Been feeling very self indulgent about Undertale in particular lately so I finally whipped up an AU idea I've had in my head for a good while now.

The gist is basically a what-if of Toriel getting the idea to start up a hotel after making it up to the surface. It mostly stems from the idea of her wanting to carry on what she was trying to do before while underground - provide a safe place for others to be welcomed to and comfortable at.

Once Toriel started talking about the idea with the others, they were more than happy to help her out! Within a good couple years, the hotel ("The Golden Flower") was designed, built, and ready to go. While it's still relatively new, it's gotten decent business and is regarded pretty well!

Speaking of the others and the hotel...

🌻 CAST 🌻

Since there's a decent chunk of characters here, I'll try to keep it as short as I can for each of them (but I can NOT make any promises LOL). I also want to mention that while they all have their own general jobs, there's plenty of other staff not shown here (that I hope to draw as well at some point, fingers crossed). There's also the fact that a lot of them sub in for others with jobs they don't usually do but they can do (i.e. Sans working front desk or Asgore helping with housekeeping duties).

Toriel (Owner, front desk, housekeeping): While it's quite a lot of work having to manage a hotel, Toriel finds happiness in the work she does and will do what she can to make sure that any guests have a wonderful stay. Sometimes, though, the work can be draining enough to the point where the others drag her to go sit down before they go take care of whatever else she needed to get done. She's extremely hard working, but she's also in good company that'll make sure she'll never overwork herself.

Frisk (Middle school student): Since some years have passed, I roughly imagine Frisk to be in middle school. They do alright in school for the most part, though they're much more interested in helping out at the hotel and all the different people they meet that come in to stay. Most of the help they do is with gardening with Asgore, housekeeping with Toriel, or bellhop duties with Papyrus and Undyne. While Frisk doesn't necessarily talk much with visitors, they're fine with just people-watching for funsies. Outside of school and the hotel, they tend to roam around outside in nearby parks/forests and just adventure around (usually after sneaking out without permission - usually not on purpose, they just tend to forget to ask. Sometimes on purpose though).

Sans (Custodian): For being a so-called lazy bones, Sans actually does quite a bit to make sure that things in the hotel stay fixed and running no matter what. Cleaning, repairs, electrical work - you name it. He just tends to find lazy ways to go about getting things done is all. (Magic. It's usually just magic. Or Alphys does it.) While his many puns aren't always a hit with everybody, he does an alright job of making sure that guests feel welcomed. Has an unfortunate habit of messing around with guests sometimes by teleporting away when they're not looking.

Papyrus (Bellhop, security, housekeeping): Papyrus genuinely does seem like he'd be a perfect fit to be a bellhop - he's cheery, not very judgemental, and loves to chat. Plus, he's got some strength so he can carry some pretty big bags as well as chip in with security work as needed. Guests tend to enjoy his chipper attitude and leave him tips sometimes. He's not without faults, of course - there's always times here and there where he tries to help out with cooking. You can imagine how that goes. (HE'S GETTING BETTER THOUGH!)

Undyne (Bellhop, security): Even though Undyne helps out with Papyrus' bellhop duties, she tends to lean more on the security side of things than anything. Sure, she'll carry bags up and down for people if they need it, but she's not always the best with chitchat with strangers. It'll be awkward, but she'll definitely still try! Aside from that, Undyne also tends to be the one to keep an eye on Frisk most of the time outside of the hotel. She knows the others will carry on just fine without her - besides, the unattended child sneaking outside is probably a little more important. (Undyne does tend to catch Frisk as they're heading out, but she usually either lets them go and just supervises from afar or goes with them outright to keep them company.)

Alphys (Front desk, custodian): After getting to the surface, Alphys hit a slump of being unsure what to do with herself - she had been burnt out after all the experiments and such that she'd worked on in the underground. Once the idea of a hotel started being floated around though, Alphys was honestly the biggest supporter - the whole thing helped rekindle her passion to work on projects again. Thankfully the work gets slow here and there, so she has plenty of time to work on project ideas and such whenever there's downtime. She pitches in with custodian work with Sans here and there when she can, too.

Mettaton (Singer): Alongside Alphys, Mettaton was also one of the biggest supporters in getting the hotel going. He's made a really decent name for himself as a singer and entertainer after making it up to the surface, so he was able to throw a decent chunk of money at the project. He also managed to get a lounge thrown into the mix where he can perform every now and then to a bit of a smaller crowd. While he doesn't live there like the others do, he goes out of his way to visit as often as he can and keep up with everyone - they are some of his original fans, after all.

Asgore (Gardener, housekeeping): Like Alphys, Asgore was unsure what to really do with himself after heading up to the surface - he didn't even really have a starting point of what he would even want to do. After hearing about the hotel though, he asked about helping and while Toriel was hesitant to have him help out at first, she eventually came around to the idea. Eventually. Most of his days consist of tending to the numerous plants on the property and making sure that rooms stay clean and beds get made, but he doesn't necessarily mind. He finds plenty comfort in being surrounded by those he cares about and not having to worry all the time anymore.

Flowey: Obligatory addition of Flowey Is Here Also But In A Flower Pot. Really though, he snuck up to the surface after everybody left the underground and eventually got found by Frisk. They ended up talking for a while (it was mostly Flowey talking but still) and Flowey sort of begrudgingly agreed to stay with Frisk and Toriel. After experiencing everything that led to the underground being freed, Frisk didn't want Flowey to have to stay alone and believed that he deserved to have somewhere to stay. They also ended up giving him the heart locket they got from New Home back in the underground because they believe he should have it more. Flowey spends most of his time either among the plants in the hotel courtyard or in the ones on the roof. It also happens very rarely, but he'll talk to guests sometimes. Just to spook em.

And now that the main cast is out of the way...

🌻 HOTEL 🌻

"The Golden Flower" - not the most visually stunning, but it's cozy and nice enough! I had a general vision in my head for how it looked and I probably could've done better with it. Anywho! Tried to make the floor plan simple enough - first floor has the lobby, courtyard, lounge, and storage/live-in rooms. From there, you can either go up using the staircase in the back corner (which leads all the way up to the roof) or use the two elevators on either side of the courtyard (glass elevators that look out on the courtyard).

Second floor onward is basically just a buncha rooms (one layer closest inwards with windows facing the courtyard and another layer with windows facing outwards) - it's just room central. Lots and lots of rooms. There's around six floors total (including the first floor).

Then finally there's the roof - nothing super fancy going on there, just some greenery and some seating if anybody so chooses to go up there and chillax. (I know the diagrams probably aren't the clearest things in the world by the way, apolocheese 🙏 I don't usually design buildings or anything. I am ANYTHING but an architect.)
