Check Inventory Before Catalog.
Scene 1: The Scammed and the Clueless
The Yorozuya Gin-chan office was filled with the usual sound of aggressive crunching. Kagura was mid-way through her third bag of pickled seaweed, Shinpachi was frantically wiping down the television screen, and Gintoki was picking his nose while reading the latest issue of *Weekly Shonen Jump*.
Suddenly, the front door didn't just open; it flew off its hinges. Mutsu stepped over the wreckage, her face carved out of pure stone. Behind her, Tatsuma Sakamoto was laughing like a broken record.
"Ahahaha! Kintoki! Long time no see! The weather in Edo is truly magnificent for a financial crisis!"
"Fix the door before you fix the economy, you loud-mouthed space merchant!" Gintoki snapped, not even looking up from his manga. "And my name is GIn-toki! If you call me Kintoki one more time, I'm billing your company for emotional damages."
Mutsu walked straight to the desk and slammed a thick ledger down, flattening Gintoki’s Jump. "We have a problem. A group of elite shape-shifting Amanto scammers disguised themselves as wealthy outer-rim patrons. They fooled Sakamoto into signing away a massive shipment of luxury space-rice, claiming they were our premier clients."
"Hey! Don't look at me like that, Mutsu!" Sakamoto grinned, adjusting his sunglasses. "They had very shiny business cards! And they wore top hats! A man in a top hat never lies!"
"They didn't just scam us," Mutsu continued, her grip tightening on her laser revolver. "We tracked their signatures. To celebrate their successful heist, they've been hitting the Edo nightlife. They visited Otae’s cabaret club and Tsukuyo’s courtesan house in Yoshiwara, ran up millions in tabs enjoying the premier services, and vanished right before the bill arrived. Both Otae and Tsukuyo have promised to flay us alive if we don't catch them."
"A cabaret club?!" Sakamoto’s eyes instantly turned into flashing neon hearts. "Ahahaha! Truly, the scammers have exquisite taste! Kintoki, we must investigate immediately! For justice! And for the beautiful ladies of Edo!"
Ten minutes later, the crew was staked out at the Cabaret Club. Instead of looking for the suspects, Sakamoto was completely plastered, sitting between two hostesses and laughing like a hyena.
"Ahahaha! Miss, your eyes are like the stars in the Orion nebula! Tell me, does a gorgeous celestial being like you prefer space-yens or standard earthly currency? Ahahaha!"
Mutsu stood in the corner, her straw hat cast downward, her aura leaking pure, unadulterated Yato bloodlust. "I should have shot him in the atmosphere," she muttered.
Gintoki, who was busy stealing expensive melon slices from Sakamoto’s table, sighed and nudged the space merchant with his wooden sword. "Hey. Stop ogling at other women when you’ve already got a top-tier one standing right next to you, you ungrateful idiot."
Sakamoto blinked, his neon-heart eyes turning back to normal behind his sunglasses. He looked at Gintoki, genuinely confused. "Eh? A top-tier woman? Kintoki, what are you talking about?"
Gintoki pointed a lazy thumb toward the corner of the room. Sakamoto’s gaze followed... and landed directly past Mutsu, focusing on Otose, who happened to be at the bar aggressively collecting protection money from the club owner while puffing on a cigarette.
Sakamoto gasped, a look of profound, horrified realization washing over his face. "K-Kintoki... I knew you had eccentric tastes, but I didn't know you wanted me to court the legendary Empress of Kabukicho! She looks like she could swallow the *Kairientai* flagship whole! My business model cannot handle a woman of that caliber! Ahahaha!"
"I'm talking about Mutsu, you absolute visual-disaster!!!" Gintoki roared, slamming his fist onto Sakamoto’s head. "How do your eyes even function behind those green lenses?!"
Scene 2: The Double Fraud
Before they could even formulate a proper plan, the situation escalated from stupid to catastrophic.
While wandering the streets near the terminal, Shinpachi ran toward the group, panting heavily. "Gin-san! Gin-san! We have a huge problem! The scammers! They just pulled a hit right in the middle of the main street!"
"What did they do? Steal more space-rice?" Gintoki asked, picking his ear.
"No! They wore silver perms and white yukatas! They pretended to be *you*, Gin-san!" Shinpachi yelled, grabbing Gintoki by the collar. "And they ran into Sarutobi-san!"
Cut to the alleyway. Ayame Sarutobi (Sacchan) was currently tied to a lamppost, looking completely delirious with joy, covered in red rope. Her glasses were shattered on the pavement.
"Ahhh... Gin-san was so aggressive today..." Sacchan groaned, a heavy blush on her face. "He came up to me and said, *'Oi, ninja girl, give me all your emergency funds or I’ll never step on you again.'* It was so dominant! So romantic! I handed over my entire life savings and my secret ninja retirement fund immediately!"
Gintoki stared at her, his dead-fish eyes wider than usual. "Wait. You gave a complete stranger all your money just because he had a silver perm and treated you like trash?"
"Of course! The real Gin-san would never ask for money nicely!" Sacchan yelled proudly.
"That's true, aru," Kagura nodded solemnly. "Gin-chan only steals money from Shinpachi’s piggy bank when he loses at pachinko."
"Don't validate her, Kagura! And don't admit to stealing my money!" Shinpachi screamed.
Mutsu stepped forward, her patience completely depleted. "That's enough. They’ve tarnished the Yorozuya name, stolen our cargo, and insulted the nightlife of Edo. It’s time to stop fooling around."
Scene 3: The Hostess of the New Era
Because the scammers already knew the faces of Gintoki, Sakamoto, Otae, and Tsukuyo, a standard sting operation was impossible. The group decided to rent out a small, vacant bar in the underworld district, setting up a trap under the guise of an ultra-exclusive, grand-opening event for "wealthy patrons only."
Since everyone else's identity was completely compromised, only one person could act as the front.
The doors of the newly styled bar opened. Sakamoto, Gintoki, and Shinpachi were hiding behind a one-way mirror in the back room.
"Alright, let's see how this goes..." Gintoki muttered, sipping a green tea.
The curtain parted. Mutsu stepped into the main room.
The standard Yato blue tunic, standard boots, and straw hat were completely gone. In their place, she wore a breathtaking, deep crimson kimono patterned with falling cherry blossoms. Her untamed hair had been styled into an elegant, traditional updo, held together by a single ornate hairpin. Her face, usually bare and smudged with space-grime, was adorned with subtle, masterfully applied makeup—her lips painted a delicate shade of rose, her fierce eyes softened by a touch of shadow.
She looked entirely like a high-born hime, elegant, poised, and devastatingly beautiful.
In the back room, a loud *CLANG* echoed.
Gintoki and Shinpachi turned around. Sakamoto had dropped his glass of sake. His green sunglasses had slid down to the tip of his nose, his mouth wide open, a thin stream of drool escaping his lips. His brain had completely stopped functioning.
"A... Ahahaha..." Sakamoto whispered, though he wasn't laughing. His face turned bright red, his heart hammering against his ribs like an engine malfunction. "K-Kintoki... who is that celestial maiden? Did we accidentally kidnap a goddess from the Ryugu Palace?"
"That's Mutsu, you blind merchant!" Shinpachi yelled. "See?! We told you she was amazing!"
"Mutsu...?" Sakamoto muttered, his eyes glued to the mirror. For the first time in his life, he forgot about trade margins, he forgot about space-rice, and he forgot about his loud laugh. He was completely, utterly infatuated.
Right on cue, three Amanto dressed in ridiculously oversized luxury suits walked into the bar, looking around greedily. The scammers had arrived.
Mutsu glided toward them, her voice dropping into a perfectly rehearsed, sweet hostess tone. "Welcome, gentlemen. We’ve been expecting patrons of your... immense stature. Please, let me pour you a drink."
The scammers, blinded by her beauty and the allure of free premium liquor, sat down immediately, completely unaware that the "sweet hostess" could effortlessly throw a spaceship into orbit.
Scene 4: The Catch and the Cold Shoulder
The moment the scammers finished their first round of drinks and tried to pull their signature "let me go to the bathroom and never come back" routine, the trap sprung.
"Ahahaha! Not so fast, my esteemed clients!" Sakamoto boomed, kicking the door from the back room open. Gintoki and Kagura flanked him, weapons drawn.
The scammers tried to shapeshift into birds to fly away, but Mutsu didn't even give them the chance. With a swift, fluid motion, she grabbed the heaviest sake bottle on the table and shattered it perfectly over the leader's head. Before the other two could react, she swept their legs out from under them, pinning them to the floor with her knees, her elegant kimono rustling flawlessly.
"The shipment of space-rice," Mutsu said, her sweet hostess voice instantly reverting back to her icy, terrifying commander tone. "Where is it?"
"In the warehouse by Pier 4! We'll give it back! Just don't let the scary lady look at us anymore!" the scammers wailed, instantly breaking under the pressure.
Shinpachi and Gintoki dragged the fraudsters away to hand them over to the Shinsengumi (and to collect the reward money before Otose could find out).
With the job done, the tension in the bar faded. Mutsu stood up, sighing as she adjusted the heavy sleeves of her kimono. "What a hassle. At least we got the cargo back."
Suddenly, a shadow fell over her.
Sakamoto was standing right in front of her. His sunglasses were tucked into his collar, revealing his wide, bright eyes. He adjusted his coat, trying to look like a suave, dashing hero from a romantic space-opera.
"Mutsu..." he said, his voice dropping an octave, completely devoid of his usual screeching laugh. He reached out, trying to gently take her hand. "You know... that crimson color suits you beautifully. Truly, the stars themselves pale in comparison to your radiance tonight. How about after we load the space-rice, you and I go for a quiet walk along the Edo riverbank? Just the two of us, ah—"
Mutsu didn't even look at him. She walked straight past his outstretched hand, pulled her standard straw hat out from beneath the counter, and tossed it over her perfect updo, completely crushing the elegant hairstyle.
"The tide is changing in twenty minutes, Sakamoto," Mutsu said flatly, her voice completely deadpan as she walked toward the exit. "If the cargo isn't loaded by then, I'm deducting the docking fees from your personal allowance."
"Wait! Mutsu! Look at me!" Sakamoto cried, turning around and chasing after her like a lost puppy. "I was being serious! The riverbank! The romantic moonlight! I'll buy you the expensive space-dumplings!"
"I don't like dumplings," Mutsu replied, her pace never slowing as she kicked the front door open.
"Then space-parfaits! Kintoki always says women love sugar! Mutsuooo! Don't leave your captain behind in the romance arc!"
From the alleyway, Gintoki watched the space merchant desperately chasing after the unyielding Yato commander. He took a slow drag from his cigarette, shaking his head.
"Serves you right, you idiot," Gintoki muttered to the camera. "Maybe in the next season, you'll learn to check the inventory before you look at the catalog. Cut the scene, staff! We're over time!".
