Q: So you have a new series on Netflix. How's it doing abroad?
Zerocalcare: Super well in Spanish speaking countries aka in Spain and Latinoamérica. It's doing so well, actually, that there is a whole fandom hellbent on having my character fuck with just about anybody. With Secco, with the Armadillo… Almost always male characters, but not exclusively. This is super interesting, they're [stories] written by girls, usually young girls, but they're a super explicit, things like, idk, jizzing in someone's face or something… Of course, if you do something like that in Italy it's usually because you're trying to bully someone. Right? A hater would do that. But this here is done with a lot of affection and love for the characters. I mean to say—Hey, don't laugh!
Q: No, it's beautiful.
Zerocalcare: It's like, they write what they want to see the character's arcs evolve into, because it's something they're into. And it's a bit weird, it's just bizarre. And when Italian [fans] stumble upon them, they start commenting things like "Aaargh! What are you doing?! That's a real person! It's like you're raping him!" And I'd like to reply to them, Easy guys, hold your horses! I mean, maybe I feel a little weirded out, but I certainly don't feel violated in that way, I mean… Still, it's quite unusual as it's strictly a Latin American phenomenon.
Q: …even with the Armadillo?
Zerocalcare: Even with the Armadillo. Which, it's quite curious, actually, because it just unrolls its--
Q: His huge penis?
Zerocalcare: Yep, like a liquorice roll. I mean, I don't know if it's an actual thing they do in nature or if it's an artistic license…
Q: And what about you, [Italian pop singer Coez]? Have fans ever drawn you with, like, man jizz on your face?
Coez: Well, no, I only write songs, it's not a multifaceted medium, so…
