backing up into lockers

He made me love him without looking at me.

Well, it seems to me that the best relationships - the ones that last - are frequently the ones that are rooted in friendship. You know, one day you look at the person and you see something more than you did the night before. Like a switch has been flicked somewhere. And the person who was just a friend is… suddenly the only person you can ever imagine yourself with.

The sun inside of him rages like wildfire and he is gold gold gold and he is scorching the skin of my heart, yet still he pretends  that he is safe for me to love, that his hands are gentle, that his fingerprints won’t be seared into the notches of my spine. The sun inside of him could set the kingdom ablaze; he knows this, he does. And he still asks me to love him, to face the flame.  Find me in the ashes.

Just because two people don’t wind up spending their entire lives together doesn’t mean their relationship was a failure.

If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.

Sometimes you just have to try, even if you know it won’t work.

Don’t you know I’d break bones to be with you? I’d bleed rivers if it brought us closer together.

This is why people touch. Sometimes words are just not enough.

You want something I can never give you. You want warmth, tenderness, the subliminal touch of a lover, and I, all I can give you is an unfulfilled ache, and some frost from the frozen waste that is my heart.

I will never let you down. I promise you that with my life. For I myself have been let down and fooled by friendship. So that has toughened my stronghold and kept my word on never letting you down.

It always struck me in years after how bizarre it was, how two people could look at one another with such tenderness and complete love, and how quickly that could dissolve into nothing but bitterness.

There’s nothing more intimate in life than simply being understood… And understanding someone else.
