Modern times.

Callum, technically royalty from a small state who just wants to live the a normal college experience. He’s been through high school with obvious bodyguards watching his every move and hated it. It made it difficult to make real friends and he felt lonely and isolated the entire time.

He desperately wants to go abroad to study, to get away from the whole prince thing, but his parents are not exactly excited about him being unguarded. He’s had issues with an obsessive fan in the past and everyone understandably has concerns. Sarai proposes they find him a bodyguard to pose as a friend. A roommate and classmate.

Callum reluctantly agrees. It definitely sounds better than having a bunch of old guys hanging around him.

Enter Rayla.

She can easily pass for a regular college student, while keeping a close eye on him. And luckily, they seem to get along really well.

Perhaps too well, in the eyes of some.

23. pick three keywords that describe your writing

Hmm, well, I feel like angsty has most certainly got to be up there. 😅

I feel like I get a decent number of comments on how I write banter? I adore how playful Rayla and Callum are, how much fun they have together and no matter what else is going on in my fics, I do like to try and show that, above all else, they are friends who truly enjoy each other's company.

As if being a new parent isn't hard enough!

Being a Moonshadow elf, Rayla is better at managing nighttime stuff. She handles feeding obviously, but tries not to wake Callum when she's changing Sarai or rocking her to sleep.

(It generally doesn't work because Callum has become a super light sleeper as a dad and wakes up no matter how quiet she's being).

Her plan becomes truly moot when her wrist pain flares up, at which point Callum takes over as much of the manual baby care as he can.

As a morning person, Callum is aways happy to take Sarai and let Rayla get a little more sleep. He chats to her as he has breakfast (which she is very interested in and always trying to wrestle from him), then they go for walks after.

He loves telling Sarai about everything he's doing, showing her books and drawings, explaining plans or what he's writing in a school. She babbles back incessantly.

All of which Rayla thinks is adorable.

With Rayla being a more up-close fighter and Callum being ranged and capable of flight, he tends to carry Sarai when they're going on any kind of journey. Baby wearing is how most babies are transported in Xadia, which Callum loves. A lot of humans in Evrkynd adopt the pactice too.
