So some fanartist drew a “sexy” (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because it’s kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what they’re into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their “opponents’” accounts.

So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a children’s education charity via each side’s portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.

Chapter 25: Not Better Than This

Just when Han thinks it gets better between him and Leia, they only get worse.

IMO, one of the best things about the time skip between escaping Hoth and arriving in Cloud City is how much is left up to the audiences interpretation. As a kid, i always assumed the trip was like. a couple of hours (lmao). cause it was never really stated but as i got more into fandom/fanfiction spaces I realized how much of a GOLD MINE the trip to Bespin is.

I’m sure this has been said a bunch of times but we can see such a drastic change in Leia’s behavior towards Han between their first kiss and their softness by the time they’re in their quarters on Cloud City (and even on the landing strip when Han laughs off Lando’s advances and takes Leia’s hand). She went from turning down Han’s attempts at affection to openly accepting that adorable forehead kiss.

Of course, we know Leia wasn’t being hostile to Han because she didn’t like him, but rather she was scared of letting him in and opening herself up to losing someone else she loves. So something during the trip to Bespin had to have helped her reach that easy acceptance of affection (and bold love declaration) we see in Cloud City.

And as a forced proximity enthusiast, my guess is that the Falcon was only so big and Leia couldn’t avoid Han and her feelings for him forever. On Echo Base, it was easy enough to keep her distance and try to separate her feelings from the cause of the rebellion, but once she was trapped on the Falcon with no way out and no direct missions from the Alliance, it got much more difficult. Now, when they weren’t constantly putting themselves in danger and she wasn’t being reminded about how Han is going to eventually leave, she could understand that he was here now and that was what mattered.

Hey!!! Sorry I'm getting back to you late. I wrote down a bunch of my thoughts when I was out, but then re-read it when I got home, and realized it was just incoherent rambling 😂 so I had to fix it.

THE TRIP TO BESPIN TRIP MY BELOVED 😍 Yes me too, when I first watched Star Wars at 16, it also didn’t really click to me that the trip was probably longer than a few hours. I honestly didn’t even think about it, until I read fanfiction about it and realized it was a thing. I made some kind of comment a while back about how Leia really did need a good kiss. Seriously. And you notice it too with the way she treated Han while talking about their route to Bespin (the cheek kiss 🥺) and when they were greeted by Lando. Again, she needed a good kiss and specifically from him, no one else. They were both so down bad for each other. Especially considering the extended kiss scene where Leia pulled Han back to make out with him (I am FOREVER salty about that not being in the movie).

I mean let's be honest. They definitely kissed more than just that one time. I will die on that hill. I think the very common head canon a lot of the fandom have is that they consummated their relationship during that time (I tend to believe that as well, seems very plausible). Besides that, it's also just such a sweet and wholesome thought thinking about them just cuddling too 😭

Tumblr en concreto es muy anglocentrista y un gran número de los usuarios no habla más que inglés. Si quieres que tus cosas lleguen a gente con gustos u opiniones similares, escribirlo en inglés asegura que la gente por lo menos lo pueda leer. Suma a esto el hecho de que bastantes series y tal son originalmente de habla inglesa (y a veces ni se traducen a tu lengua madre), lo que crea un fandom principalmente angloparlante.

Más allá de eso, también hay que tener en cuenta las diferencias culturales que surgen entre fandoms de distintos idiomas. Por ejemplo, durante mucho tiempo el fandom de Vocaloid angloparlante y el hispanohablante han chocado con respecto a temas como la piratería. En ocasiones es complicado manejar estas expectativas, y si sabes varios idiomas, peor incluso.

A mí me gustaría subir cositas en español y encontrar a gente que comparta mis gustos, pero en Tumblr en concreto es casi imposible. Tumblr ya es de por sí mucho más «nicho» en espacios hispanohablantes que otras RRSS como TikTok o Instagram, y si tus intereses no son muy populares, despídete.

La lingüística de los espacios de fans también está hipercentrada en el inglés. No es una pareja, es un ship; no es un universo alternativo, es un AU; no es destripar, es hacer spoiler, etc. Incluso las siglas: en español es LGTB, pero lo que sueles ver es LGBT. Parece una tontería, pero esta disonancia cognitiva hace que resulte muchísimo más complicado hablar en tu propio idioma en un fandom. Por no hablar de las innumerables referencias a posts o a memes... en inglés todo, por supuesto. Como te atrevas a hacer cualquier referencia cultural no inglesa, no te entiende nadie. Pierde la gracia.
