i doubt this is going to get much traction, as this is my first text post and frankly i'm not even sure if i'm going to explain this well enough to where it's remotely understood BUTTT i will try !!! does anyone feel odd about the fact that some people think abigail was 18 when she first joined the gang ? more so the fact that quite a few people believe this. now, i understand that it's not explicitely stated the age of when she joined the gang and in some ways, yes it can be up to interpretation; albiet a very limited interpretation but i digress. i just. think it's kind of strange that people often take to the fact that she's 18 when i feel it's more so heavily suggested and implied she was literally 17, maybe 16 (i don't really think this to be true but shit it's possible.) i mean, it's stated that she joined the gang in 1894. and knowing that she was born in 1877 simple math tells you that she was just 17. i know birthday plays a crucial role in this, and of course so does the date she joined the gang but we,,,don't know this information. so we can really only assume she was either 16 or 17 when she joined. and the game literally HEAVILY implies that she was a child prostitute, and that she "grew up scraping out a living in dive bars and brothels in the west." that people in both games refer to her a "whore", dutch's line about how everyone had her, she herself says that she was a working girl. so we have countless things that confirm the fact that she was a child prostitute, that was her job and the only way she was able to even survive. and she comes into the gang with that same mentality of survival, and the only way she knows how is to sell herself like she's always done. all of that considered, and then we have people who turn around and try to negate her situation and what she went through by saying; "oh she was actually 18." or "oh she didn't have everyone dutch was just trying to get under john's skin." is so, dismissive ??? like okay if she was 18 why does that matter, it doesn't soften the blow of what happened to her. doesn't take away the fact john treated her like shit, that she was getting pimped out ? it's so annoying because what IF she was 16/17 (which she most likely was going off of math alone), what now ? it's incredibly annoying to have people sit there and say that dutch was lying because what then if he wasn't ? people are so obsessed with trying to prove these things wrong, because it makes them uncomfortable. what abigail went through reflects SO many young girl's lives at the time and even now, i feel it's wrong to try and find ways to disprove what's been implied to have happened to her and straight up actually be canon because they can't handle the fact that she was ACTUALLY a child prostitute who also ended up having to sell her body to most of the male gang members at the time to live another day. they never want to validate what she went through because she was a prostitue, she was the camp whore. and for them her story isn't worthy enough because a lot of people will always see her as a whore, and for people who try to negate her having the male characters its to somehow make her look better, but it unintentionally demonizes young girls and women who have actually been through similar situations.
