally playing the protagonist) gets third billing after Kermit the Frog and Gonzo the Great

People get annoyed with older comics for being too campy or whatever but I think modern comics have really lost their sense of the absurd. Nothing makes this more obvious than how Joker has been treated in recent years. Like Joker has ALWAYS been one of Batmans most dangerous villains and he's done a lot of fucked up shit pre-N52 but that stuff used to pack a hell of a lot more of a punch than it does because it was a little fewer and far between. Like look at the impact of death IN the family vs death OF the family. ALSO he doesn't have bits anymore which used to add so much to his character. Like with the right dosage of absurdity it could either ramp up his villainy to terrifying heights or make something terrifying into something to laugh at. Now he's just some evil crazy guy. We've got a million of those. His bits were what made him stand out from the dozen other evil crazy guys. Now he's jut the fifth deranged serial killer with a weird face this week who tried to dissolve a bus full of schoolchildren in lava acid in gotham there's no panache
