They're not the only people working on it, but they're the main ones. A lot of people see The Hungering as an omen, a message from the gods. because how the fuck else would there be a lightning snail just running* loose around the place? And the message they're reading is 'it's time to start over.'

Something along the lines of they’re okay as long as magic isn’t being used at them/isn’t touching them? Familiars touching them might give them a nasty rash for a while.

Also wondering if, without the guardian magic somewhat regenerating them/keeping them alive from AITRPFT, if they’d need more help moving around. And if so, what getting and having a service animal (that is not a familiar) would look like for them.

Any big city is probably a bad place for Hope to live, because any group of people who can use magic generally will and that will cause a lot of ambient magic (aphotia and luminance being the most talked-about and notable examples, but they're not the only ones), and currently there's no way to filter that, because no one thinks that it could possibly be a problem.

It might take a lot of screwing around to get a non-magic service animal. If familiars are so prevalent, I'm not sure what the status of non-farming animal domestication is. Also there might be actual restrictions around having an actual dog or something because an actual animal is a lot more work than a familiar and a lot of people just... don't realize that. A lot more money, too.

On the bright side, since humans aren't made of magic the way guardians are, Hope's probably not suffering quite so much just by existing somehow.

She actually was one of the guards. She lost whatever special armor she had, though. Now she's just some pegasus lady trying to stop a giant magic snail from eating everything.

She has put herself in charge of training the princesses and (whatever the clones end up being), and aside from not giving like any positive gentle reinforcement she's doing a great job. there are others who can give the gentle encouragement though

they weren't actually guards. they were just friends with the erstwhile prince, and they all got into trouble often enough that they knew how to fight.

Error is pretty tall for a leporigens. Like the rest of her people, though, she is always moving and always interested in new things. and fast i cannot emphasize enough that she is really goddamn fast. She doesn't enjoy fighting like Cross, but she can take care of herself just fine.

i ask my brain for terrestrial creatures that like to swim and aren't frogs and my brain comes back with tigers. there are tiger people on the moonmoon. and if they don't get their twice-daily swims they're going to be SO pissed

They don't use that much magic in their day-to-day lives, especially compared to some other creatures, but they're fully capable. they just prefer to do things 'the old-fashioned way'.

They quite literally live in mud. Mud brick houses, specifically. They get very fancy with it, but not so fancy as for the houses to be like. unstable.

Who knows what element it was made of originally. It's absorbed so much of everything that it's pure lightning now, which makes it especially dangerous.

this is not a 1:1 scale. it's bigger than that. A lot bigger. and you can kinda see it's still huge. you see that little bit of blue circle under its butt? The blue circle that surrounds the little stage for the models? yeah.

It can't actually eat physical things, but it does "consume" the bodies of various magical or magic-using creatures (including but not limited to centaur) to absorb their magic. The lightning magic of its body kills its victims instantly, and their remains are stuck inside its body for a few days until it's bled them dry, at which point they're left just...wherever. They're usually burned to the point of being unrecognizable, also.

Theoretically, tipping its internal balance to one specific element should destroy it. However, it's so big and made of so much magic that that's actually really difficult to do, especially since it's got more than two competing elements in there (unlike the maelstrom). Even if it were a simple task, the instability would make it explode. And the explosion would be exponentially bigger than it.

And it's already huge.

Young 'princesses' who have lost their family and kingdom to 'The Hungering', a malformed familiar that's escaped its summoner's control and absorbs all forms of magic it can find. Predictably, it has a fixation on unicorns especially. It had been a problem for a while, but only recently became a huge threat, and by the time anyone realized it had already attacked the city.

Nightmare survived the initial attack and helped the girls get info on the thing, but ended up getting eaten a few months later. Now it's just the girls and some old guards. plus some guy.

I haven't decided what the clones are like here. Kind of considering some experimental magic/technology to make 'familiars' for centaurs, but functionally it created magic-infused clones? mmmm but then the clones would be more persistently hunted.

favorite activities include sleeping and taking lava baths. They can't stand the cold at all, and don't do any better with darkness. you thought you were scared of the dark as a kid? buddy you ain't got nothin on them. they hate it. And cold darkness? actual physical harm. So they usually live in desert areas, especially around volcanic activity.

They can get going pretty fast, but mostly they just want to chill out. much like the sprites.
