Got bored and decided to try and make Arthur in minecraft only using the marketplace stuff.. my deer arthur 🤌
The essay I could write on how this fandom treats both Mary and Abigail would rival a dictionary in pages honestly. Like... Just say you hate women guys instead of making stuff up, misinterpreting their character, or being misogynistic. Not you OP, I feel like you're one of the few people who grasped literally every single aspect of the game so well you could convince me you made it yourself.
Agreed!! I could write pages and pages about the women in the game and it honestly disgusts me how prevalent the misogyny is in gaming spaces especially.
Mary wasn't my favourite when I played rdr2 the first time, but I never hated her even then! If anything, I've grown to love her as I played the game more <3
The adoration in Arthur's writing when talking about Mary should honestly be proof enough that he loved her so much.
There was a post about rdr2 red flags and the post itself was alright, but my comment received a lot of unsavoury replies so I wanted to make my own post about Mary Linton (because she's apparently more hated than the game's actual antagonists).
You see, I think a lot of the criticism aimed at Mary is less based on what the game actually shows us and more on the gendered expectations people place on female characters especially. It is truly disappointing to see such rampant and unjust hate for a character that is seen as a "nag" before being understood. The original poster wasn't particularly helping the situation in the comments either but I digress.
There's no point in me showing the worst replies here, we've heard it all before and giving them attention doesn't help, but it truly is an embarrassing display of how many people seem so unwilling to engage or empathise with a complex female character (in a game known for being complex and filled with other even more complex characters for that matter) yet are happy to understand the complexity of male characters.
Prepare for the lowest quality video you have ever seen but why does shit like this ALWAYS happen when I'm in a hurry????

Hey gang sorry for the lack of everything on this blog I have been very sick for the past few months 😮💨 I miss rdr sooo bad I want to weep I miss my guys my gang.... my rdr2 tomodachis..... sighh
I think something that still baffles me to this day is the real lack of rockstar capitalising on rdr2 merchandise, yknow?
I mean, there's still merch you can buy occasionally when it's in stock, but basic shirts and small novelty stuff doesn't really scream rdr2 in the way people tend to be passionate about. The limited edition collectors crates were cool, but again limited and expensive and not really merchandise that fans can buy easily.
Sure, there's the cool Arthur posable figure that isn't technically official, and the vinyls and the various merch partnerships that came and went quickly (and expensively), but nothing that I would really consider collectable merchandise that promotes the game I guess? I wish we had more stuff like the pins and keychains and mouse pads!
Yet no art book, no official journal replica, no badass graphic hoodies or hats, no game prop replicas (huge missed opportunity imo), no gamer specific merch, no novelty stickers, no prints, no posters, no official figurines, it's just a huge loss honestly.
Like, the merch we got vs the average fan merch.
In some ways, I'm glad rdr2 wasn't capitalised to death with excessive merchandise because it has given fans the opportunity to create amazing merch. But it also makes me wish there was just more merchandise with more effort put in.

People joke and say that Arthur is older sister coded but I feel like the reason why people say that is less because of Arthur's age and more because of the specific responsibility put on older siblings, and older sisters especially are made to be the emotional backbone of the family.
They're expected to grow faster, mature faster. They're expected to carry responsibility that doesn’t belong to them yet, to step in as caretakers and mentors whilst being treated like children themselves. They’re expected to make adult decisions young without being given adult agency. They're expected to hold a family together without being allowed to fall apart.
Arthur isn't snappy and bitchy to be unkind, he's like that because the sheer weight of expectation and care hardened him. He became the backbone of the gang, the workhorse, the one who absorbed consequences and carried the burdens of the gang's choices, Dutch's especially.
So when people call him older sister coded, what I think is being said is the recognition that Arthur was a man who had spent his entire life being a caretaker and enforcer before he got the chance to be a person. Just like the sisters put into that role too young, Arthur didn't really know what to do with himself once he realised that he deserved care too.

We know that animal symbolism is huge in rdr2, but I especially love how the gang having "assigned" animals was made canon thanks to red dead online - as belt buckles of all things! (gorgeous ones too!)
Charles, Micah, Sadie, Karen, Javier, Strauss, Swanson, and Bill each had themed buckles from the long discontinued Outlaw Passes. They weren't directly named after each gang member, but the clothing and details are almost exact to their human counterparts!

All the new rdo players after the holidays are so funny because you can see that they have no idea what they're doing but they're trying their best anyways and I love it
