i never post on tumblr anymore but i was just so compelled to put this out there because i can't stop thinking it:
damn ghilan'nain is really fucking hot
i have not complained about doctor who for a few years because, on the one hand i did not watch the last season and a half + specials of the chibnall era because i am not a masochist and on the other because most of RTD2 so far has been acceptable to good to occasionally great and i am generally happy with it.
that said i am in some stage of grief over empire of death and its non-resolution to the entire season's arc. the idea that ruby's mother was entirely ordinary is very doctor who but does nothing to address the incredible amount of incredibly strange things going on with ruby over the course of the prior stories. i would go as far as to say it feels like a direct contradiction. there is a distinct possibility this is by design and that there is some double twist coming our way, but the fact that i come out of this feeling vaguely insulted instead of curious speaks to the failure of empire of death to be properly wrap up the story. it's the kind of bad writing where the execution is so off that you actually can't rightly tell what it was trying to execute.
i really want to avoid being overly negative for as much as i have problems with it and various other things with the season, i never hated watching any of it and i have more faith in RTD as a writer than i had in chibnall, who was less flawed than he was simply incompetent and lazy. it's just that the execution here makes me feel slightly foolish for hoping that a real resolution, real worldbuilding, real risk-taking would come, even if those things may well still be on the horizon. it's a difficult kind of confused deflation to express. i just want companions who are a little special, maybe non-human, mystical in some way...
my current cope fan theory is that mrs flood is some kind of mythological story teller and that the nature of ruby's life is still a mystery, even if she is "just a human". her resolution just feels too perfectly and ironically un-resolved, they have to be going somewhere with it. i hold out hope but not expectations.
on a positive note i like how experimental the show has become this season and i very much enjoy ncuti and millie's performances. as critical as i am right now my overwhelming feeling has been that i finally have something resembling the show i grew up with back which i can only be happy with.
on an unrelated note i am a millie gibson as ruby sunday simp. helloo

Theodora was silent for a minute, walking in the darkness, and Eleanor was suddenly absurdly sure that Theodora had put out a hand to her, unseen. “Theo,” Eleanor said awkwardly, “I’m no good at talking to people and saying things.”
Theodora laughed. “What are you good at?” she demanded. “Running away?”
Nothing irrevocable had yet been spoken, but there was only the barest margin of safety left them; each of them moving delicately along the outskirts of an open question, and, once spoken, such a question—as “Do you love me?"—could never be answered or forgotten.
— The Haunting of Hill House, Shirley Jackson

What if we were both invited🙈 to assist with investigating an allegedly haunted house👻 because of strange phenomena we've experienced ❓
And we were both girls👭🙈
me, an asexual who recoils at the idea of ever having to have realistic sex with anyone ever: i am asexual. this is a thing that i know. i am secure in this identity, i like being asexual.
me, again, still asexual but also the kind of asexual to be horny all the time and have vivid sexual fantasies they would never do in real life, waking up at 3 am, dripping sweat: But What If I’m Not
so it turned out the "sexual fantasies" were a result of ocd and im not the horny kind of asexual but the mentally ill kind. fun!
people who watch musicals and bitch about how it doesn’t make sense that the characters randomly burst into song are so funny to me. babe it’s literally a musical like this is the standard of the genre what did you expect
THAT'S THE WHOLE PROBLEM WITH THE GENRE AS A WHOLE, THAT'S THE POINT
i’m sorry you’re allergic to fun i’m sure that makes life very difficult for you
Me watching a murder mystery: What the hell...why are so many different characters suspicious, in reality cases aren't normally this complicated, this whole genre is a mess...
Me watching a comedy: What the hell...so many silly and unlikely situations keep happening...
Me watching an action movie: What the helll...why is it so violent...
Me watching a fantasy film: What the hell....elves aren't real....
mitski's response to the tweet asking people to put away their phones during her shows

the key to being a hater and not have it be corrosive to your spirit is that you gotta balance it out by openly loving things too. trashing shit is only respectable if you’re also capable of joy and not just oozing negativity 24/7. also when you’re being positive you’re not allowed to do it with ironic detachment. all sincerity all the time babey
You ever think about how unified humanity is by just everyday experiences? Tudor peasants had hangnails, nobles in the Qin dynasty had favorite foods, workers in the 1700s liked seeing flowers growing in pavement cracks, a cook in medieval Iran teared up cutting onions, a mom in 1300 told her son not to get grass stains on his clothes, some girl in the past loved staying up late to see the sun rise.
there are scriptures all over the world painstakingly crafted hundreds of years ago with paw prints and spelling mistakes or drawings covering up mistakes. a bunch of teenage girls 2000 years ago gathered to walk around their hometown, getting fast food and laughing with their friends. two friends shared blankets before people lived in houses. a mother ran a fine comb through her child’s hair and told it to stop squirming sometime in the 1000s. there are covered up sewing mistakes in couture dresses from the 1800s, some poor roman burnt their food so well past recognition that they just buried the entire pot. there are broken dishes hidden in gardens of people no one even remembers anymore
you know who russell t davies needs to bring back to the show above all else? murray gold
writers envy but evil
do you ever see a banger concept executed a way you dont like and cup its face in your hands and tell it ‘i can fix you’
Not gonna lie still thinking about the absolute bomb that was the Doctor Who episode where they reveal that the TARDIS requires like eight or something people to pilot and that’s why the Doctor looks ridiculous when he flies it… like.. that was SO simple and yet SUCH a good way to instantly convey so much loneliness… like bro.. bro it requires a family… a whole bunch of people… but they just fly alone and make do…
