part of morty being an abuse victim IS that he has unhealthy methods of maneuvering through the world and sometimes those self-preservation methods end up hurting other people. and he knows that they hurt other people but he’s adept enough at Surviving that he can temporarily push those feelings aside, even if they still gnaw at him. none of this makes morty any less of a victim, the abuse any less real, or the adults in his life any less accountable. the episode itself is extremely sympathetic to morty, and part of that sympathy is allowing him to have this agency and nuance.
