Beginning our focused listening on Carmen Papalia's ear cleaning tours!

Come on down for what promises to be a fun and engaging Ear-Cleaning Tour with artist, Carmen Papalia. Today at 2pm and 4pm. Meet in MoMA’s Cullman mezzanine where MoMA Studio: Sound in Space is located. See you there!

Ear cleaning is the practice of gaining awareness of the state of a soundscape by temporarily plugging the ears before listening. During these ear cleaning tours, artist Carmen Papalia leads a group of participants who are wearing earplugs to a number of noticeably different acoustic environments. Tour participants only remove their earplugs once they have reached a scheduled destination—at which point they will be lead through focused listening exercises.

Check out this MoMA website - a new curatorial experiment organized by Paola Antonelli - Design and Violence will explore the relationship between design and violence; in efforts to shed light on the complex impact of design on the built environment and on everyday life, as well as on the role of violence in contemporary society.

MoMA announced a new collaboration with Khan Academy, a leading not-for-profit educational organization that provides extensive free video content on their website via “tutorials”. The MoMA “tutorials” include videos about printmaking techniques, the 1913 Centennial Celebration, Abstract Expressionism (as part of the Ab Ex NY exhibition), performance art (Marina Abramovic videos), behind the scenes, and artist interviews.

Join us at 2:00pm Saturday, Nov. 9 to sign up and try out a series of activities to challenge our thinking about the way we communicate and exchange gestures and expressions with friends and strangers...the workshop will culminate in a group performance. See you there!
