Harley could hardly contain her glee as she marveled over everything she had found in the treasure trove that the passenger’s side held within it. It was a truly bizarre find.

“hey! you’re gettin’ your prints all over the place —“ worse yet, candy is still poking her nose into all of the goodies harley’s found ... while driving. she’s mindlessly picking up what looks like evidence for — a whole buncha somethin’! it’s shady, and candy is sure at least one crime’s been committed in this car ... besides the obvious.

cue a pause, a few (confused) blinks in rhythm with one another, before the blonde steps forward with her head tilted, braids hanging off to the side — “do you want me to stay with you?” she isn’t a fast learner, forgive her.

the smile slipped from her lips the second that she heard that name, she recognized that name. she never had the chance to meet tom houston’s wife and that wasn’t for a lack of trying, she knew how stanley would react if she even thought of tom. her smile would return in a matter of seconds, stumbling over her words.

“oh, i… i’ve heard so much about you, about your work…” she really hoped it didn’t appear that she was trying too hard here. ”it really is a pleasure to meet you.”

by becky’s sudden, shifted expression, the two women are on the same page. jane avoids the nurse’s gaze momentarily (she studies the clock for the first time since her arrival, and longs for it to tick faster.) when jane turns to face becky again, she too is wearing a smile, although hers is noticeably forced.

“thank you,” she comments dryly. jane has never hated how small their world really is until this night.

“oh, of course, there’s a whole lot to miss, if you know what i mean.” accompanied by a wink, his words were quick to exude a false confidence that he was sure even he would fall for if he believed it hard enough. and it was hard not to, paired with her encouragement.

his head snaps to attention when she mentions not returning to her home, his eyes meeting hers with more of disbelief than anything. he couldn’t say he met many people with that kind of dedication, especially so with the circumstances that brought her here, the circumstances that brought them together.

“is a friend all it takes to leave everything behind? hatchetfield is great and all, but a lotta people work like hell to get outta here.” and he didn’t blame her if she wanted to either, when it was proven that people tried to use her.

his words are followed by a giggle from lucy, as she raises one hand to her cheek — her skin is warm to the touch, and that fact flusters her.

“i don’t have much to leave behind. my parents are gone. jonathan is gone ... i didn’t have a wide social circle,” it wasn’t for a lack of trying on her parents’ part. having the right friends, the right causes to boast her social image would have done wonders to find lucy a groom earlier, but alas. she’s always been a flighty yet stubborn thing.
