I know the other big concern is not having any warm up prior to a slam, but Jannik just won Wimbledon coming off of no warm ups and a month away from competitive tennis. It’s also unlikely to be a Doha situation, because that loss was a consequence of Jannik making changes to his forehand that Jakub was then able to exploit with his serve. Moreover, now that Jannik’s won a slam “dirty”; playing himself back into form, grinding through five and four setters with multiple tie breaks, obviously not quite at ease with himself in the early rounds— Jannik has proven to himself that he can play that real messer zwischen den zähnen tennis and still win it all. And that, along with his five-setter record, are two career-significant mental hurdles he‘s just over come. I don‘t think it will be easy, but I also think we‘re very far from hopelessness.
