Mass Surveillance Feeding the AI Beast
I've seen some concern online about Ring Cam's recently advertised "Lost Dog" feature. I can't help but to think that this is part of a campaign to expand the data pool that AI computers have to draw from. Artificial Intelligence becomes more powerful by increasing the amount of information it uses to do the things that it does like creating shitty videos and writing inaccurate articles.
Windows users have experienced a relentless, persistent campaign to upload their personal data to their cloud service, OneDrive. It's true that companies will aggressively promote products for the purpose of increasing sales but the lengths that Microsoft has gone to push this on their customers seems somewhat suspicious. I propose that there is an alternative motive which is to have people upload their hard drives to the internet to increase the amount of data available to AI programs.
Internet users have long been the subject of data brokers who make money by collecting information on people including viruses like ShadyPanda that recorded every activity of users online including just how far scrolled down while reading an article.
This mass surveillance of internet users and now their security systems appears to me to be part of this drive to "feed the AI beast" and increase its power. I'd end by suggesting ways to opt out of the surveillance state but I'm not sure you can. We may be doomed to a future where everything we do whether in public or the privacy of own homes will be used by AI computers to track the population, predict behavior and create stupid AI videos.
